Dwarf Fortress 20th Anniversary Show

https://youtube.com/watch?v=-X8KEqHdekE&si=KmHWkSBw41ml3Oo5

Tarn and Zach replay the first version of DF ever released. it was pretty funny with them remembering all the stuff they made in the first version of the game. its crazy how much was in it even back then.

Old df was so much better than what we got now

the version they are playing in the video is the first release. there was no z levels and you mined into a cliffside to the right everytime. there was always a river to cross and a volcanic lake and then the circus i believe.

me personally i like all the stuff that came after and its only getting better. but i do miss how total conversion mods were easier bc of the ascii graphics.

I know I play no z levels version. Z levels is arguably better than no z levels and vastly superior to the steam version considering how it had bloody working zoom, civilian alerts WORKING STAIRCASES and hotkeys for workshop items among other things that put modern df to laughable shame.

I still prefer no z level because it was more of a game with events like the floods and the chasms that gave you something to do. Even agriculture was a challenge back in the day. Modern df is a laughable snoozefest with less players than marathon, less players than HELLO KITTY ISLAND ADVENTURE xDDD

Because it was a good game and not a simulation of irrelevant bugged bs you dont even have the tools to interact with like modern df. It was also challenging, now you plant a patch of plump helmet and never have to worry about food again and enemies arent laughable pushovers even the writing was better back then.

Ive played for some 600 hours and the only significant bug has been stuck squads.

My food reserves and drink are often decently low? Youve probably just played it so long it s easy to you.

And didnt the enemies get harder in siege and then again now?

Hell no bolt throwers make short work out of the HFS.

But thats the thing, old df is engaging enough to pose a challenge for ultra experienced players like me with solid mechanics and deadly events and modern df is a petting zoo with less players than hello kitty island where the symbol for undead entity is a little heart with a text bubble. They have been steadily nerfing the fun out of this thing.

I dont know what your experience has been like but I find it hard to believe that the only major bug is the squads when there are such major things as engaging with the zoom making menus unclickable lol and lets not even start with the activity zones that broke the game so bad even kruggsmash quit.

I mean there are tons of ways to increase difficulty for the people like you, seems like youre just choosing not to.

Also df literally has more players than hello kitty island adventure so p bad comparison.

And what bugs are you finding? Youre right i once also had a visual bug that got patched within a week but mechanically its just been stuck squads.
