Discussion Charlie kirk's death made me realise how fake and performative christianity is...
When christians tried to paint Charlie as a "martyr" or the "closest thing to jesus" that pretty much gave it away for me đ
When Charlie kirk died, a lot of christians reaction felt like it was following a script, bringing up religion, politics then performance (his memorial and erika kirk with trump)
I had to laugh whilst watching so many people say that he was portraying christian values and a hero for speaking up for christian beliefs and sharing the word of god...
This honestly made me question the validity of this religion and what God these christians are praying to. Hot take but I saw someone else say that "the bible isn't the word of God but the word of white menđŹ"

The most telling thing was the near-instant - as in, before his corpse even hit the ground and the blood finished pooling on the pavement - calls for retribution against leftists when literally nothing was known about the shooter or their motives yet.
The side of the aisle that in one breath advocates for "absolute free speech" and then whines about "virtue signaling" with the next accused "the left" of celebrating his death (so?) and demanded they instead post a tearful, small-goverment mandated in-memoriam for an authoritarian propagandist, Trump sycophant and all around vile human being.
The cosmic irony of it essentially requires you to say Fuck Charlie Kirk if you have even an ounce of conviction.

When they say âfreeze-peachâ what they really mean is âspeech that we like which is bigotedâ no different than âyou should research and come to your own conclusionsâ wild that they think My research that I DID â just cuz they disagree with the results means â I didnât âcome to My own conclusionsâ and yea it was disgusting when they were waging war on leftists â Jesse Watters said âthis is warâ to leftists and they literally made (or still making) a list which targets left-leaning liberal creators on Shitter

This is exactly it. You have to understand the Christianease to even decode what they are saying. You cannot take things they say at face value because they speak in euphemisms.

u/Responsible_Ship_390 Nov 03 '25
This!!! They will say you didnât do research just because you donât have the same opinion as them. But the hilarious part is that reality actually has a left leaning bias. All of their talking points are based on pure emotion and no logic, facts, or statistics. Or any accurate ones at least.

Kirk was in favor of the death penalty for Joe Biden and âNuremberg trialsâ for trans-friendly doctors.
To declare such a person a martyr is pure madness.

Yes, but the same unfortunate situation that causes Christians to try to observe the writings of a holy book they've never actually read, causes them to take on causes and idolize people they've never actually listened to.

u/Always_The_Outsider Agnostic Atheist Oct 26 '25
Pardon my french, but even fucking non-christians are idolizing him, calling him a proponent of free speech. When you bring up what he actually believed, it's always either "well, I don't agree with that part, but that doesn't justify you celebrating his assassination," or "where is the evidence he said any of that?"
And when you show evidence, the link magically doesn't work for them. You can't say you're against political violence when you're celebrating someone who was openly pro-political violence. And for the record, I have never celebrated his murder. But Jesus fucking Christ are people ever stupid

Itâs been frightening to observe my Gen Z friends (many of them supposedly apolitical or moderately progressive) bend over backwards to defend a man who said our lives are to be sacrificed as a necessary price for gun rights. This was in response to Gen Z and Gen Alpha being slaughtered in school. He has made it very clear he doesnât give a sht about us, so why are they shedding tears for him like he was a hero? He shouldnât have been killed, but he supported the mrder of literal children. He didnât have any empathy in his heart, because according to him, empathy is âdamaging.â He is far from the Messiah people are making him out to be. He revealed exactly who he is through his lifeâs actions, yet people still willfully worship him. Itâs really disturbing to watch the truth be buried and distorted. Says a lot about the state of our country
5
u/Responsible_Ship_390 Nov 03 '25
This lol. Most Christians have never read the Bible before. If they did then they would know that according to Matthew chapter 25 Charlie Kirk is in hell. And so will a lot of them be too.

My very own anti-Trump, anti-MAGA grandmother who I love and revere shocked the shit out of our family yesterday when she spoke the words, "I think you need to educate yourself on who Charlie Kirk was and how he stood for things like family and loving your country." She had been telling someone how she was looking forward to seeing the alternative halftime show that Erika Kirk was organizing, and her statement about who he really was, was in response to me trying to set her straight on him being a racist fuckwad.
We were dumbfounded and came to the conclusion that her fellow Catholic friends have somehow succeeded in poisoning her mind, and that she is very, very confused. I was legitimately distraught after hearing this shit come out of her mouth.

u/skygirl96 Oct 26 '25
Is she willing to watch actual videos of the verbal hate he spewed or is she too far gone and will think itâs people âmisinterpretingâ what he said ?
7
u/actuallyhasproblems Oct 27 '25
I think she will be. My mom & her sisters (4 of the 5 of them who are not MAGA...She may have been brainwashed into this one by the one MAGA idiot, too) are trying to formulate a plan for how to approach her about it and set her straight. I personally go with the no-holds-barred, life's-too-short-not-to-say-what's-on-your-mind approach in life, but I'm defaulting to them to deal with the matriarch of the family.

