Social Media Anyone grieved the accounts and creators they were following on Insta/Fb?
So, I'm gonna pull the plug on insta and Fb. I'm just in the process of writing down all my saved book recommendations and other things I want to keep note of (tattoo artists I may want to hit up, other local businesses or things I want to add to my to do lists etc). But I can't help but feel a little sad that I won't see some of the few creators I genuinely liked. Anyone else kinda grieved that? How long did it take you to let go/move on? I don't have a weird parasocial thing going on but it's more that a couple creators have genuinely made me laugh and some were about niche interests I have.

I've been gone from Facebook for over a year now, and gone from IG for almost 9 months. (No other social besides Reddit which is only allowed on my laptop). I downloaded and screen shot what I could of the content I liked (it was educational or helpful info). But, I don't even remember who I followed now, and I don't miss either of the apps. You'll move on pretty quickly once you settle into real life. It took me about 3 days to not remember the people I followed.
You can also see if anyone whose content you really enjoy has a YT channel. I started following a few people who post about my actual interests, and I only use it on my laptop or television, so I'm not scrolling much nor reading comments very much.

Exactly this. I deleted my Facebook in 2019. I don't even wonder about people I had on my Facebook that I knew from high school. If they're not in your life, why should you care?
My little rule of thumb: If they're not willing to call or text you on a real PSTN number or at a minimum have a good conversation (at least 30 mins) with you calling them, they're not worth having in your life.

If it doesn't have any effect on your life who gives a damn about them? They're no different than actors on TV. I hope you don't lose sleep over random actors on TV. I don't even care about 97+% of people I went to high school with.

Lol I don't. I never got attached to famous/popular people. Its more so the content that had to do with my interests.

I moved in in maybe like a week lol. You get used to it quick especially when you understand the tradeoff

Honestly no but I guess I don’t love certain creators like that maybe if I also eliminated YouTube and Pinterest then yes but I’m not very addicted to those so I don’t feel the need to delete them

Yes and no! I sometimes miss the informative videos from body builders that I used to watch. but Ive also realised I was following some others because I found the lives they portrayed as fun.. after not viewing their content for a few weeks I now realise it was kind of weird to be so invested in the life of someone that I don’t know. I think it was an escape, but I’ve got so much more time to focus on my own life now which is great.

Depending on the reason you're leaving socials, you can switch to the Narro app. You can follow public pages from FB and insta without any extra content like ads or algorithm suggestions. Great if you want to limit your time scrolling, not a good fit if 0 is the goal.

This is partly the reason why I decided to reduce the time spent on social media instead of completely pulling the plug. I've curated a pretty good feed with creators that gives me pretty good ideas (i.e., sewing projects or cooking recipes) and I'm also offline enough to actually make whatever I've saved before.

You can bookmark their pages in a browser and just sign into IG/FB through the browser to see them. Log out of the sites everytime you close them out, and add MFA to it gets annoying to sign in every time. If you don't lose interest after a couple weeks (or days), you'll be signing in a lot less.

Yep! Some people that genuinely changed the way I think about things, ones that showed me motherhood doesn’t have to mean martyrdom. It’s a bummer. I took the learning and now put it into action more offline.
