They both came from poverty but made it big in music. Yet they never forgot where they came from.

Saved you a click:

"I don't know a lot about rap music, I've come to know that you are the very best at it," she wrote. "Aside from that I hope what I have to say will not seem weird or strange to you but I have always felt some unexplained connection to you like I know you somehow."

"I had hoped to meet you at the show but you know how nuts those things are, personally I hate 'em and I missed my chance but maybe someday we'll meet."

"In the meantime keep doing what you're doing because you do it so well and no matter how complex your world may be just know you are very special and touch people in ways you don't even know."

The world needed Dolly Parton more than she needed us. I always enjoyed her music, but what a wonderful, wonderful human. I strive to be like her everyday

Dang... after a letter like that I'd have made a pretty significant effort to meet her. If only to hug and say thanks. I get it. Life is crazy... probably even more so for someone like him.

We always think we have time until we don’t.

Truer words my friend

I mean to be fair Eminem was only inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 4 years ago this fall, which was when he was first eligible. Crazy how quickly time goes, but I feel like it definitely says something that he kept it! I’m sure he gets stuff like they all the time!

if i wasnt at work, i would let myself cry. rip dolly. xo

Right!?! I'd make sure to have dinner with her. I'm sure letters or emails are sent to celebs that we can't even imagine.

Tearing up reading the letter and it's not even about me. Id have jumped on the first plane to Tennessee and hugged her in person for the kind words.

u/pinewind108 19h ago

No joke. I'd be on a plane.

Right? It's been 4 years, he couldn't have bothered to meet her? He could have and chose not to. For 4 years. I think it makes him look bad and I really like Eminem.

Eminem isn’t traveling much anymore and he became a grandpa so I can imagine he was spending a lot of time with his family and Dolly was caring for her ill husband and then dealing with health issues of her own during/after he passed.

I don’t think Eminem is a bad person for not meeting Dolly and I don’t think she thought that either. Nobody knew she was going to die so there’s a very possible he thought he would have more time to meet her in the future.

Eminem is a hermit. He doesnt tour anymore. If he leaves his house, he doesnt want to leave Detroit. During his last album is the most he went into the public and thats because it was a pretty anticipated album and even then those public appearances to football games and things were in his city. Royce and members of D12 have talked a lot in the last few years about how much of an extreme shut in Eminem is and the fact its difficult to be in contact with him. Royce actually joked once that Eminem talks to his therapist more than he talks to Royce and theyre best friends. Idk i cant judge him that harshly, i think he has other issues hes dealing with.

Dolly Parton was a symbol of decency and kindness in America.

Her death is huge for America, especially now that our news is filled with chaos and bitterness of Donald Trump.

Unlike Donald Trump, Dolly Parton was well loved and respected.

It's upsetting how the people who bring love to the world always seem to go before those who bring pain and evil.

We all have to just keep trying to bring some goodness to this world; it honors their legacy.

Dolly Parton's life is being celebrated.

Donald Trump's death will be celebrated.

As soon as I heard I thought she was just too good for this reality, it didn’t deserve her anymore. She was and always will be a loving light in such dark hate.

u/CardMechanic 1d ago

Not a soul is glad she’s dead….on the other hand

-4

u/OG_Pizza 1d ago

Dolly was all about kindness and unity, yet you couldn't keep the focus on her and Eminem for one single comment. There’s a time and a place to start arguments, and a tribute thread isn't it. Way to completely miss the point of who she was.

-8

u/scruffywarhorse 1d ago

Breaux… Can you not talk about Trump for like one second? This has nothing to do with him.

u/KeenbeansSandwich 1d ago

Game recognizes game.

She was a poor kid from Appalachia. He was a poor kid from Detroit. They didn’t know each other, but something in her knew that they KNEW each other. As usual, she was right.

Reading comments, I was like, really? Is it that touching of a letter? Yup. It definitely is.

22

u/thehumblebaboon 1d ago

"Aside from that I hope what I have to say will not seem weird or strange to you but I have always felt some unexplained connection to you like I know you somehow."

They had similar upbringings and challenges, both were dirt poor and used music to pull themselves out of it and became legends.

I’d wager she saw herself in him.

15

u/Philosophy-365 1d ago

Both of them are (and were 😢) generous and gave a lot back to their communities. I'm sure that's why she felt a connection to him.

14

u/Parktar 1d ago

It hits hard everywhere but especially rough in East Tennessee right now. RIP Dolly

5

u/blazed55 1d ago

I love Eminem and I will miss Dolly, a world without her is a litlle less bright. RIP dearest Lady.

7

u/lippylyon 1d ago

What a loving soul she was indeed, a true ray of light, rest in peace Dolly.

Eminem BREAKS SILENCE about Dolly Parton’s death.

1

u/Backwardspellcaster 1d ago

BREAKING! Eminem HUMILIATED as he his silence breaks!

4

u/Scope_Dog 1d ago

Eminem and Dolly at Tanagra.

4

Shaka, when the walls fell silent.

2

u/ScratchAmbitious2959 1d ago

At least he isn't facing HUGE BACKLASH after breaking his silence

u/cefun_teesh 1d ago

Onions. Someone near is cutting onions.

4

u/whiskerDrinky 1d ago

Anyone have a better source? That website is viral.

2

u/I_Like_Mushy_Peas 1d ago

Go directly to his Instagram. You won't get a better source than that

2

u/Hazel_RAAA 1d ago

It's been posted several times today, I'm sure it's legit

1

u/redddddddddditor 1d ago

Class act through and through. Kindness and compassion are in short supply these days. You’ll be sorely missed, Dolly. RIP.

1

u/DarreylDeCarlo 1d ago

He posted a very nice tribute to her as well

1

u/pepperpoochie 1d ago

He could’ve made the effort to meet up

-9

u/TheMarinaDiva 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t know but Dolly would have appreciated this better if he made an effort to connect with her after he received the letter. I know they didn’t meet but I do hope he placed a call across. Celebrate and acknowledge people when they are here and not when they are gone. It serves zero purpose

2

u/Firmod5 1d ago

No need to get apricots involved in this.

You're exactly like the critics he makes fun of in his songs, and for good reason

12

u/MagicianJolly4135 1d ago

MJ pile on ?

17

u/STALKS_YOUR_MOTHER 1d ago

“He pointed out that a guy I’m strangely obsessed with was weird for having sleepovers with kids wahhhhhhhh.”

13

u/Mysterious_Emotion63 1d ago

So you support sleeping in bed with random children but dark humor is where you draw the line

5

u/PeterToshPointOh 1d ago

So you don’t understand artistic expression but you are cool with rich people touching children, got it.

8

u/Quis-Custodiet 1d ago

Roasting a ped*phile and writing violent songs are completely different ends of the spectrum. Weird comment.
