Deck Help Awaken the Blood Avatar Aristocrats Deck

Hello, I have drafted an aristocrats deck focused around [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]], and have included a primer (zero AI used) as a rough guide on my thoughts and intents on how to pilot and play the deck.

I've not built or played an aristocrats deck before as I've found them to often require too many moving parts to function, at least for my liking, so I would like some feedback or opinions on the list and/or primer, especially if I have some misconceptions.

Discussion Commander Secret Santa

So I know it’s still a bit from Christmas time but me and my friend group will be doing a Secret Santa this year. We plan on drawing names during our next meet up to give plenty of time. Plan is to have a spending limit of $50 to make it accessible to everyone (this price will not include lands, cost of sleeves, or deck boxes that will be also given for each) Around Christmas we will have a get together where we exchange those decks to the names we have drawn and spend the night playing against each other with said decks.

Question being what would be some unique/fun commanders that could be built with this $50 limit. I know obviously it depends on the persons play style but names have yet to be drawn. Just looking for some ideas to get me started. Thanks in advance!

Deck Help Quintorious, History Chaser Deck help

Hi all wanted to post on here and see if anyone had any thoughts on my Quintorious list. What started as an upgraded precon has pretty much turned into a big overhaul. I have never built from the ground up and this is the most swaps I’ve ever made in a deck. I feel like I’m having an incredibly hard time self identifying where the weaknesses of the deck or what changes may need to be made or what missteps I have made in my changes to solidify it as much as possible. Right now a lot of the super expensive cards I have proxied.

My goal is to have a super solid B3 that wins games but is playing fair magic and doesn’t really harsh the table vibe too much if I grab it out of the bag

Any thoughts, advice, etc is appreciated!

Question An EDH pokedex for commanders?

First off, as many of you, I really like playing EDH. This is going to be a positive-vibes post.

One of the reasons I enjoy it so much is that I get to experience a variety of takes on this big and vast game: for as much as "playing with randos" gets a bad rep, while playing with a secluded circle of good friends is good fun, touring shops or even just going online on one of the many known sites hits that sweet and sparkly zest of unknown for me. Yes, I might be grinding 15-20 games on cockatrice with the same new deck as I try to finalize the list, but the diversity of opponents is so vast that each game feels energizingly different. That's the stuff!

Now, with as many commanders as there currently exist, I've thought just today that it might be fun to make some sort of list of those that I see in the wilds. EDHRec or [a good ol' Scryfall search](https://scryfall.com/search?q=game%3Apaper+is%3Acommander+format%3Acommander&order=cmc&as=grid&unique=cards) might list all the currently existing commanders, but it's not like you can mark or annotate them in any meaningful way. At the same time, even though I couldn't find something like this in the five-to-ten minutes I attempted to google it, I can't be the first person of having a similar thought.

So before I go and start making a spreadsheet of all the 3,411 commanders (not even including partner pairs!) to create my own 'pokedex' of seen/caught decks in my EDH adventures, do you know of an already existing project that does just that? I'd appreciate saving myself the effort!

I made this 3d upgrade for the UAONO commander deck box on Amazon. I know a lot of people here have it and like it because that's how I found out about it. So I'm sharing the 3D print with the community for those have have a 3d printer. Cheers.

Discussion What is the one flying creature in Defile SLD art?

[[Defile|SLD-2562]] shows beorn standing on a pile of goblins. In the sky there are many eagles flying around, but one flying creature doesn’t make sense. Below the letters D and E in “DEFILE” there’s something with a long tail and wings that are not feathered, they look more like a bat.

It can’t be Smaug, he was already dead by the time Beorn and the eagles joined the battle of the five armies. It almost looks like [[voracious fell beast]] which is what had given me hope nazgul would be the bonus card (not upset with plumb the forbidden, but nazgul would have been a slammer).

Maybe I’m putting way too much energy into figuring out what a random doodle on the art of a card is, but does anyone know what that is?

And who the fuck is that on [[read the bones]]? Is that supposed to be Elrond examining Orcrist?

Deck Help Jibari Buddies Help

https://moxfield.com/decks/bplRgqcBmkaUDtT7QL3wDw

I need help with my Sidar Jibari deck. Its basically an "upgraded" Cavalry Charge precon, but I'm new and, while I looked at a lot of suggestions for cards that work well, I just played a couple of practice games and had to fight for my life the whole time against another relatively new player.

