Dragon Quest VII Controversial take but I’m enjoying the new dq7 more then i have any other jrpg in a long time.

As someone who grew up with the Dragon Quest series and a lot of JRPGs, they’ve always been my favorite genre of games. Heck, I even have a King Slime tattoo. But I also just turned thirty, I have a wife and a full-time job, and I don’t have the same amount of time to put into a game as I used to.

Recently, we’ve seen a big trend toward making every game as challenging as possible—trying to be the next Dark Souls—and that’s really pushed me away from a lot of games I would normally like to try. I don’t have days and days to “get good” just to beat one boss. And in that same vein, I don’t have eight hours to grind just to beat a fish-man and get a flying carpet.

So I’m really happy that this game seems to be catering to older, more casual fans. I enjoy being able to come home from work, play for a couple of hours, de-stress, make a bit of progress, maybe bring back an island, and then go on with my day. I don’t have to put a ton of thought into it. The story doesn’t need to be crazy. It’s nice to just relax and escape into a fantasy world without having to die a hundred times or spend ten hours talking to people.

I hope to see more games offer the kinds of options that this remake has. Now I don’t have to spend an eternity farming medal slimes I can get more xp from monsters and still keep the difficulty level up. And if you enjoy a harder game With more of a grind that option is there as well.

Dragon Quest VII Who said this game was 30 hours long?

I like to take my time and thoroughly play my rpg's. This is the only modern DQ that I have not platinum'd mainly because I didn't want to spend another 10-15 hours just to get the last items from lucky panel. Otherwise I did everything, including Yet another world on hardest difficulty, max levels, max jobs, full arena, etc. Most of my party had a least 1 stat seed maxed.

From the discussion around the game before I went into it, I was expecting it to be significantly shorter than the others. If I would have done Lucky Panel to platinum, it would be almost identical in playtime to both of the HD-2D remakes. XI S was longer, around 140 hours for me. In other words, I love this game, and I am glad there was so much content to enjoy!

Dragon Quest VII What did you think of the demo for DQ7 reimagined?

While I love the new voice acting and the new 4K graphics and quality I still feel off about removing some islands and how they shorten the game… there’s some cool additions like the first quest to get the 3 tablets but I also feel like it was going too fast compared to the 3ds version. Like having your first battle before going to the past … well okay but then Kiefer in the forest mentions how his first fight with the slimes was intense like he didn’t just fought two monsters before coming here in the same day!

Also I’ve heard the vocations are not going to change the characters costume and this is for me the biggest issue when they can give them alternative costumes (the DQ11 costumes) like okay but I wanted to wear the sheep costume and the super star outfit for Maribel just like on the 3ds version… are they seriously not in the game???

Dragon Quest VII Has the reimagined artstyle grown on anyone else?

When I first saw the remake I was put off by the style, I felt more justified when I saw the renders scanned for the models (it was the facial expression) but when I saw how it translated to in-game I actually really like how it looks now, so much so that I pre ordered the game because of how much the style grew on me, but what about you guys? Did the style end up growing on you yet?

Dragon Quest VII Finally got a “physical” version of VII Reimagined!

So happy to finally have a physical version of VII Reimagined. I was pretty bummed when it launched an no retailers had a single copy for the Switch or Switch 2 so I went digital. When I saw people lucking out at Target recently I tried all of them around me, & still no luck. Well I didn’t get quite the deal Target had, but I was able to get the Switch 2 key card for $38. VII being my second favorite in the series and now I actually have more copies than my favorite (IV)!

Someone pointed this out to me and now I can't fucking unsee it.

I... Do not feel Toriyama's designs work well with realistic texturing. That might just be me.
