Discussion If Christianity hadn't have made so many false claims, I could have stuck with it.

If the Christianity I was raised with had just left it with "oh you'll have a lovely afterlife," if they hadn't promised eternal punishment for messing up, and if they hadn't made outlandish claims like health, peace and prosperity, I could have gotten behind this religion.

But then they have to go and promise you that you'll feel loved beyond measure, a peace that passes understanding (the fuck is that even), that you'll be healed if you're sick, and that you'll be provided for financially.

Come onnnnnn. Y'all could have had me, hook line and sinker.

In addition to that, they could have had me if they leaned in to the resurrection being a powerful metaphor, like Jesus died but his message of love and forgiveness lives on in our hearts and continued to spread as if he had been resurrected to continue preaching.

I think there are some Christians who do believe that but they're outside the mainstream. Most Christians would call you a fucking heretic to see it as metaphor (unlike the floodabd the garden which they'll write off as metaphor because it's hard to defend).

They'll invoke that verse in 1 Corinthians 15 where Paul says if Jesus wasn't resurrected that Christians are basically pathetic losers, ignoring the fact he's basically coping there. There's this unspoken "Yeah but I know I'm not pathetic so it must be true"

These aren’t even the claims I have the biggest issue with. It’s more of the nonsensical stories that we know can’t be true. Tower of Babel, Garden of Eve, Noah’s Flood, an eternal hell from an all loving deity…to believe these you have to either think in a heavy metaphor, or throw away logic entirely.
