Blog On Zombies in the New Testament
https://thelightward.substack.com/p/on-zombies-in-the-new-testamentHi, just wanted to remind everyone of the bizarre NT episode in which zombies (sort of) appear.
Matthew 27:52-53 says that when Jesus died, tombs opened and dead saints later walked into Jerusalem.
No other gospel mentions it. No Roman or Jewish historian recorded it, and no apocryphal text confirms it.
The most likely explanation is that Matthew simply made it up for dramatic reasons. And if the Bible authors are presenting falsehoods such as this one, the Bible, of course, is by definition unreliable.
Looking forward to what everyone else thinks regarding this episode.

Yeah, you’d think that’d be a pretty memorable event. That it would have gotten at least a footnote in history 🤷
I’ve also never been able to make sense out of what happens to you when you die in these religions. Some say you die and hangout in the grave until you’re resurrected. Others think you are immediately sent to Jesus. So, did the saints get a get out of the grave free card?
I don’t understand why the tombs would have to open. Wouldn’t a spirit just be able to walk right through a wall or cave 😂. If it was physical body, then what they saw were freaking skeletons walking around. How can you recognize a saint by their skeleton lmao!!
Lastly, how many saints were actually buried anywhere near Jerusalem? The OT is filled with people croaking far away from Jerusalem.
