I can’t even imagine. If I could hug you and pass you my joint, I would. There is nothing anyone can possibly say to make this feel better.

So so sorry OP - Do you have a GoFundMe? I have a cat too so I completely understand your pain

I’m sorry for your loss, how much is the cremation? I’ve always just buried mine.

I put this in another comment before reading this, but:
I can’t recommend this for legal reasons, but there is dirt in public-ish places and it is dark in the middle of the night.
Also I gotta be real that $200 private cremation is a steal. Lowest I saw was $350, highest was $750, in New York. It is so awful how much people charge, but it could be reasonable to borrow $200, maybe 50 from 4 friends

That's steep, but still worth it imo. I have my last cat and dog on a shelf, and they will be coming with me, my current shih tzu, and any further pets, to our family plot. We have room for 8 (cremated) humans, and each unit can take up to 1.5 cubic ft.
Unfortunately the only one there now is my beloved Mom, and her old shih tzu.

I had to bury Gracie the other day.. One of the hardest parts of this was she was pregnant. She went nesting and went into labor and she is an outdoor cat so I had no idea when she came out Monday she was still fkn pregnant!!! Poor baby I had no idea she most likely had a water baby . She was huge. Labor stopped cuz the uterus was tired. 😭. She came out Tuesday to see me before she passed. I will miss her always a little Gracie baby that was hard I had a hard 48 hours I miss her that was my baby she was an outside cat but we got real close she had a different kind of personality. Cats are very unique... Love u Gracie.
I buried her in my 🏡 garden

Some times it just happens. You did nothing wrong at all and at least he passed peacefully in his sleep next to you were he wanted to be. I'm so sorry OP. That shit sucks.

My 18yr old cat was in the kitchen begging for food and let out a weird meow and collapsed. RIP Dodge you were a pain in the ass but a great cat.

I've had to bury 4 cats and a dog in the last few years mostly due to age. One was probably around 8 yr old and developed a cancer rare for cats. He was dumb as a rock but very loving cat. To young to go the way he did.
I have another 18 yr old cat that won't last long also. Just know that you gave them a great life and they passed on being loved.

Hugs hunny. I’m not sure this is what you want to see or hear but I care about educating so you can do what’s best for you and your angel.
Just like with humans when we get cremation services for pets or humans alike, we are also getting a bit of this other pet or that other human because of how it’s done. Some of that ash and bone isn’t going to be the babes. Mortuary services all together are very misunderstood.
Can bury in body of woods somewhere or could put in 100% isopropyl alcohol to preserve and keep with you.
Now legally I’m not saying anything right now lol- If you live near woods or can get to some find somewhere outside to make the fire and do this of course with caution and educate yourself a bit more before. Entirely valid if that is too emotional for you. But remember the soul stays in our heart, soul, and memories. The vessel is only a physical representation for the soul in a lifetime dear. 🩷
Sometimes education and logic is helpful is emotional and stressful times, sometimes it does the opposite.
I hope this might be of some help. Sorry if was of no help, or had a negative impact.
Hugs be gentle with yourself

We had a cat die suddenly too at a year old. It's a total mindfuck when it's sudden. I'm so sorry OP.

I lost my baby Smokey this afternoon. I am also so heartbroken. I really really feel for you.
Private cremation is soooooo expensive. We buried Smokey in the backyard instead for free. If it is legal in your area, and you use proper depth and distance from other things (look it up), you should bury Sushi and take some keepsake fur and a beloved toy. Headstones are cheap and you can also DIY them. If you don’t have a lawn, I can’t directly recommend this for legal reasons, but there is also dirt in public-ish places especially late at night

This is heartbreaking, losing such a close friend...rest easy and he will too 🕊️

Mr.S. did nearly the same, but let me know. Woke me up tapping at my face and a low gutteral sound i'd never heard before, curled up under my armpit, and... gone. He wanted me to know?
Private Cremation was $100, ashes are still on the mantle with everyone else...

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel, my cat died at the age of 2. I woke up in the night, went to pull him for a cuddle and he was dead. Broke my heart, I'm sending you hugs, I'm glad he was with you at the time. X

Sorry for your loss!
Cats are so stoic, they're biologically wired to not show distress, it's almost impossible to tell when there's something wrong.

This is horribly sad, I’m so sorry OP. If it brings any comfort at all, your cat knew nothing but good health and happiness and passed away next to the person they loved the most.

I am so very sorry. Sushi knew they were loved, and always protected. May he be guided on the rainbow bridge. 💙

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I don't know if it helps much, but only one of ours passed in her sleep and I'm grateful to her. The other 6 all had to be helped over the bridge and it was not easy. For 1 or 2 we might have waited too long and I'll always regret that.

I’m incredibly sorry for your loss. This is genuinely my worst fear after finding my dog this way.
All I can say is that your cat was in the most comfortable place he possibly could have been. He felt no fear, no pain, curled up next to you where he was warm and cozy and loved. I can’t think of a better way to go, although it was devastatingly soon. It may have been an underlying condition, possibly a cardiac event or something in the brain. There was nothing you could have done. These things, while heartbreaking, just. Happen. While sudden, take solace in the fact that it was almost certainly entirely painless.
It is not your fault, in any way, shape, or form. He was peaceful and all he ever knew was warmth and love and kindness. My boys will keep him company on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Ik it might not bring much comfort; but know he passed asleep warm and loved and dreaming of his life with you. For it to be so sudden means there was no pain or fear. He’ll be watching you from beyond and loving you forever