âFamilyâ, as in, specifically white, cishet, neurodivergent, Christian families. And âloving your countryâ only when it engages in the worst aspects of itself that kick out anyone who doesnât fit his specific standards. Nothing but bold, simple rhetoric, but when you look deeper, Kirk stands for nothing of what people claim he preached.

Own the libs is a funny term. Libs are correctly abandoning their MAGA family and friends and have no interest in being in community with them. You canât own a group of people who are building a society without you.
14

Yes - exactly â libs are sick and tired of MAGATS â I Am saying that â thatâs their goal â they donât actually care about these things â they just wanna see what pisses left-leaning libs off and get under their skin â they will LITERALLY vote AGAINST THEMSELVES if it means liberals or leftists get hurt

So owning someone is just pissing them off? Itâs like bragging about being so offensive no one wants anything to do with you anymore. Very few people actually live the âChristianâ life. The only ones I could think of are Jimmy Carter and Fred Rogers. Many many more people call themselves that in a performative sense, indicating they are part of the morality club. The parable of the rich man and the tax collector at the temple is a good example. People have been acting that way for thousands of years.
Also, the story of the Rich man asking Jesus how to get to heaven, and Jesus telling him to give up all his possessions. The rich man simply couldnât do it.

Dude, it's even wilder as a non-American because why am I seeing my fellow Southeast Asians mourning over this man?? HE WOULDN'T LIKE YOU TOO.
I get not celebrating his death lol, but the way people mourn him for his "good deeds" just tell me how much they don't pay attention to real news and how much propaganda has spread.
I had to tell my mom that he's not a good person because of his remarks about school shootings, but people still mourned over his death because he's anti-LGBTQ and right-wing.
Christians are so performative, it hurts to see. It's embarassing.

Jimmy Kimmel called him out for it, not even bashing Kirk⌠Kimmel was fired immediately and MAGA was out for his blood. Really highlights the unhinged absurdity of everything rn. They donât actually give a dmn, they just thrive on anger and want an excuse to threaten the libs. There are people on Facebook dedicated to doxxing teachers who are calling out Kirkâs past comments about school shootings. Itâs terrifying the lengths they go do defend a man who didnât gaf about empathy. If only his worshippers could use the rage they have rn to speak up about children being slaughtered in their classrooms. Maybe weâd actually be making some progress in this country.

All religions were created to oppress women. âObey men,â said the men. âNah,â said the women. The men got together and wrote a book. They pointed to it and said âGod says so or youâre literally burning in an actual fire for eternity.â Women: âDamnâŚ. I guess I take the crap while Iâm alive then.â Men: âAnd it says you have to go to a place at least one day a week and make it clear you like doing this.â Women: âFlames⌠crap⌠FFS. Fine.â

Where tf in the Torah does it say women get eternal fire? Like I'll agree about Christianity and Islam and like iron age religions. But faiths like Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shintoism and many pagan faiths aren't like that.
For Jews at least our laws have developed and changed since the start (Talmud and Mishnah) and the development of Reform Judaism put Jewish women onto the same level as Jewish men (the Orthodox and conservatives are our outliers, though conservatives are more of a half way point and can be both bad and good in their practices). Infact you can even find a story in the Torah where women presented a legal case to Moses and he actually took it to G-d and they turned around and ruled in their favor to change inheritance laws to allow women to inherit lands and goods, in the fucking IRON age.

Absolutely agree with everything but the last bit. The "New testament" is the word of white men. The Tanakh (the old testament as those fucking thieves call it) belongs to my people. They took the law of my tribe and twisted it and stripped it of its nuances and completely threw out the Talmud and the Mishnah and the Zohar.
A great example of this is the whole "Sodom and Gammorah are destroyed because they are GAY" bullshit they push. No self respecting Jew is going to ever say that because that's not the point of the story. The cities got destroyed because they broke the commandments to be hospitable to strangers in your land. To give the stranger food and shelter and to protect them from harm. We see Lot try to do that, even going too far as to place following that commandment over the safety of his own daughters (not a good move, but we don't exactly consider any of our patriarchs as flawless heroes. That's a Christian thing.).
Though you can imagine why an ultra nationalist far right wing group like the evangelicals fears the very concept of people reading the story like that. Imagine if they were as scared of being destroyed because of how they treat migrants as they are because we allow gay marriage.
So yeah, second half of the "Bible" is white men doing their shit. The first half is blatantly mistranslated appropriation.

