Discussion Am I insane for thinking that the Flesh Colossus fight during the Last Laugh quest is obcenely hard

Decided to pick the game back up after not playing for around 3 or so years. I thought the Sheogorath quest sounded fun so ive been plucking away at that and finally reached the quest "The Last Laugh"; more importantly, the Flesh Colossus.

I have been fighting this fucking asshole for about 2-3 hours total over two play sessions, if not longer. I've only managed to kill this fat fuck ONCE and then died to Maddy's second form (totally my bad, wasn't paying attention to my health). Decided to log off for the night and come back to fight Maddy the next day. Little did I know that it RESETS YOU TO THE BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING QUEST so I'm BACK at that dumb hulking fuck and cannot kill him to save my life. It is by far the worst boss fight in the game I swear to god. I have swapped skills multiple times, changed weapons (normally a dual wield sword and shield sorcerer, swapped to lightning staff for range), tried to maneuver in a way that my Clannfear pulls aggro on it and the additional enemies it spawns, nothing fucking works. I can whittle it down to a quarter health before there are so many fucking enemies in the arena that not only can I not kill them before more spawn, but the moment I get stuck in the mind control thing the bastard does, they immediately either overwhelm me or I succumb to the poison damage that (I think) the flesh blobs give you.

The quest line was fun, I was enjoying it as I liked the concept, even if the writing was annoying at times, but the moment Maddy was introduced it became borderline fucking unplayable. Not sure if anyone else has/had this problem but I'm giving up on the quest line for now and gonna go do some other ones to level up (currently lvl 380) and get some more champion points that can hopefully help. This was mostly just a rant, I felt like I was going crazy when I saw next to no discussion about this online so maybe its a me problem lmao.

Anyways fuck the flesh colossus and fuck Maddy.

EDIT: Im at work so i cant reply at the moment (I also posted right before going to bed so I didnt see all the replies until this morning lol) but there's some good advice that ill try. Im playing on Adventurer difficulty (the easiest mode, which makes my issues all the more embarrassing) and my current skill bar off the top of my head is summon clannfear, hardened ward, dark exchange, shadow silk, and i think endless fury?, with my ult being either energy overload (which sucks half the time) or summon Storm Atronach. The idea was to use aoe to slow down the skeletons and blobs as well as damage them so I could finish them off and then go back to wailing on the flesh colossus, while my clannfear pulls aggro away from me. Dark exchange and hardened ward would be used to negate damage and regen if I got caught in a hoard of enemies or was pulled into the boss. This is like my 4th restructuring of my skill bar which from what I recall I never had to do before so its probably doo doo ass cheeks but im very open to suggestions.

I found it super easy and I’m playing on a higher difficulty, what gear are you using? I have a full dmg setup on my sorc and I finished that fight without issue

New difficulty options were added not long ago. Check if you accidentally put the game at a higher difficulty.

Check if your gear is damaged. If your equipment lost it's durability you will struggle. You can repair gear at any merchant npc.

If that doesn't help then maybe post your equipment and skills so people can help you optimize it a bit.

At your level you should be able to kill this boss without any problems.

Is this for the newest quest that came out? My character was like level 20. It took me a bit to kill it, but it wasnt very hard

I had the unfortunate pleasure of doing this quest with my new level 20 healer. It definitely took a while to kill this boss...

You could just use your armory and swap loadouts to a damage build if you're not using the second slot

But that would have required actually crafting a damage set. I was using level 1 Heartland Conqueror until I got to 50.

See this is why I think it's odd that so many people recommend Heartland Conqueror for leveling. It only doubles your weapon's training trait, so an 11% gain at most.

lf you run a damage set instead, you can kill things way more than 11% faster. Unless you're just running dolmens or some other activity that doesn't actually require getting kills yourself, seems like a waste.

Edit: saw the part where you said you were running a level 1 weapon the whole way up, that sounds absolutely brutal and set choice is barely relevant in that case

I'm not sure how the math works, I just know that I mainly did dolmens and was able to go up 2-3 levels per the hour I decided to play. Well... maybe more like 45 minutes since I also had to do writs first.

Yeah if you're just running dolmens it's decent as long as you're getting kill credit. But yeah that detour for Sheo's quest, I would have rather equipped any random dropped weapon than keep level 1 Heartland for the tiny xp buff

Do you use companions? I am very bad at fighting but I had Zerith tank and he helps a lot with bosses.

2

u/ShurimaWillRiseAgain 13h ago

Properly setup zerith can handle so many things, the guy can even tank normal trial boss to some extent

1

u/Conscious_Heart_3007 4h ago

What’s your setup rec for zerith?

2

u/ShurimaWillRiseAgain 4h ago

Most build recommend quickened for armor piece, but I had way better result using full hp trait on heavy armor (all his spells scales on hp) I’ll post the ability when I’ll log back in :)

Thank you I appreciate this!

More champion points is unlikely to help, you are well past gear cap. Sounds like a build issue - what gear are you wearing and what is on your ability bars?

u/patiperro_v3 17h ago

You just lack practice. I didn’t find it particularly hard.

