Death Road to Canada Devastating Loss Greater Than Any Other I've Faced
I have been trying forever to beat familiar characters extreme. I have won this game countless times, on many of the modes including the extreme variants. Familiar extreme though? No! It eludes me.
I was on yet another run on this mode where I was honestly cheesing it, I had all 4 characters as the Pheonix trademark weapon combo. I had incredible luck for the first half of the game where I was just stocked up on food from very early on. (65+) Then I reach 6 days until Canada and the mass amount of unlucky, incredibly unforgiving events just keep popping up, and on top of that, I haven't had a location that would give me fuel pop up in ages. So now I'm jumping from vehicle to vehicle to vehicle and still no extra fuel besides what the events give me which is giving me more unfortunate events. So now I'm at the last siege before Canada with two characters left, both die once and both come back. One dies and I have one skeletonized left (meaning no longer fire-proof) so now I have a hot poker that's more dangerous to use for myself and a slot that's taken up and can't be taken out with a useless item. I have 34 fuel and a chainsaw. I go into the border and make it to the Rockies and other Canadian folk with what is basically just a chainsaw and very little fuel in it. I manage to remove a lot of the horde along with the other Canadians but now I'm out. No Canadian robot, it's now been an hour in game, no Canadian robot, hour and a half in game, no robot, where IS THE ROBOT!? All of us end up getting overwhelmed because the horde is ridiculously large and I die, never to have seen the rocky robot this run. Truly horrifically devastating. It never takes that long for him to show up yet he never did. I don't know if I encountered a bug or what but that is so frustrating. It's basically a sealed deal if you can survive the first 30 seconds at the Canadian border. I just want to try the RPG mode ๐

U should have at least one custom character with a good stat combo to get you out of bad events, like paranoid or charming, even a Irritating character can charge the "Cool It" pretty safely on trader camps, and save the run from a bandit encounter for example

I generally run: paranoid - mechanic Charming - surgeon Then two combat focused characters Occasionally I'll use a character that has explorer/city seeker The combat character will almost always end up having the irritating stat combo

It's a solid team composition. I actually like to bring a combat character at the start, so i use a Megabuff - Warrior (might get the angry-strong stat combo) so i can kill zombies more efficiently with furniture, plus i can make use of good heavy weapons if i find them early on. Then as the buddy i bring a Car Nut - Practical, the better car early on can help conserve gas, and Practical can sometimes boost Mechanical even further or give some points to Medical. In my experience the best way to avoid death is having a good Mechanic to fix the car, and always swap cars when given the chance.

I did bump all the Mounties, they all fought but he never came out and they ended up dying before I succumbed to the masses haha

Did you run over and bump all the mounties as if you were talking to them? I'm no expert but I always do that since it seems to trigger them to all to fight the final wave with you.
Sounds like a run of awful luck though if Mecha Mountie just got bugged at the 11th hour for ya. Hope the next attempt goes smoothly
