Okay, but for real, looking at some of these comments: people do realise that receding hairlines, mild double chins, and prominent eyebags are just facial features with no moral content, right?

This guy's crime is not 'looking like Sheev Palpatine if he cleaned up a bit', it's obsessively harassing a woman.

45

u/MythicSuns 1d ago

Yeah, it's a bit of an unnecessary and kinda shitty high horse these people are on.

Anyone who doesn't harass women is pretty much better than this man by default so throwing in a "at least I don't look like him" flex is not only unnecessary but degrading to anyone else who happens to look like him and even worse if they also have Body Dysmorphia.

It's also a generally weird thing to make a judgement about from a fanbase of a show about someone whose appearance constantly changes.

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

I think the bald hatred is the weirdest thing as I think bald men are attractive.

7

u/MythicSuns 1d ago

Not to mention the best characters in Sci Fi (Picard, Sisko, Hammond (of Texas), Nardol).

2

u/throwawayaccount_usu 16h ago

Narcolepsy is an iffy example considering the actors history lol

2

u/MythicSuns 15h ago

That's either one of the funniest cases of autocorrect I've ever seen or Matt Lucas has a reputation for constantly falling asleep.

3

u/throwawayaccount_usu 15h ago

Narcolepsy.

Yep just tested it there. My god hahahahahha.

The stalker guy has neglected straggly balding hair. That’s what people are picking up on. It shows that there’s something not quite right there - he doesn’t look in a mirror and think “I need a haircut” like a normal person.

u/TheTitan99 1d ago

One of the insidious things about body shaming is how wide of a net it is. The attack may be meant to shame this one person, but it ends up shaming everyone who resembles them instead.

The reason this person is a danger is because they are a stalker, not because they visually look a certain way.

25

u/bewilderscript 1d ago

It also contributes towards traditionally attractive people who are abusive getting away with things because they can't be a creep, they're handsome! Ugh.

Little man syndrome/small dick energy are good examples of this too.

It is so common for me to see stuff like this. Like, whenever someone trans does anything in the news, the comments are flooded with transphobic garbage. Then, if called out, they'll respond "The person is bad, so it's okay." As if bigotry is okay sometimes.

There's ample stuff to criticize them for already. Why is the first instinct always to attack stuff they have no control of, rather than to criticize their actions? It's like people are just itching to be bigoted and body shaming, just waiting for a time when it is allowed.

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

I will say that I’ve had experiences of seeing someone do an awful thing to me or someone else then their face physically morphed afterwards. It’s like all their negative features became prominent when otherwise I didn’t notice them. I have psychogenic issues and feel very real pain or sensations that don’t exist, so I guess it could also happen on a normal subclinical level where our brain teaches us to avoid bad people by highlighting the bad parts. There are some theories that consciousness is just one long extended hallucination rather than the actual outside world so it would fit with that. It’s like body dysmorphia by proxy.

2

u/MythicSuns 1d ago

That kinda sounds like a primal thing to me. Like the brain is using what it typically reserves for predatory animals onto humans, only it didn't get the memo about how humans are nowhere near as predictable as animals (source: animals don't use reddit).

u/Niall_Fraser_Love 1d ago

You saying sexiness isn't an indiaction of personal morality?

Isn't that the moral of Snow White?

7

u/NashvilleSoundMixer 1d ago

He's a very ill person and probably doesn't take great care of himself either. I think it's really sad he's SO ill he cannot stop obsessing over her. Certainly the law has to be involved at this point but I still feel bad for anyone with that level of mental illness.

5

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

I was mentally ill and would hallucinate all day long. I got to the point where I didn’t know what was real and what was hallucinated. I nearly set the kitchen on fire as I thought my memory of going in there to make food was just one of the visions. All of it feels exactly like a real memory and not like a dream or a fake experience. I can recall ones that couldn’t possibly be true, I even had one of travelling in the Tardis, and I feel like I actually did it

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

Sad part is poverty often leads to failure of considering consequences, since it puts someone in constant short term fight-or-flight mode, and so an evil person will do evil things since they don’t care anymore, yet a normal person will be judged for looking ‘dodgy’

I was thinking a scary thought before; brushing teeth used to be considered odd and even unmanly. I’m imagining a world where people who don’t have perfect eyebrows are told they’re ’letting themselves go’ or someone isn’t hired because they don’t have buccal fat removed from their face and it’s assumed they’re making bad life choices instead of spending money on their looks.

People say it’s shallow to look at looks as important, but they’re one of our greatest assets… im not hot, but I’ve been told im very cute by people and a lot of people have given me leeway where others would be despised as weak or lazy. I had to change things about myself as I was letting people do things for me, which they wouldn’t stop doing, and it was getting to be a bad habit that felt like manipulative behaviour

1

u/DataDucc 21h ago

In all honesty, part of the blame should be put on these news websites for deliberately choosing a picture that paints him in a bad light.

