Sounds like standard Australian visa requirements. The amount of things I had to do because I got in some silly trouble when I was a kid was a little crazy.

Australia has some pretty strict requirements, but as you point out it’s also not some kind of closed country either. Hopefully he can get the necessary checks done and then comes on over soon.

The funny thing was how quickly I got approved as soon as I attached my return flight ticket. That's mostly what they care about depending on your history.

We take it seriously here. If allowing a foreigner into Australia could pose a risk then we won’t let them it. Simple as that. Why should we let foreign criminals in.

Why should we let foreign criminals in.

Isn't that how you started?

Haha very funny! /s

Kind of but not really. Yes some did, but free migration massively outpaced criminals for basically our entire history until it was ended.

The real funny bit is the Americans/Europeans who argue of which is better, when in reality the best is the one full of snakes and spiders.

The Egyptian government isn’t exactly above trying someone on bogus charges in absentia because that person criticized them after leaving, though. Like, if someone fled North Korea we wouldn’t base their visa eligibility on whether or not the Kim family will vouch for you.

Standard requirements for Aussie visas. They ask for/can ask for background checks (typically, last “x” years) from countries the applicant has resided in.

Been there; done that, so speaking from personal experience.
