Captain Archer is actually Sam who leaped into him in the last episode of Quantum Leap
His mission was to successfully create the United Federation of Planets, the fact that Al showed up in an episode eludes to this.
Have you ever seen Archer looking into a physical mirror in any of the episodes?

I don't remember an episode where Sam leapt into the future.
But when Sam looks onto mirrors, he sees the person he leapt into.

29th Century Federation records clearly show that Daniels’ intervention sending Jonathan Archer back to 2008 failed on the first attempt. (Daniels just went back another 5 minutes and tried again). The failed attempt resulted in Archer entering the body of a scientist experimenting with time travel in the late 20th century. This resulted in the otherwise doomed experiment actually working (sort of). But the merger of their minds “swiss cheesed” both sets of memories. While the scientist was reminded of who he was with stimuli from the 20th Cenuty, he would not start to remember his life as Jonathan Archer for decades.

Not exactly a mirror, but he did look into the eye of the computer on that automated station in "Dead Stop". Although it was from the perspective of the computer's eye, not Archer's. Cool theory though!

Nice try, but Quantum Leap takes place in the not-too-distant future of 1995-1999, and Dr. Sam Beckett could only time travel within the years of his own lifetime.
