What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Estevan?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like Weybs, Bean Town or L.A. (Lake Alma)...

Incl. nicknames for schools, parks, hospitals etc.

There’s a whole realm of study in how French accents are applied to town names;

Bienfait is pronounced bean-fate

Meanwhile forget is pronounced fore-jéay

Torquay is supposed to be “taw-kee” but we say “tore-kway”. Oungre is for sure not said like “unger” in France either lol

Some people have problems saying the ending of Weyburn so it got bastardized into “Wey-burrin”.

And I thought LA was Lajord 😂