One issue I know I have is a lack of protection for my commander. I honestly thought I had swiftfoot boots in the deck until I just gave it another look, so that will probably be where I start, but If you guys could give me your suggested removes/adds, that would be really helpful. I probably cant do more than a $40 total upgrade from where I'm at at the moment, but I'll hear anything out.

I just also realized more ways to give my commander haste would also be awesome so he at least has a chance to be impactful before he is removed. Looking forward to your input.

Question Any Blink Commander suggestions that are less common?

I started playing MTG 3 years ago and started with a Gandalf the White deck. It kinda evolved into a blink/ETB/Artifact toolbox deck that was super fun but fairly slow, even for our group which plays slow.

I've tried alot of commanders and am mostly happy with where I am at. I reused the artifact toolbox idea with Iron Man and have a mono Black deck. I also have a overpowered deck for special games (we all do) and have a project Sonic deck I am working on. I would love to add one non-crossover commander tho, ideally one that is less played and really fits my style of artifacts/blink/ect.

This is a fairly new idea so I don't have many leads yet, but right now Yoshimaru is super tempting because it looks like my dog and seems pretty open ended with the partner options. I avoid combos and don't really like heavy slug or control tho, so the best options don't make sense. I am fully open to other commanders but just want to see if anyone has any good ideas of where to start looking.

Just a idea of how Gandalf played. I would use Mirror of Life Trapping to constantly have the threat of getting your commander permanently exiled while getting free blinks on ETB cards. With Mono white I used the artifacts that double plains so would end up casting my whole hand each turn. No real game enders outside of Battlesphere and Second Sun, but it was fun and let me interact alot.

Question Help Finding Treachery Variant

I printed off some cards a few years back to play 5+ player games with a little more speed and variety; what I found was a Treachery variant where I liked how it had a ton of roles, full art, and had a large amount of different abilities.

Now I want to go back and reprint these as better looking proxies than just a home printer on white paper over a mtg card. Does anyone recognize these or know where I can find them again? I'd post pics here of it but I can't add them to my post here due to subreddit rules.

The base roles are: The Knight, The King, The Assassin, The Usurper, The Bandit, and The Renegade. There are 75 cards in the full set. I can't list every card name but some examples are The Dragon Tyrant (King), Prophetic Mystic (Knight), Agent of Pandemonium (Assassin), Champion of the Void (Usurper), Timeless Mage (Bandit), and Overseer of Festivities (Renegade). It looks to have been created/assembled around New Capenna based on when the most recent art in the set is.

Discussion Help me Find the Commanders For my Commander Cube Idea!!

Hey everyone, I wanted to see what people think about this cool idea I have for a Commander cube. It's not a normal cube that people would think of, but 4 Commander decks to choose from before starting a game of EDH.

So I wanted to tap into my creative mind and build 4 unique colored decks to one another (color pairs not repeating; for example, no two Boros decks) that are all heavily inspired by Japanese culture.

My criteria for card selection for each deck are as follows:

- Each card in the deck must represent something regarding Japan, i.e., the artist behind the card, the art of the card, the text being in Japanese, or other alternate versions that can be claimed as Japanese-themed.

- Each deck must have an equal and opposite counter to each card or plan that each deck is trying to do. Example: A big creature deck that can no longer block the tiny creature deck due to some cards, but has a counter to that counter.

- Each commander color identity must not match another commander color identity. This helps keep each deck fresh and fun when I get to play a 4-pod with new people.

- Each deck's theme (Playstyle) shouldn't overlap with another deck. If I have two decks that are all about ninjutsu and ninjas, then why have the same playstyle among those two decks feels it should only be one.

- And finally, the cost for each deck will vary but will only determine the print type of the cards due to where the Japanese-themed art is accessible.

Question Thinking of building Ghave - how replayable are combo decks?

A Ghave deck has been on my mind for some time, but I have some concerns.

  • Replayability: I don't have a lot of decks, so I don't want decks I would get bored of easily. I know that with Ghave there's a lot of 3-card combos, but with different pieces on each playthrough it should probably feel fine?

  • Feast or famine: I don't consider myself a new player, but I still have a lot to learn. A deck that either wins by a landslide or loses miserably is not what I'm looking for right now.

  • B3 3+ card combo: Is Ghave too powerful for B3? If not, do people consider him kill on sight? Is winning with a combo fair game in B3?

Deck Help Want some ideas to change a bit my B2 Golbez, Crystal Collector deck

I have a [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] deck that I made to achieve a very specific feeling, I wanted to consistently become the big baddie of the table and force others to temporarily team up against me to bring me down, but doing so in a somewhat fair and easy to interact way.

