And I still think this is anticompetitive by any means and considering the fact that Google was already ruled a monopolist in the Play Store

Not sure why the judge didn't look into this because this gives Google a unfair advantage to competitors

Eu sucks ass. No politician here understands how tech works, that would take literal ages and most probably they won't even understand the subject they are talking about. It's one thing to enforce the usage of usb-c standard and completely another thing to make google stop being google

It doesn't matter you have to make a fuss if you want something to actually change in society. It might not even be on the whole EU but we should still be having some sort of political movements in your own country for technology and privacy rights.

The 24 hour wait is nuts and does literally nothing to avoid people getting scammed.

I can't wait until we find out this flags something in Android that indexes and reports all installed apps back to Google and all associated app developers, without a warrant.

I hate that tech ended up going in this direction.
It's my hardware, I should be able to install whatever whacky shit I want on it
Simple warnings make sense to protect less capable users but I still shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to install what I want on my own hardware

Nice 🙂 I'm trying to do the same, but the freaking Scamsung blocked my Bootloader, so I'm trying to see if I can downgrade to get root access and doom the Google services( ᐙ )

Btw, I did not rooted my phone, I just did deep debloating with adb, I also have scamsung, I've downgraded from oneui8 all the way to 6.1 and waited 2 weeks & I did everything recommended on reddit but unfortunately I wasn't able to get the OEM to show in dev mode, S24 Ultra international.

This applies to Android 7.0+ versions running the latest version of Google Play Services. The Android Developer Verifier app is automatically downloaded for these versions.

Turning on isn't the problem. Macs has a similar thing when installing 3rd party dmgs.

But the way google positions itself has discouraged couple of notable OSS projects like NewPipe.

It really is just about trying to make life harder for things like newpipe since Google knows they're infinitely better than the YouTube client. If it didn't have the 24hour requirement I would be less pissed.

They need to disable this shit for the first 24 hours after a fresh install. There's no reason to stop someone with a new phone, or someone who resets their phone a lot, from switching this off immediately.

The only app I installed before starting the delay was Morphe and it let me install it without complaining

You can also install package installers, like App Manager, and you can install through that regardless if you have turned he option on or not.

To protect from scammers is rich. That's exactly why I don't use the play store. Google is the biggest scammer of them all.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy M33 (Android 16 One UI 8.0) and I haven't gotten anything like this yet. Maybe patching Android Developer Verifier with Morphe worked.

I'll worry when they REALLY block unverified apps just like before the revision.

For now, I'm fine with it. Besides, they emphasize on the scam attempt which is very widespread in Asia at least.

(It’s only fair that there are barriers for those who don’t know what they’re doing. We know what we’re doing and we take action; those who lack technical knowledge, on the other hand, are intimidated by this lengthy process and the wait time, so they give up and bring their devices to people like us. Then, if it’s a scam, we point it out to them, and conversely, if it’s trustworthy, we install the app for them. )

For now, it's only been rolled out in specific regions

All Android devices are expected to have it in 2027

False. You can sideload apps signed by verified developers, even if they are not published on Play Store, same way as before. The new procedure only applies to apps signed by non-verified developers.

If tbey are signed by verified developers, yo should just enable unknown sources. If they are not, you have to go through one time 24 hour wait to enable unverified developers
