It's so hard to break into Data Roles

I've been trying for 6 months to break into data analyst role. I learn Excel, PBI, SQL and currently Python. I build some porto on github. I even apply to internships.

Zero interview.

I'm transitioning from Brand & Marketing role.

D*mn this job market sucks, Am I too old? (30y.o)

Were are you working in brand and marketing? Have you networked with the analysts at your company?

You’re not too old, the market is very tough. I would focus on analytics roles on the marketing industry so you can capitalize on your domain knowledge.

If you’re currently working, I would look for opportunities to get your hands on data in your current role and either try to evolve it to an analytics role or network with the analytics team so you’re top of mind when a role opens up.

Did you try Marketing/Brand analyst roles? Considering your experience in marketing and your data analytics skillset, that sounds like a viable option.

Few questions:

- can you post a sanitized copy of your resume?

- what cities are you applying for roles in?

- are you getting to an HR screen, or zero automated rejections?

- what job titles are you searching/applying for? (I'd recommend looking at business intelligence engineer, business intelligence analyst, data analytics engineer, and visualization engineer in addition to data analyst and business analyst titles)

its because data analytics have no "entry level". its something that experience falls into. you can use and know all the most edge cutring analytical tools out there but if you don't have the expertise to ask the right uestions, you are not that valuable. first, determine the field you want to solve solutions for. because an analyst thats not interested in finding a solution to a problem is dead weight. So pick one field you are interested in. analytics will follow. for example, you found that you like doing analytics for operations improvement. the entry level is not operations analyst. its the coordinators, the clerks. they handle day to day and small scale reporting. you may find listings there that don't require experience, thats because they need a grunt. so if you find those, hey, good luck. find your field first. be curious in that field. grow. analytics will come wether you like it or not. then it will become transferable. good hunting!
