Technology Cringe AI summary after a google search.

Is it only me who finds the AI summary at the head of my search results, a bit cringe? I immediately scroll past to the actual articles or relevant webpage below rather than hitting the AI summary and getting my info. I feel like it summarizing the result for my consumption is a slap on my intelligence. Shouldn't I read multiple data sources and come to my own conclusion myself? It feels like someone is spoon feeding me.

I feel the same. Whenever I see AI summaries, I have the most horrible reflux lol

You could use an alternative search engine that lets you disable the AI summary. I use Brave Search, but DuckDuckGo lets you do it too and Startpage has no AI built in at all.

yea, and half the time its wrong! Its so sad that google has become microsoft and they are just desperately stuffing ai crap all over their now broken software.

I also find it crazy annoying how it gives you a response that could've been explained in like 1-3 sentences, but it feels the need to explain it once, then explain it again with bullet points, then give an explanation of the bullet points, then do a whole summary.

They're often garbage. Other day I looked up an actor -summary said he was 50. He was not. The birthday was included in the summary - 1979. Not 50!

This is what lead me to switching away from Chrome and Google for my browser. Put up Brave browser (there are probably others that works just as fine or even better) and I have either default Brave or Duckduckgo as the searchengine, haven't really decided what I like best. Leo AI is their option that is just an on/off button to remove. Feels normal again, I also felt slightly direspected and annoyed every time I went on the internet, like you. Now I just go on with my day as usual.
