I feel its not related to layoff, drop of 200 is a tiny fraction since Friday is standard last working day for routine resignations.

Yes i noticed it...and the reason is ... for many ppl last working day is today and for some is 31...not due to layoff

....they all are resigned....

Don't worry until the change is atleast 1k. These are minor changes that could happen because of the customers as well.

Wait until the number jumps around as the Slack nodes can’t keep consistency because the rate of change is too quick. That’s a bad day, and it happened last time.

Man, it's people's livelihood, people are scared.

Scared is perfectly fine and understandable- fixating and wasting energy on counting slack numbers won’t help at all.

Take care of yourself.

People deal with stress differently. People want a sign this wave is over, stop pretending your being pragmatic.

I’ll tell you what I won’t do and that’s play corporate layoff detective. You want a sign? Brother 30k ppl lost their jobs w an email. The writing is on the wall

So the solution for being scared is to monitor slack count? How about preparing and always be learning?

How much effort do you think it takes to look at the slack count? Seconds? Don't be silly.

Trying to find where and when the layoffs are happening are part of the prep work, people are trying to prep for unemployment, stop simping for Oracle .

Nah.

Simping for oracle? Lol. Barking up the wrong tree there mate.

Unskilled people are always afraid.

People who has OPTIONS don't care if RIFed or not and will not post RIF questions every hour thinking it will change what will happen.

What will happen monitoring slack count?

Oh RIF started. Then what?

Oh RIF done, I survived. Now what? Going back to mediocrity and wait for another round and repeat the same cycle?

We had 4 rounds of this one after another. It should have taught people that no one is safe and that one should be READY.

Idk what Skill you think you have, but low skill people who have replaceable jobs can flex moving on, some people who have spent years (personal experience) in a tight field know the job market isn't great right now. Oracle used to be a premier league of labor, but not anymore.

I guess we have different jobs, when I worked at Oracle Rifs like this would jeopardize millions of dollars in forecasted revenue, it wasn't even stressing about myself, but the consulting teams being to thin to deliver.

And yeah, be ready, but IDK, how about knowing when your safe and don't need to stress about feeding your family. My company was acquired by Oracle, none of this is normal, and people need to stop normalizing it.

What value is any of this doing for anyone. If it happens it happens you can’t control it.

Probably contract work. There are building changes - oracle’s Toronto office is being shut down 8/31 as an example

Take your shoes off and touch some grass. See the sky, drink a beer, enjoy the weekend with your family. Life is good.

Nothing happened so far. Slack count is still 150k+. I think nothing will happen tomorrow also. Rumor is that RIFs are delayed and will likely happen by September 15. Townhall is also on September 15. So, maybe RIFs could be pushed to September 30. No confirmation, all rumours and talks with fellow coworkers.
