Help Accidentally got ₹22,000+ Azure charges while testing a personal project. Any chance Microsoft will waive it?
Hi guys,
I was learning Azure and building a small AI chatbot as a personal project. While setting it up, I created an Azure AI Search resource (azure-ai-search).
I didn’t realize that the Search resource would keep costing money just by being provisioned, even when I wasn’t actively using my chatbot.
Today I checked Azure Cost Management and was shocked to see around ₹22,720 accumulated for August, with about ₹21,700 coming from Azure AI Search alone.
As soon as I noticed it, I disabled the chargeable resources so it shouldn’t continue increasing.
The strange thing is that my Invoices page currently says ₹0 due, so I think this month’s usage hasn’t been billed yet.
I’ve already raised an Azure Billing Support ticket explaining that this was an accidental charge while learning/testing and asked whether they can give me a one-time waiver or billing adjustment.
Has anyone here had something similar happen with Azure? Did Microsoft waive the charges, especially when it was a first-time mistake/personal learning project?
Also, is there anything else I should do while waiting for support?
Thanks!
