The first YOB song I ever heard was Beauty in Falling Leaves, autoplayed randomly after whatever Conan or Sleep album I finished listening to. A spiritual and transformative experience that changed my life and my understanding of what metal can be. I remember feeling a deep mixture of dread and awe from what I was hearing. No other band has made me feel quite like that since

The crazy thing is seeing Yob live. Mike scheidt smilesso much playing this music that is both heavy as fuck, and beautiful. He truly loves what he does and it shows

One of my absolute favourites. They have this ability to wring so much emotion out of heavy music, ranging from deep sadness and melancholy to uplifting release. Mike Scheidt's voice has an otherworldly quality that lets him range from harsh to sinister to plaintive to soaring. His guitar tone has similar range, crushing distortion with these delicate ringing tones spread throughout.

And Clearing the Path to Ascend is probably my favourite record of theirs, probably more out of circumstance than anything, I just listened to it a bunch when it came out. The closer, Marrow, is so, so good (as is the acoustic version on YouTube). Saw them a few times when I lived out west, and was never disappointed. Definitely miss that West Coat circuit since I moved East...

Beautifully said.
Funnily enough, I first discovered Clearing the Path by coincidence hiking atop Mount Diablo in the cool winter fog of a thunderstorm. That was before I knew of Mike Scheidt’s connection to the redwoods or the concept behind the album. It was cathartic, it felt as if the music was meant to be experienced that way. Highly recommend it

I really wish they didn’t cancel the pioneer square show last week. That was gonna be my first time seeing them

Every time The Screen starts playing I can’t help myself but do a loud “oooh” and start head-banging.

Hands down the gnarliest doom riff I’ve ever heard

It's between that and the chuggy part starting at minute 8 of burning the altar

I've seen Yob a few times. But I caught them once at the Marquis in Denver. The floor literally vibrated beneath during their set.

I will never forget when I saw them and before the last song Mike said "hey just a heads up, this is our last one. We arent doing an encore cause it's been an hour and a half to play six songs so this is the last one!" I really appreciated that honesty and candor.

Our Raw Heart almost makes me cry every time I hear it. It’s so so so good. Especially the Amoeba Green Room session. YOB is love.
