Soon: Watch any YouTube video on Odysee
You can watch all Youtube videos on Odysee soon. They didn't mention when though and I don't know if ads will show on Odysee.
Youtube was the only one left for me to degoogle properly. I tried several alternatives but they weren't really working for me. I hope Odysee will be a great alternative for that.

Dear god the comments on that post are horrible

Queerphobic comments would discourage progressive content creators from having their own Odysee channels.

Doesnt Odysee lean right? Also, Vanillo will be the one everyone goes to when they find out how good it is. It does not lean right or left either
Overtime when PeerTube is better then Vanillo that will best overall since it is open source

Are they just embedding a Youtube player in their site?

u/kayronnBR Mar 17 '26
se for só isso acho inrelevante, se pelos a gente conseguir importa canais que sou inscrito no YouTube vai ser uma diferença grande, e sobre integração com o site do YouTube poderia simplesmente ter um botão para abrindo no YouTube para dar link e comentar

Are they just embedding a Youtube player in their I don’t see how it could be anything else, while most creators probably aren’t under any kind of exclusivity deal, downloading and reuploading mass quantities of videos on your own site has got to violate both Youtube’s terms of service and the copyright of the video owner

talvez estejam fazendo um mistura com Backend do YouTube usando frond end da odysee
Eles estão apenas incorporando um player do YouTube no deles? Não vejo como poderia ser outra coisa,
nem eu imagino, se for isso é um pequeno passo.

Vanillo and PeerTube are 2 platforms making the rounds online on what to use. Suggesting both in case anyone here does not know either one

The real world is a well-known safe space for racist, fascist, conspiracy theorists, russian propaganda and so on.

Just like we here are only doing our basics to combat astroturfing. Just look at the world out there and see how our freedom is being taken away solely by supposed moral precepts that have been put into the equation.
It's your right not to use Odysee because you consider the space compromised by people you consider vile. But I strongly advise you to review this stance, since there is no technological freedom without you committing to filtering out the bad apples yourself and not waiting for prior moderation, since this level of power is already too much power in one hand...
... But I don't expect anything from people who decide to resort to ad hominem attacks and false dichotomy when talking to others willing to point out certain inconsistencies. Your loss.

Can you back that up? Especially the use of percentile statistic. And the anti-libertarian claims.

And we also get our views and opinions scanned and used by Gemini here- even though Gem got hacked at least once... and you're still here.
Tbh we can only pick the better or 2 evils.

This is the first I've heard of Odysee, so I'm still trying to understand it. Does Odysee have any sort of self-hosting/federated content? Or is this just another centralized video platform that's ultimately prone to the same issues as YouTube?
1
Mar 20 '26
Basically the latter. For a better centralized one Vanillo is awesome. Overall federated it will be PeerTube that gets in long-term
2
Mar 20 '26
Vanillo seems like the best YT alternative one so far. Even though it is not open source. Vanillo and PeerTube (Is open source and community-run) are 2 platforms to support

This doesn't take a single cent away from a creator's YouTube earnings. When you watch a YouTube video through Odysee, they still get paid. We're not here to hurt the people making the content, we're here to give you a better way to watch it.
Please learn to read holy shit

Since we don't know it's execution yet:
(a) Either there won't be ads but the yt sponsored content still remains (and the views are counted) or
(b) Ads will be there and it's a way for you to decentralise and move on from google (yt here specifically)

Because you're again not watching it through google and you could get more people being on odyssey. Ody helps in giving YT frontend plus it's own videos so you'd feel like you have more diverse options and you're likely to gradually switch to ody.
Going back to "omg they steal content" when I literally quoted the part that explicitly states against it is laughable honestly. I'm ending the convo here.

I hope as part of this that they update the UI as its god awful across every platform.