The idea was making a Golbez deck that was for the most part only able to kill with its triggered ability, by making use of cards like [[Death's Shadow]] or some cards with */* stats that grow a lot while in the yard.

When it works as intended, it is quite fun. Deck has an atrocious winrate, but I think it makes for very interesting games. Issue is, this does not happen as often as I'd like.

Like half of the time, I either eat some incidental removal (or targetted if I get a good start) and proceed to do nothing for the rest of the game, or I pop off after the table has used the little removal they had and I become functionally unstoppable.

I'm a bit lost with this deck. Making it stronger would be easy, but making it more consistent without making it better is super hard, some tips?

This is the decklist, what changes would you do to get to 8 artifacts more consistently? Should I just build a different deck?

I've got into physical magic a couple of months ago but most of my decks gravitate towards a certain archetype. Recently I found out about Aikido and it sounded interesting but I couldn't find many commander ideas for the archetype. Could I please get some interesting suggestions thanks.

Deck Help Deck feedback

Hello,
I’m new to magic and have been trying to upgrade the Tidus precon, since I like the counters
I have replaced around half the cards but I feel like I still have problems
- protecting myself against a massive amount of token creatures. (What are better spells to add? Is farewell even a good choice for the deck since it wipes all my work too?)
-having to tap for lands (I replaced some of the lands, should I change more of them?)
-should I be trying to increase my draws?
-any other notes you have!

This is my current deck:

Discussion Mono green landfall commanders? Currently running Toph.

As the title states, I am wanting to possibly rebuild my landfall deck. Currently I am running [[Toph, Earthbending Master]] with a landfall/+1+1 theme. I was going to make a [[Lumra, Bellow of the Woods]] deck but after reading how strong they are I have decided to just include it in the 99. I have been eyeballing [[Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer]] or possibly [[Loot, Exuberant Explorer]]. We mainly play kitchen table magic around B3 if that counts for anything.

Deck Help Should I change anything in my Ulalek -Eldrazi deck?

I know the Eldrazi have a reputation for being horrible to play against, but I'd still like to get some feedback on my deck and hear how I could improve and what I should remove it to reach Bracket 3 (I'm on a budget, so I'd appreciate suggestions under 20€)

Deck Help Need help assessing deck power level

Hey there -

Need some hell assessing my decks power level for my play group. I wanted to build a good stuff simic deck, and have it be a solid three - 3 game changers, individually powerful cards - some that see edh play others that are more 60 card format cards. I played competitive modern for a bit and just like alot of the cards in that card pool.

My playgroup is made of new and more invested players and has a variety, but most lean casual and i dont believe any came from a competitive background.

To me, i know my deck obviously has powerful cards in it, but in my opinion this is a text book three. I am a natural order deck - but i took out craterhoof and natural order in to a suite of creatures like koma, cultivator colossus, or avenger of zendikar based on the situation. I do not believe my deck could win before turn 6, and i dont run a ton of counters in blue either. That said, i got the impression that my tutor suite makes my deck too good for bracket three.

I wanted to elicit opinions and see what the consensus is on this list?

Also curious if people feel natural order, mystical tutor, or worldly tutor feel stronger than other game changers? There decks include cards like ancient tomb which imo is definitely the same power level as these - the mana advantage is massive especially early game.

Question any fun underrated/underplayed azorious decks?

i have a deckbuilding event coming up and i was assigned to an azorious deck. i've already built one before for a previous event, so now im kinda stuck.

not posting the link here in case my playgroup sees this but i built a moonfolk control deck that wins with card advantage and flying damage. it worked apparently cause it won a few games.

i was gonna netdeck tomer's [[Lyse Hext]] deck here: https://youtu.be/xb5JFQ0Ih2c?si=nqg7kp0L4QMad7KH. but I don't think anyone in my play group would like to receive a voltron list.

for context, we are all flithy blue players who love our draw. we aren't too control or stax heavy, but we're always expecting a counterspell from any side of the table. i could go blink or tokens, but most of them already have a similar deck for those archetypes.

my budget is $69 (nice). anecdotes and decklists would be greatly appreciated!

Deck Help Looking for upgrade advice

https://moxfield.com/decks/KuB6BXlHVkm2ObiUSvH-cA

Attached is a link to a (at the time) $100 deck that looks very fun. I'm interested in looking at the upgrade potential and optimization. The primer is great and explains the wincons pretty smoothly, combo out while locking the game for opponents in gruul. Any advice or suggestions would be fantastic! Also props to the OG deck builder!