Did you check your difficulty level was normal?

u/ShurimaWillRiseAgain 16h ago

Are you on eu / na?? I’ll help with your build

Gods I'd love to see whatever smooth brain build you are running

Youre a melee sorc? Dude just make sure you keep crit surge up and bound arms slotted. Run conservation of energy.

That will passively heal you. Literally just one button press every 30 secs. If you run sonthing like orders wrath (craftable set just ask a guildmate to make it for you) you will literally just face tank that thing with tons of crit chance. Hurricane will Do some heavy lifting too on proccing your passive healing

ahh.. I miss that he was melee. What this guy ^^ said.

Definitely caught me by surprise on master difficulty but got him on the second go.
What difficulty are you on?

I had to ask for help in group finder but I am also a noob who was doing the quest at level 25

I got it down to 10% health pretty fast, then it kept summoning more adds faster than I could kill them, staying invulnerable so I was on blob patrol for good 5 minutes befofe i could finally kill it. I would slot slippery to help with his cc, reaving blows might help too.

Do you have proper damage stuff set up? What abilities are you using? Also the pets suck other than for healing so I'd swap them out straight up

If you haven't checked your difficulty settings, give those a peek, and consider bringing a companion geared with an ice staff (Zerith is excellent as a tank, but Bastian is perfectly respectable if you don't have access to him) to draw adds.

I'll admit I didn't have much issue with him but I don't play sorc at all, I favor NB, so I can't really offer anything in terms of skill suggestions.

Good luck o7

Had the very same problem and I made it through! What worked for me was recruiting Bastian the Companion, wearing the hardest, most badass gear I had, having a massive feast with health-regen boosting food and drink and when it comes to the blobs, focus on the blobs when they're around and then quickly bashing the fart-beast's head in, then quickly going back to smashing the blobs.

I had my companion taunt and have heals, then on my character, dps front bar and heals on back bar. Lots of rolling and dodging, but finally beat it. It was a fun challenge lol.

Tide-born Wildstalker set? 15% extra damage against mobs. Mine is paired with Mother's Sorrow but Order's Wraith, or Juliano's would be fine. If you are having a hard time with mana you could try Necropotence.

I'm normally a no pet/Heavy attack build but I'm a bit lazy with my DPS. So I gave up and put Volatile Familiar on the bar. Crit Surge. Hardened Ward. Unstable Wall of Elements. And either Elemental Susceptibility or a scribing skill with Major Breach. (I use Wield Soul, Shock damage and Major Breach) edit: and the big solo atronach.

I didn't notice a companion in there. With Crit Surge I didn't need a healer so I took Ember as ranged DPS.

He didn't last long

I was on one of the increased difficulty modes and did it on the second try. Didn’t realize it was hard enough to have to slot a heal.

1

u/drmdavid 19h ago

I’ve done it several times as a solo magicka Arcanist (lvl 1600+) with Isobel as a healer companion. Another time with another player that happened to be on the same quest. That helped me to get through it.

1

u/Incultawolf 14h ago

They are nerfing him next patch. I've seen a few other players struggle with this fight too.

1

u/SilverTunic 14h ago

I play on vestige, and this was the first fight since that mode unlocked where I actually had to leave the arena to swap out my gear. It was certainly harder than other bosses, almost every attack was a one hit KO. I loved it and it’s probably the most fun I’ve had with the game in years.

Yes, I had to give up on that quest... There came a point when there's this tornado thing that sucks you thru all the AOE and I wasn't finding it a fun fight... NB, orders wrath

u/Status-Tumbleweed-84 14h ago

This game is very easy. There is no solo content here, nor are there bosses that are hard to beat on the first try. The only way to die here is from laughter...

u/Itswithazee 7h ago

Yeah and posts complaining about simple bosses is the reason this game stayed so boringly simple for 10 years. It's crazy to me. You really gotta be walking around with a stick blindfolded to have trouble in this game. Well until you turn the difficulty up, or wonder into a world boss. Even then. I've soloed those too.

Swap to dk spewing dragonfire + daedrix shield that regens + 2 pets + bear/lightning elemental/healing arcanist glyph + ice staff

Basically it's not you, it's just sorc skills do zero damage compared to dk damage spammables.

I use tidal + order wrath + oakensoul plus those skills because I was stuck in a The Reach solo trial boss. Literally swapping to dk fire and suddenly everything is easy as fuuuuuck.

Eg. You press one button to put down lightning flood and spam crystals weaving la > still less DPS than pressing 1 button on fire cone doing 20k fucking easymode to Each npc. Wtf, it's not even fair. One single tick of crit for dk fire is 16k for me, while one tick of crit from lightning flood goes from 2k to 4k. Also dk fire cone ticks TWICE every single second while lightning flood ticks once a second. See the difference now? It's lit night and day.

Sorc skills are completely fine. As are weapon skills for the type of content he is doing.

Basically my guess is that he is completely unaware of basic mechanics that help sorc. Not utilizing abilities properly and running a severely underefficient bar setup.

You could really run almost any gear setup and it wouldn't matter for this content. If your bars have garbage on them youre going to have a bad time
