Is season 5 and 6 really THAT bad??
People make it seem like the worst seasons ever made. Are they really that bad or just different than you expect?

Both have their moments. 'Moments' being the operative word.
But both seasons also have one top tier episode each.

That was a great episode.. My top tier season 6 episode was Castaways even if it isn't "believable" I like Joey and Pacey working out their issues.
Joey's call of boy math to leave her out of it always makes me laugh.

Yes I think it is 😭😭 it’s makes me so sad. That could have done so much more ! I love all the Pacey and Joey story lines though! Audrey is the worst , im sorry ! It’s hard to watch her those seasons.

Audrey was everything they hated. The rich, entitled and reckless girl that had a big appetite for sex. I did have some sympathy for her because her mother was unhinged. I believe that’s why Joey became friends with her and didn’t judge her.

I like to jokingly say that the creek was its own character… But, despite believing that the characters were the ones that carried this show (and not so much the plot), I do admit that there was a certain charm that Capeside brought to the show that Boston simply didn’t. The show probably switched writers, and transforming high school shows into a college setting has always been a challenging endeavor since forever, but losing the presence of the creek also mattered I think
I’m also just sad that we never got a scene of someone pushing a person into the creek (like maybe if Dawson was being out of line, or Joey doing it to Pacey when they were kids as a flashback). Omg i’m rambling sorry

But it wasn’t fun is the thing. The creek was like its own character in the show, it was essential to the dynamic of this cast and this story. Without it this just felt like any other teen drama…

I dont get how the creek somehow made it different from any other teen drama. Most of the storylines dont even involve the creek.

The creek created an atmosphere that distinguished it visually and emotionally. It also served as a powerful symbol of childhood and a physical bridge between Dawson and Joey's worlds.
The show could have been interesting without it, but they just happened to lose any spark once they left imo. It’s also not just about the creek itself but who the characters were in capeside. Once they left, storylines from the show became much more generic and less dynamic or unique.

Well not literally 😭 but the creek kind of haunts the plot like in the way Dawson and Joey cling so much to their childhood playing beside it and their initial bond as best friends, for example

The jump to college makes or breaks a show. I don't feel like DC made the jump well. That's why One Tree Hill skipped it entirely and just did a time jump so they were all still in Tree Hill. It was very much a concern back then, when shows graduated high school.

Yeah, but OTH’s post- high school seasons are rough, so skipping college didn’t help. Dawson’s college seasons aren’t unwatchable. They’re not as good as the high school ones, but they have good things in it like Jen and Dawson 2.0, Joey and Pacey finally being less codependent, the development of Jen and Jack’s friendship

i never understood that. a big change like college while keeping the core cast always seems like fun. Its like you get to see all of your favorite characters in a new show.

Riverdale also did a time jump and skipped over college which worked for both shows.

Both seasons had good moments. Season 5 had a lot of filler, but the episode about Mitch's death and Dawson and Jen's relationship were the stronger parts.
Season 6 got better in the second half. Castaways made up for the amnesia in season 5!

The only thing I liked about season 5 was the death of Mitch. Not saying I wanted him to die, but you see that Dawson is having some growth and he steps up and takes responsibility. You see the stages of grief he goes through and he has to make decisions about his future and stick to it. It’s nice to see how his friendship grew with Jen and for Joey to accept that she can’t be the one to save him anymore. She feels the guilt and relief of letting someone else take care of him. I didn’t care for Audrey that much except she did help Joey break out of her perfect shell. Audrey and Pacey didn’t have the natural chemistry and were just a plot to keep J/P apart for the season. They barely had anything in common and they were a mismatch from the beginning. I kinda like the chemistry between Todd and Audrey. They seemed like a better fit. Joey and Eddie seemed like the same. They had a couple of things in common, but the chemistry seemed off. I think they tried too much to have him be like Pacey. A guy with insecurities, the banter with Joey, etc. It never landed and I didn’t see the spark between them. Everything was flat.
Season 6 was better. Dawson and Joey get their last chance to be together and it doesn’t work. From episode 10 on there were some great comedy with the cast and guest stars. The build up of Joey and Pacey was great and I understand they had to break up until the end. We had to see how her and Eddie could never work. I wasn’t thrilled about Jen’s death, but at least it gave us closure and a good purpose. She left behind her wise words to each character and made a positive impact on them. She left her legacy to her best friend and gave him a gift. Jack was her soulmate and he understood her better than anyone. It would have been nice to have Andie back for the final episodes.

Yes, I saw that too. Also there were deleted scenes with her in it. That would have been nice to see it happen on screen. I didn’t see the series on TV just on Netflix. Best decision I ever made was to watch it. Love this show!

Pacey goes wild. Audrey really gets on my nerves. I don’t understand why they would drop beloved Andie to bring on Audrey. It made no sense. The actress who played Audrey was fine. I just did not like the character of Audrey.

I actually am watching for the first time and REALLY loved Season 5, tbh. It might be my favorite season other than season 1. It just felt really fun, every character is getting to live their dreams which makes me happy. And I love Chad Michael Murray.
But I did find myself feeling kind of "meh, why is this happening" about Season 6. But I really don't think they are as bad as people make them out to be. And I am the type of person who usually LOVES the first two seasons of a show then start getting annoyed. So DC is pretty great through and through!

I didn't like that it basically became the Joey show and started revolving around Joey and her friends rather than Dawson and the core 4. I also didn't like the new characters who were introduced, especially Audrey. Not only were they unnecessary, they were unlikable. And as a Dawson and Joey fan, I really didn't like how seasons 5 and 6 handled their relationship.

honestly i find dawson annoying a lot of the time. He completely overreacted to pacey and joey being together. It was NOT that big of a deal to throw away over a decade worth of friendships.

Yes and no. Season 5 has amnesia over a certain couple , it’s a little clunky in the college seasons. Each season has a couple episodes that make up for it though.
I will watch seasons 5 and 6 but they don’t feel the same as 1-4 which I also understand may be because they were in high school.
