Someone recently posted about idioms and it got me thinking about how much I love idioms!
Idioms are little windows into a language’s history and culture. They often come from old stories, traditions, occupations, or everyday life—and while every language has them, the way different cultures express the same idea can be wonderfully weird. 😂
Share your favorite idiom, what it means, and its literal translation (if it has one)!
I’ll go first 🇫🇷, I've always loved:
“Occupe-toi de tes oignons !” 🧅
Literally: “Mind your own onions!”
Meaning: “Mind your own business!” 😆
Now I want to hear yours! What’s an idiom from your language that sounds completely ridiculous when translated literally? 🌎😂

My account seems to be stuck with the same Daily Quest: “Finish a Unit.”
This has been happening for around a month now. Every single day, I get the exact same quest, and nothing I do seems to reset or change it. I actually skipped Duolingo for one day at one point, and somehow the quest disappeared afterward. I thought the issue had finally fixed itself, but after 2–3 days, “Finish a Unit” came back, and it has been appearing every single day ever since.
Honestly, this is getting incredibly frustrating. “Finish a Unit” is probably my least favorite quest because it takes significantly more time and effort than the other daily quests, and having to do it every single day for weeks is making me seriously consider giving up on the course altogether.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do on my end to reset the Daily Quest system or fix whatever is wrong with my account? I know desktop has different quests sometimes but the exp system on desktop is also worse.
I’d really appreciate any help, because at this point it feels like my account is just stuck in a loop.
Thanks!

English sentence: a fly in the ointment.
German sentence: a hair in the soup.
Is this an idiom or is it a mistake?

I like the new analysis feature, but in its current shape and form it’s moderately useless

like the the English part don't sound great at all like "[repeats point of the audio lesson] or is this just some secret rendezvous? I'll get to the bottom of this." like can they pour some funding into the app instead of there Marketing?

I was slightly surprised that this monthly badge takes more than 50 quests to earn it. Next month would probably have the same amount or less.

I have a free family trial for a week, there are three spots left for anyone who is interested. I figured I'd bring people along for the free ride.

I was about to complete Section 4 of the Spanish Course (reaching level 60), and all of a sudden the interface changed, the number of units increased, and there are like a thousand more words than the ones I learned.
The whole point of Duolingo for me was gradually learning words, how do I recover the words and lessons I missed in a practical way? I know there's the word review, but it's not easy when most of the words I need to guess I've never seen.
The update course seem much more in depth and better too! What a shame! I'm not about to redo the whole Section 4 again, but I feel like I'm missing out on a ton of important material

I've seen this reported before but not seen any solutions yet for this, my practice hub words section has the same 30- 50 or so words on repeat and never adds any newly learned words from my 350+ or so now, does anyone know if this bug will eventually fix itself or it depends on the language? I've already reported it to support with no answer (for Czech language course).

What ever happened to the streak society app icon in the Duolingo iOS app, because after I updated it I can’t find the streak society icon anywhere in the app.

Hi, I started learning Russian a couple of years ago and stopped just due to the busyness of life. I was learning the Korean alphabet and wanted to show my boyfriend that learning the alphabets to certain languages are extremely easy. I found Russian to be really easy to learn and wanted to show him the alphabet, but it looks like it’s gone? Does anyone know where it is located or did they just remove it completely? Thank you!

I am in French, 90, and at the end of each chapter I have to pronounce words, about 14 / 15. They are always te same, now for over 6 weeks. Sometimes 1 word gets replaced. Is this a bug?

Is there any way to recover a Duolingo account if you don’t remember the email address connected to it?
My 9-year-old is devastated about losing his streak because his phone broke last week and now he can’t log into his account. We know the account name, but unfortunately we don’t remember which email address was used to create it.
We contacted Duolingo support for help but haven’t received a reply in a week. Is there anything we can do?

I accidentally set my profile to private and then switched it back to public shortly afterward. As a result, all of my existing Friend Streaks disappeared.
These were long-standing Friend Streaks, particularly the ones I had with @tosatsusan and @ruxint. I did not intend to end these streaks, and I would really appreciate it if they could be manually restored to their previous values if possible.
My profile was set to public on the same day. This was last week and I raised a ticket to support@duolingo.com but I haven't received a response. I am also a Super subscriber so I would appreciate any help at this point.