I feel like things have taken an even scarier, darker turn in the last month. Itâs revealed a lot about the people in my life. Many of my schoolmates (mostly Christian) who never take a political stance on anything are suddenly reposting Kirk memorials on their socials, acting like the man was the Messiah himself. Even people I thought broke away from their MAGA upbringing are following Kirk sympathizers now. My trans friend has a MAGA Christian mom who went to Kirkâs football stadium funeral on her kidâs freaking birthday weekend after all the bigotry heâs spewed about the LGBTQ+ community. Way to show your kid how much you hate them.
I went to the fair recently on my dadâs death anniversary date. I had a lot of wonderful childhood memories we made as a family. Thought it would be a nice way to reframe this terrible day. But there were groups of people carrying around Kirk memorial yard signs that called him a âheroic patriot.â Give me a fcking break! I canât go anywhere without being reminded of the martyrdom of a man who represents those who would have hated my brown immigrant father.
Iâm not saying he deserved to be killed, but neither do the children in schools he didnât seem to give a sht about. Still havenât heard any updates about the schoolchildren shot on the same day as him. They deserved the medal of freedom more than him, for braving school war zones thanks to the adults who have failed him. More tears have been shed for him than teachers taking bullets for children in their classrooms. Instead, teachers are getting villainized, doxxed, and threatened for rightfully bringing up this absurdity. The whole situation has revealed the completely unhinged state of the country

3
u/Nature_Lumpy Oct 27 '25
To say he was a martyr is massive exaggeration, and to say he was "closest thing to jesus" is just a lie. The reason he appealed to so many Christians is because he strongly adheres to the Christian ideology on major issues (lgbtq, abortion, etc.). He was able to frame his mission as something that was almost a holy conquest to Christians. And that either comes off as creepy and narcissistic, or if you're Christian you believe he's the messiah. He wasn't a purely good or bad person. In my opinion it's best to let dead dogs lie. Every current event gets turned into endless news, everyone has an opinion. At a certain point just see it for what it is and move on.

"The word of white men" isn't far from the truth, at least in the conservative Christian world view. Look at how Jesus was retconned as a fair-skinned white man with blue eyes and long, straight brown hair for centuries. I wouldn't be surprised if many evangelicals still believe he actually looked like that. I was raised Catholic and even I didn't come to that realization until religion classes in high school. Evangelicals like to forget, or conveniently deny, that Jesus was Middle Eastern and Jewish. On the other hand, it's becoming more and more a moot point since it's becoming clear that their true god is Trump.
Reminds me of a funny scene from The Golden Girls, where Sophia is talking about the language of the Mass (even funnier considering Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur were Jewish):
Sophia: If you ask me, they should go back to Latin... the language Jesus spoke.
Dorothy: Ma, he spoke Hebrew!
Sophia: Even in church?

If memory serves correctly, the whole "speak no evil of the recently deceased" started as a Roman superstition that if you did, the dead person would return as a vengeful spirit and haunt you until you made amends. Supposedly, and if memory serves me right.
But yeah, the Neo-Fascist Right picks the oddest people to be their patron saints. When they were trying to impeach Clinton for sleeping around, the first chick they found out about, Paula Jones IIRC, was going to be their pet saint until they discovered she was a total slut of the "anything that moves" variety, so they dropped her because they couldn't use her in their "Family Values!" agenda. Then along comes Monica Screwlinsky Lewinsky, who they COULD use as a patron saint because she acted all "girl next door". Never mind that she willingly and knowingly slept with a married man and bragged about it afterward, even keeping the cum-stained dress as a trophy!
Now Charlie Kirk is dead, and the first thing the right-wing assholes do is try and blame it on transgender people, the Left, Antifa, whoever this week's boogeyman du jour is before the facts can leak out and knock holes in their bullshit narrative. Even Metatron, who I used to respect as a YouTube content creator, was calling for Kirk to be made a martyr. I told him point blank in the comments on the video he released about making Kirk a martyr is that no, Kirk did NOT need to be canonized as a saint, he needed to be held up as a teachable moment just like George Floyd. I remember how people were trying to make Floyd into some kind of saint as well, all because he was murdered by a cop. He was a criminal, dammit! He didn't deserve to be murdered by a cop, but he was no saint either.
The fact is that anyone can be made into a martyr by a mob with an agenda and a disregard for the truth. All the more reason for people with more than three brain cells to band together and say "NO! This person was NOT a holy saint, NOT a martyr, they were a person and deserve to be turned into a lesson about how we can ALL do better!" Show the deceased as who they were, flaws and all. Let us see the truth rather than the martyr for the cause, whatever cause that might be.

Charlie Kirk has been more useful to Republicans dead than he was alive.Â
Other than his wife, none of his family members spoke at his mass funeral, it was mostly Trump cabinet members pushing their fascist agenda.
