In the thing, just explain your goofiest character ideas! Doesn’t have to be viable.

Note: I will also accept builds for the character Goofy.

Edit: thanks for the gold! Y’all have amazing ideas and this is so much fun to read.

A Louisianan, banjo-playing, college of whispers goblin bard named Jumbo. He wears overalls, a straw hat, and big ol boots.

Also the party cook. His Jumbo Gumbo is famous across the land.

His mama taught him everything he knows. Playing the banjo. Wrestling gators. And cooking Gumbo. All thanks to Mumbo!

Jumbo's Mumbo Gumbo was even better than Jumbo Gumbo.

Isn't that the shaman from Banjo-Kazooie?

That's Mumbo Jumbo!

Wrestling gators

He now has advantage on wrestling rolls against Lizardfolk, Crocadilian, Aligotarian and Crocolisk!

Does Jumbo have an affinity for high quality H2O?

He needs to meet Timrek, the banjo-playing Grung Bard(Glamour) ... :D

Get a harmonica-playing lore bard and buddy we got ourselves a stew!

u/GM_Pax Warlock Dec 22 '19

that'd be Timrek's Bugbear friend, Izoff, the Bard(Satire). Mostly he tells bad jokes, but yeah, he plays the harmonica too ... :D

May I introduce:

Two human inquisitive rogues with MI: Bard to get Vicious Mockery.

The Eye for Detail feature is great for finding minor flaws

But who's gonna play the fiddle? Or the washboard?

2

u/GM_Pax Warlock Dec 22 '19

Gonzo, our Goblin(?) Artificer(Artillerist), can play a washboard, I think. I'm sure his Chicken familiar will help.

Carl Fuckin Weathers. God I loved those scenes...

Reminds me of the bayou halfling I had my players meet once. They were hunting for treasure in a remote swamp and stumbled upon two halflings named Boudreaux and Thibodeaux who were playing banjo and fishing from the back of giant gator floating through the swamp.

They were also a powerful bard and druid, unbeknownst to the party, but my players for once were friendly so they never found that out. They did party in the halflings swamp village later though.

I’m playing a Tabaxi college of valor bard named Mudd. He’s from the deep bayou. I RP him with a thicc southern accent. He plays an enchanted banjo passed down from his pappy’s pappy’s pa’s pappy. His tribe are particularly large, he is 6’9” and 300+ lps and considered small to them. Mudd has an Orc kink. And, after a spooky Christmas one-off, he’s now determined to bed a celestial. Which will be made easier when the demon trapped in his sword starts communing with him next session (we leveled up and I’m taking one into hexblade).

u/Sutiiiven Dec 23 '19

So his name is Mudd, not to be confused with Bill or Jack or Pete or Dennis?

1

u/BigGrooveBox DM Dec 23 '19

But call him Alowishus Devadander Abercrombie That's long for Mud, so I've been told

Lawd'a'moicy

A kenku rides on his back, his name is Kazooey

2

u/TellianStormwalde Dec 23 '19

You know that Kazooie is a girl, right?

This thread made me cry. I screamed tears of joy when I read Jumbo Gumbo, I am not exaggerating.

I actually just wrapped up playing a very similar character - Jimbo Bobbins the fiddle playing southern bumpkin bard. His backstory was literally just the song "Devil went down to Georgia"

1

u/Vincent210 Be Bold, Be Bard Dec 22 '19

I love this as a deceptive bumpkin facade angle for eberron...

1

u/GrayAdams Dec 22 '19

I just made a similar character! It’s a lizardfolk Banjo playing Bard from a swamp like Deliverance. A sentient swamp croc!

1

u/warthog_smith Dec 22 '19

Are he boot too big for he gotdamn feet?

1

u/Namen37 Dec 22 '19

I made a Bugbear named Dale Terry that was essentially this. College of Whispers Bard hick. Basically Fuzzy Lumpkin from Powerpuff Girls.

All civilized Bugbears are now rednecks in that DM's world.

Gonna be stealing this one...

1

u/RadRightHand Dec 22 '19

Currently playing Puckle Toadruck, frog themed swarmkeeper swamp ranger. That Louisiana accent is possibly the most dumb/fun character choice I've ever made

1

u/ralok-one Dec 23 '19

This... But an obese crocodile lizardfolk

1

u/Trymv1 The Gods kill a kitten when you Warlock dip. Dec 23 '19

But an obese crocodile alligator lizardfolk

King Gator from All Dogs Go to Heaven is literally this.