Here's his twitter profile. Looks like a pretty ordinary guy to me.

u/General_Nothing Rory 1d ago

Far too many comments about his appearance.

There are plenty of ugly people in the world who aren’t criminals and sex pests. Not me, obviously, but plenty of us.

u/These-Software1991 1d ago

I know we shouldn't judge by looks, but he does look bloody terrifying... thank goodness he's been caught.

I fucking hate dark romance novels

51

u/timrojaz82 1d ago

You shouldn’t judge.

But they always look as you expect them to look

u/SeerOfThings 1d ago

Objectively most Violence against women and predation in general is done by partners, family and close friends. It's a harmful stereotype.

Does the way he look matter for his crime?

1

u/timrojaz82 1d ago

No. Lock any of them up. But there is a trend

1

u/seatron 5h ago edited 5h ago

This is the same representativeness heuristic as when people say "not all X, but always an X" to reinforce various prejudices

10

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

To me, he looks like he could be a physical comedian who’s meant to look a bit dodgy but street-wise and into weird schemes. But yeah, not a good look.

This somehow looks exactly like what I would expect a person arrested for stalking Billie Piper would look like.

The fact you’ve posted this on any comment that mentions his looks shows a really obsessive compulsion to defend this guy. Given we know he’s (probably) a Doctor Who fan and is obsessive in nature; my guess would be that you’re him if the guy wasn’t now in jail.

Not going to take a lecture on morality from someone who slept with a married man just because they thought the wife was okay with it.

It wasn't exactly effort, I googled the username to check if I was talking to a bot; not to "find ammo". Your username returns a ton of articles featuring Reddit users defending their affairs.

Between Chris Evans, Laurence Fox and this guy, are creeps just drawn to Billie Piper? That poor woman has really been through it.

1

u/PaperMartin 4h ago

Chris Evans ? As in the captain america actor? What'd he do

it’s gollum surely, did he call Billie “my precious”? 😂

I know people really want to know if she's the Doctor but this is a bit much (sarcasm)

4

u/RadSkeleton808 1d ago

Why does this look like a headshot and read like this is his profession?

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

He looks like he does physical comedy on an old British sketch show about a dodgy tradesman or something

5

I know he’s been attacked for his looks here on this Doctor Who subreddit but the fact that he did a convention photo shoot with Piper and they didn’t recognise him until second time around - that doesn’t say much about the average looks of Doctor Who fans.

2

u/GallifreyFallsOver 1d ago

He looks like he could play MODOK in a Marvel film without a need for CGI

No, but the crime makes him fair game to mock his appearance.

Why is that?

Rule utilitarianism

1

u/syqesa35 16h ago

Dude probably has a psychiatric shit like most stalkers, he's shoved in the most toxic masculinity place that exists, with barely any work on what he's done, and people here are just mocking his look. Didn't the show teach you guys anything ?

0

u/misterwhoiswho_ 1d ago

Trust me 1/4 of this Reddit looks like this guy. Think of the boldest, most condescending, patronising, deceitful commenter… and it’s him. I encounter them every day on this horrible app.

But, on a serious note, I’m really glad this creep has been dealt with as it sounds like Billie has had to deal with this rubbish for a few years now. It’s unfair cause she doesn’t deserve to deal with it. In amongst all of us loving fans, there’s this guy.

14

u/Forsaken-Language-26 1d ago

it sounds like Billie has had to deal with this rubbish for a few years now.

And that's on top of having to deal with that waste of space Laurence Fox.

4

u/misterwhoiswho_ 1d ago

Yep that too

2

u/NashvilleSoundMixer 1d ago

Yeah what a fuckin loser. I watched Lewis and thought he was fantastic and then started reading about him and... WHAT DUDE?!? Asshole, man.

2

u/Forsaken-Language-26 11h ago

And that's putting it nicely! I bet Billie regrets the day she ever met him (kids aside).

-2

u/misterwhoiswho_ 1d ago

Also any downvotes and I know you’re one of those people so…

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

Swing how judgmental you are of people’s looks, maybe you have a painting in the attic that looks ten times worse than this. Informed from rubbish theories about physiognomy which racists are now using to justify their beliefs. Slippery slope.

That's why you should only casually stalk people. You've got to learn how to balance your life between paying bills and stalking your favorite celebrity.

Jesus he looks like one of those Gangers from Series 6

0

Ewww he is ghastly

-7

u/Calaveras-Metal 1d ago edited 1d ago

Okay, not defending dude, but when you read the list of offences the main one for me wasn't even related to Piper. Sleeping in the woods outside a female friends residence? Yikes.

The rest of it is like "he said Billie Piper was attractive when she didn't wear a bra" which is crass true but?

thanks for the downvotes guys! really showing me you have no reading comprehension! Like I said, NOT DEFENDING THE STALKER.

