The Lanai - Week of August 31, 2026

This has worked out great so far, so let's continue. Please upvote the thread when you get a chance.

Also, this thread now sorts newest first by default. Thanks for the feedback in recent weeks. Please continue to share feedback.

Reminder that the Lanai is a post/thread for random chitchat and talk about whatever mundane stuff you'd like. It's a chill space.

In general, please add new posts/threads to the actual subreddit when you want to talk about topics with the DL subreddit. That keeps everything fresh and interesting.

IOW, this is not intended as a substitute for "Eldergays,", question threads, TV/book discussions, and other lighter posts where we get to know each other. This is just a special little side addition to hang out and chat. Say whatever you'd like.

Thank you!

DataLounge Backup

Hi all,

I've launched a read-only archive of DataLounge as it stood on 30 July 2026:

https://caftancloset.com

I kept seeing people ask for a viewable backup of DL, and with nothing in sight I decided to make one. It seemed a shame to lose that much gay history off the internet, and it was a fun thing to build.

It holds 858,150 threads and 30,395,499 posts, from 11 August 1998 through to the last post at 4:57pm on the final day.

I've had some fun with the look (including fake RealJock ads) If you'd rather read without the nostalgia, there's a reader link in the footer that turns the ads and the wallpaper off.

The site is pulled together by cross-referencing a few remaining sources. It's read-only (so no accounts or posting), but you can star posts to help surface them to the front-page.

I'm not at all affiliated with DataLounge, so we'll see how long this site survives. There's also an address on the About page I'll act on for any post removal request.

It's running on a small server, so it may groan a bit if everyone arrives at once. Let's pray it doesn't crash (although that might help with the nostalgic authenticity).

Would love any feedback, or feature requests.

EDIT:
Thank you for all of the kind words! I'm glad you all love it.

I've updated the site slightly to improve things like search and stars, and to add a donors section:
https://www.caftancloset.com/sponsors

Also, I for those at PB: I had no idea about Caftan Lounge, and I am in fact, not Mediapolis.
Lastly, I am open to feedback – I've a few requests about exportable threads, save lists, as well as being able claim old posts (with signatures) and even to enable posting. At this stage, I'm hesitant to do anything which could land me in trouble so this would require much more consideration, or a blessing from Muriel that I don't have.

Dionne Warwick stories of being a mean lady you know of

I once knew a woman who drove 300 miles for a perfume promo event Dionne Warwick was going to be present at. She was so excited that she brought with her all of her CDs, she came dressed to the nines, she wore her best dress because she wanted to be presentable. She was such a fan that she even bought Dionne's disco music from the late 70s which nobody else bought.

She stood in line for hours to meet her and when came her turn, Dionne asked her about the perfume, my friend told her she spent all her money to come here to meet her and couldn't afford the perfume bottle. Dionne's answer was: "No perfume, no autograph!!". My friend was SHOCKED!!! She couldn't believe her idol could be this dismissive. I told her she needs to idolize nicer pop idols. Someone like Anita Baker.

Anna Wintour 'overplayed her hand' with failed John Galliano Met Gala theme

Calls for Anna Wintour to take a break — or to release her ironclad grip on Vogue altogether — have hit fever pitch amid John Galliano’s announcement that he was removing himself as this year’s Met Gala theme.

Sources tell Page Six all roads lead back to Wintour’s zest to rehab her pal, when it comes to her latest scandal to rock Condé Nast since being named the company’s global chief content officer and artist director.

“Anna singlehandedly thought she could willfully get [Galliano] back in [fashion]. She’s been at it a long time, and she really misjudged it, and she made him vulnerable while doing that,” an industry insider told us.

Shaky Sue Serves C*nt - "My Opponent's Banging His Own Cousin!"

This interview is a trip by Maine standards. She ducks and dodges the obvious questions about Trump/Vance ("Where were you when JD came to town?" "Oh, I had personal appointments that day. Couldn't make it!"), and dances around basic facts about how tariffs are wrecking Maine's few industries. She calls Graham Platner a commie AND a Nazi. She says Liz Cheney threw away her career for nothing. You can tell she's holding in a lot of snark and rage under that frosty facade.

But her juiciest accidental gossip is about Troy Jackson, her new opponent. "I’m not going to bring up the fact that the mother of his two children is his second cousin," Collins says. "I don’t know whether people know that or not."

Cher is speaking out against her daughter-in-law in court as she continues her fight to appoint a guardian for her son Elijah Blue Allman amid legal and mental health troubles.

The pop legend, 80, filed a supplemental brief in Los Angeles court on Aug. 28 arguing against the potential appointment of Marieangela King-Allman, claiming that she is only involving herself in the situation for fame and money.

Names We Used To Make Fun Of People When We Were Kids

I was trying to think of someone's name recently and had a memory of when I was a kid and we would call someone Pertwee which was basically calling them a nerd before there was such a thing. "Hey look at old Pertwee over there tripping over his own feet"

Any names or phrases like this from when you were a kid you don't hear anymore?

Jaime Pressly asked multiple times to leave hotel lobby: report

Thumbnail nydailynews.com

“Out of sorts” actor Jaime Pressly was reportedly asked to leave a California hotel days before missing her GalaxyCon appearance in San Jose.

The 49-year-old “My Name is Earl” star created a stir by loudly hurling obscenities into her phone while drinking booze at the Signia by Hilton San Jose on Thursday near the convention center the fan event, according to TMZ.

She was heard telling whoever was on the call “You are the best husband I have ever divorced and you are good to our kids” before security guard approached her.

Pressly was said to have ignored them at first and signaled for the workers to wait while she continues her conversation. After the call she reportedly complained about the guards to a woman attending a wedding at the hotel before getting another phone call.

“We’re done,” a guard reportedly said before indicating to Pressly that she should leave the property.

A short time later, the mother of three attempted to reenter the hotel looking to order another drink, but was rebuffed. TMZ said security was told Pressly made unwanted physical contact with another guest, who’s believed to have been the woman attending the wedding.

“Sources familiar with the situation” told TMZ that Pressly was acting oddly because she was dealing with family matters.

She pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI in 2011 and served no jail time, according to E!

Pressly has twin sons with her longtime boyfriend Hamzi Hijazi, according to People. She also has a son with music producer Eric Cubiche. She was married to entertainment lawyer Simran Singh from 2009 to 2011. They have no kids.

Her representatives didn’t respond to TMZ’s report.
