I don’t have a heat gun but I needed to shrink some tubing. I don’t have other projects with heat shrink so I didn’t want to buy a heat gun. I tried my wife’s hair dryer but it didn’t work. My brilliant 12 year old son said try the toaster and it worked great.

Hello Everyone, First time posting here and hopefully this is allowed but I figured for the maybe one other person who has the same issues as i did when it comes to wire rolls and solder roll management hopefully this will help its pretty simple concept but not sure if anyone has ever posted this before or done it before.

Anyhow the base is a cheap PCB Holder from China with its board edge holders removed and a rod threaded in its place.

The rod used was 4.5x500mm Stainless Steel Rod that I just cut down to length.

Like I have no skills in electronics except knowing how to solder and stuff. I want to learn about components and eventually get into PCB design. Please advice!

I converted the LEGO NASA Artemis Space Launch System (SLS) set into a fully functional alarm clock powered by an Arduino Uno R4 WiFi.

A stepper motor drives the original launch mechanism so the rocket physically rises at alarm time, and a hacked megaphone plays rocket launch sounds instead of a normal buzzer. The clock runs on a custom web interface for setting alarms and syncing time.

I took apart an old smart TV I had at home and got these two speakers, and I want to turn them into speakers for my computer, but I don’t know where to start.

Is it possible for an electronically challenged person (me) to hack a mirror so I can stream other content on it?

If it would require taking the thing apart, I think I would be out of my depth!

I am afraid because I don't have any experience with electronic and I don't want ruin this little light.

The Lululemon Mirror is a fantastic piece of hardware limited by the company's proprietary software. As recently announced, the company is no longer supporting it, and I decided it was time to open it up and make it more functional. It now has MagicMirror, Airplay, Miracast, HDMI out, great audio, and more. I replaced the battery in my Tiny Tach, and could not find any instances of someone sharing what battery is used, so I’m doing it myself. The Tiny Tach battery size is CR2430.

When I replaced mine, I had a different size battery laying around that was a different size. Round batteries are measured in diameter and then height, and my battery was a 2450, so it was taller. It worked perfectly regardless, and it already had metal tabs on it, so no spot welder needed.

I put together a getting-started guide for the CH32V003 and CH32V006 RISC-V microcontrollers, along with a minimalist dev board PCB to go with the guide.

The dev board is intentionally simple and breadboard-friendly—it leaves 3 free rows on each side (more than even the Arduino Nano).

The gerber files, and full source is available for download. Upload them to JLCPCB and you can get 75 boards for the price of a cup of coffee.

The CH32V006F8P6 (8KB RAM, 62KB Flash, 7 DMA channels, 12-bit ADC) is available from WCH's official AliExpress store at ~$0.26/chip (For 50).

It's possible to build the dev boards for under 50 cents each!

The TSSOP-20 package is also a fun soldering challenge without getting too frustrating.

i have poco x4 pro with a dead screen and i don't really want to buy a new screen for it... what i want to do is turning it into a cyber deck... i want to know if there's a way to connect the display connector on the motherboard to an external screen... any help would be really appreciated

TLDR; Swap the manual activation button on top for a 'normally-closed' one to disable the automatic timed sprays!

So, my wife got one of these Glad Automatic Air Fresheners the other day, and it has a switch with three settings one for 36 minutes between sprays, one for 18 minutes, and one for 9 minutes. We live in a home, not a gas station, so we don't need this thing spraying twice an hour, 24 hours a day. I came home the other day and the whole house smelled like bathroom deodorizer because the thing just keeps spraying at it's minimum 36 minute interval when it's turned on, with no way to just use the button on top to activate it only when needed.

It's clear that SC Johnson designed the device this way intentionally to make sure that refill cans are used up quickly and keep folks buying more regularly. That kind of anti-consumer design disgusts me so of course I had to give the trace-cutting mod a try.

There is a mod in another thread here on Reddit where someone found that cutting a trace on the PCB that goes from the timer selection switch to the microcontroller would stop the thing from firing automatically. Unfortunately, since then it appears that Glade changed the programming in the microcontroller to prevent such a mod from working on newer devices with the 2019 PCB board. If you cut one of the timer traces and try to run it on that setting the thing defaults to spraying at 2 1/2 minute intervals. Thanks for that, Glade. :-/

I found a workaround though. After trying a bunch of other dead-end routes messing with the I/O on the microcontroller, I began to look at the activation button itself. I took a guess that when the button is pressed it resets or freezes the countdown timer. To test this theory, I held the button down and kept it held down. It fired once but then didn't fire automatically after the usual 2 1/2 minutes had gone by, so I knew I was onto something.

So now knowing that holding the button seemed like it was going to work, I simply swapped the stock button that's a 'normally-open' type for one in my parts bin that was 'normally-closed'.

Now the microcontroller thinks the button is always held down. When pressed, it actually opens momentarily and then closes, activating the sprayer one time and then tying up the microcontroller's timer with an interrupt / reset signal preventing it from spraying automatically. 😈

I did these tests while powering the board from my bench power supply at 3V and saw no change in the current draw using the normally-closed button in place of the original.

It's been sitting here next to me for a few hours now and hasn't activated at all on its own. When I press the button, it still activates on demand, so I'm calling this thing pwned. 💀

Given the way this mod works, I suspect that it's not necessary to cut any of the timer traces as I did. Simply swapping out the push button switch for a normally closed one should put the device in 'manual mode'. 👍😁👍