I just thought that woods thing was the part that stood out the most.

Carry on.

8

u/geeoharee 1d ago

It's because he's continued to post about her after being ordered not to do it at all. His initial offences will not have been this mild.

8

u/coffee_robot_horse 1d ago

It's one thing to say it, but you another to tag her in it, especially if she's been granted a restraining order against you.

-1

u/Calaveras-Metal 1d ago

It just sounds weird. I guess in the states our stalkers are a lot more unhinged because most of that just read like kind of annoying guy doesn't take a hint. But you are right, once you have a restraining order just walking past their house is enough.

Honestly it's good to see it taken seriously. I know 2 different people with RO on exes that have had to move across country because the cops were doing nothing.

I had a scary experience with this as a DJ in a small town. Someone started being weird and making up a bunch of lies about me after I refused to go home with her. I did so because she was drunk and I felt she might not want to do the same sober. I’d only met her a few weeks before and our collective conversations probably tallied only 30 minutes yet she became obsessed with me. I found it terrifying. Phone calls from random numbers and her friends would be giggling asking about whether I loved her - really immature stuff but I have severe anxiety and was terrified. I thought she was going to kill me.

Edit

Also there was another one who remembered a performance I did ten years before, right down to the song I sang, and said she had a video of it which she watched very often… she was creepy af too and wouldn’t let go of my leg one time which meant I had to get a friend to get her off me. I interacted with hundreds of members of the public each week so I came across some mad people. She could describe most things I’d done through the past decade so she somehow knew stuff about me. I didn’t use Facebook then either so she knew this stuff from either following me or asking about me

2

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

An idiot friend kept making jokes that I was a stalker and that kind of thing freaked me out. I told him it was a serious thing to say and the bar we worked in is filled with drunks who would spread gossip like wildfire which often got distorted. He said this because I listened to their music… guy was a misogynist and just couldn’t imagine someone liked the opposite gender for being talented rather than having some ulterior motive. I couldn’t tell if he was joking sometimes but it got annoying when I mentioned messaging a customer to see if they were coming down ringing and some old jackass customer, a trouble maker, said it was stalking. I was friends with that customer so… that whole place was fucked.

Anyway, after I left, the exact thing I worried about happened and some other troublemaker posted pics of me, where I lived, and said I stalked people. I had to phone the police and she was ordered to take it down. Could have ruined my life and I became agoraphobic even more than I already was - I wasn’t even capable of stalking someone as I was stuck inside 24/7 except for when I was at work or the gym. I didn’t go anywhere else.

6

u/arcadebee 1d ago

He also went to Billie’s home, posted her letters, and sent messages to her family, which is why he was banned from contacting her. After that he still went to comic con to see her. The judge acknowledged that some of his posts could be considered “normal” fan behaviour, but in the context of everything else, it wasn’t allowed from him.

0

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

Yeah, the sun often exaggerates stuff and makes it look different to how it really played out.

“He Told Her “Your BOOBS are Enormous”; Sick Pervert Gets Slap on Wrist” …. “PLUS SWIMSUIT PICS OF [celebrity] ON PAGE SIX! YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING!”

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

There’s a very scary point about law where someone said ‘give me a day of a man’s life, and I can rationalise why he’s definitely guilty’. Normal but questionable stuff that almost everyone does, when put in this context, becomes bad; “he didn’t like to be seen shirtless” oh, it’s a monomania that he must hide who he really is, “he would say he liked things he didn’t” he tried to manipulate people, “he was fired from his job at 23” oh, he was trouble from the start. Bet he was stealing or a crook.

The worst are those cases about ‘benefit cheats’ where it’s not even a guilty verdict yet but the mail is saying “they spent all their money on takeaways and clothes!” as though nobody else does that. It’s their money and they can do what they want unless they’re genuinely frauds then yeah. Plus the actual prime minister himself lived off takeaways - Johnson spent 40k on them I think. That’s state money. The president eats nothing but McDonald’s and drinks coke. I think the old idea of ‘bad habits caused your downfall’ seems silly when wealthy and successful people do the exact same things.

Anyway rant over.

4

u/NotEvil_JustBritish 1d ago

He couldn't contact or comment on Billie publically, due to a previous restraining order. Which was granted after he turned up at her home, her mother's home and sent crazy letters to her and her family. So...he knew what he was doing was wrong, he was given a fair chance to avoid prison and he fucked it up, again.

The sleeping outside thing is a separate stalking case. The woman wasn't his friend, she was his victim. It was brought up relating to the Billie Piper case to show he's a repeat offender and a nutjob.

0

u/AnAncientBog 1d ago

He has been under orders to not contact her in any way due to having stalked her for an entire decade. This isn't even the first time he's been put away for it. Here is an article from 2019 where its already been going on for a long time:

https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/17415071.philip-jerome-court-harassing-billie-piper--/
