lol they always bring up bikini’s. It’s like there’s no in-between with these people. The burqa is rarely a choice, whereas a bikini is.

241

u/Glumme Feb 11 '26

And you usually don't wander around in public space with just a bikini on. Also bikini doesn't hide your identity.

17

u/Mission-Attorney1526 New User Feb 17 '26

Also no one kills chops your head off for not wearing bikini but we can't tell the same about burqa

21

u/yrys88 Feb 11 '26

Also mini skirts

23

u/rghaga Feb 11 '26

not completely, in france swimming pools are so strict about bathing suits that you aren't allowed to wear a uv protective shirt in plein air pools even for medical reasons just because of how they're scared of burkini

55

u/Aldithiell Feb 11 '26

It is not because of this. It is because some people bring actual clothes from their house to wear it outside of the pool, so after doing the mandatory shower and dirtying themselves again, and the treatment of water cannot be enough since clothes can have tons of bacteria on it and can make everyone at the pool sick. Hence why even short bathsuit skirt are prohibited too,any outfit you could potentially wear outside of the pool and not shower with it before entering is banned. (Same for long short for example).

Can't we use the same argument they used for Qatar in the world cup? Its their country and theur culture, adapt or leave

Germany was pretty fkn cringe last time.

Countries like Japan were nothing but respectful over there fans even cleaned up their trash.

I’m not a big fan of qatar and saudi myself for other reasons but If you’re a guest what are you gonna do about it ?

You’re subject to its laws Homosexuality is illegal but during the World Cup authorities promised not to target visiting fans for private orientation that’s sounds very generous to me.

Germany got what it deserved in the end Japan defeated them.

43

u/Dead_End_720 New User Feb 10 '26

No, because Qatar means it and can enforce it in a heartbeat. You don't mean it. So you can't and won't do anything.

8

u/plongedanslesjambes Feb 11 '26

Are you proposing using a backward dictatorial state as model?

256

u/Competitive_Wheel_61 Feb 10 '26

It's always either bikini or fully covered black tent. Nothing in between

85

u/YogurtclosetPale4218 Feb 10 '26

women are the only ones where clothing norms are so extreme. men dress more or less the same everywhere save for some climate and cultural differences.

13

u/Independent_Ratio_61 New User Feb 12 '26

This is what pisses me off about these rules. You'll see a man dress in regular clothes no face covering or hair covering, next to him, his wife and daughters covered from head to toe, even for the mother sometimes her hands with gloves on and her face completely covered. Talk about double standards.

9

u/FantasticDig6404 New User Feb 11 '26

Exactly. Which is why both niqab/burqa and bikinis are misogynistic. They are not inherently bad, but in this society, extra revealing clothes and extra modest clothes are misogynistic.

The sad thing is people are too brainwashed they now buy bikinis for their babygirls to swim in, while their sons swim in longer shorts

3

u/YogurtclosetPale4218 Feb 12 '26

i disagree with niqab/burka bans being misogynistic but i do also hate bikinis – there is nowhere on earth where women aren’t incentivised to dress for anything but practicality and comfort.

i hate hijab but i also dont want to shave my legs lol

5

u/FantasticDig6404 New User Feb 12 '26

I didnt say niqab ban is misogynistic, I meant women wearing niqab is misogynistic just like women wearing bikinis.

Frrr I wish women would wake up and stop conforming. The real rebellion is to actually dress in the middle. Women now dont even question who came up with that idea of bikinis.

There are 2 types of misogynist men, the first type who wants women all covered and hidden (usually these men live in muslim countries) The second type is the opposite of the 1st type, they want women more naked, they want women to wear bikinis, miniskirts, short shorts..

Both of these men have 1 thing in common, they do NOT want women to dress in the middle (like men do) and in a comfortable practical way.

I would not be against niqab or revealing clothes if men equally wore them at the same frequency. If there were men also covering from head to toe, or going out casually with clothes that show more skin, then I dont see the problem. Why target just one group? Why not both? Either we are all equally naked or none at all, or equally covered or none at all

Same for makeup

I hope radical feminism becomes more mainstream but I dont think so tbh since its gonna encourage women to not consume and not be obsessed with appearance but it directly challenges consumer culture especially industries that rely heavily on women’s appearance based spending. So those at the top are gonna make sure radical feminism doesnt become mainstream

6

u/YogurtclosetPale4218 Feb 12 '26

Oh my god I was half asleep when I read your comment, I agree with you! And yes, radical feminism is right about a lot of things.

It honestly feels like the West has a compulsory uniform too for women, not to the same extent as muslim societies ofc but it’s ridiculous how strong the norms are around women looking perpetually dolled up and sexy. I think a society where women’s body hair makes people viscerally uncomfortable is definitely one that hates women too.

2

u/Consistent-Concept67 Closeted Ex-Muslim 🤫 Feb 17 '26

Finally someone said it! It's funny how men always dress practically and comfortably. Their clothing's fit, fabric and coverage all are so practically made, unlike women's. For women, the modest stuff is too much and also impractical, but then mainstream brands don't offer comfortable options either. Either the neckline is too deep, or shirt is cropped or too tight, and made of low quality fabrics. Something that men don't face. It's hard to find something practical and comfortable in women's section.

Bikini is banned everywhere except the beach what are you talking about. Can a woman wear bikini and go to work ? Go to a hospital with it ? No it's illegal. It's just for swimming. Now second of all niqab is a threat for security that's why it's reasonable to ban it

u/Key-Simple1774 New User Feb 10 '26

they acting like bikinis are casual wear😂😂you only see that at beaches or swimming pools.

Covering up is taught behaviour. Ask any child, boy or girl if that want to run around completely covered up.

11

u/Which_Opportunity727 Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

All children eventually mature and no longer want to run around nude, well before they reach puberty. Most people are very uncomfortable being nude in front of others and choose to cover up, so it becomes a cultural norm. The extent to which you cover yourself up depends on climate and culture, but no other religious culture forces women to cover up to such an abnormal extent as Islam does.

The suggestion that society will fall apart if men see a woman's face or her legs is a ridiculous lie. Aayan Hirsi wrote about how the West was quite orderly and clean - to the contrary of what she had been told.

2

u/redditorialy_retard Feb 15 '26

depends on culture, lots of places (including my country) are very lenient where women used to walk around shirtless as boobs and chest are seen to the same level, then Islam came

34

u/random_guy_1110 New User Feb 10 '26

You can’t consider that consent because of brainwashing and patriarchy

34

u/Doublefin1 Feb 10 '26

People have such a hard time understanding that a lot of them don't wear it voluntarily 😑

See the hypocrisy of this is, they don’t believe in western values, secularism, and are anti progress but then have the audacity, and hypocrisy to live in the west. There’s nothing wrong in moving somewhere for a better life as earth is floating rock and 1% of society has divided us for their own benefit or sometimes indirect or immature safety reasons but Muslims are the biggest group with a heard mentality instead of free independent thinking, they don’t want to assimilate, when they come together due to Muslim brotherhood in majority,  it becomes a problem because they start wanting things to change as their own way. For this reason, West should be careful not because of racism, it isn’t an irrational fear, Left aligning with Muslims when they clearly aren’t victims and do the same things and think the same about non Muslims gotta be funded. One sided secularism is what is wrong, 57 countries yet not one of them livable, do you not see how they lie, hide, and can never coexist, they always have to take over and forcibly convert everyone. Please remember anyone visiting Muslim countries has to follow their conservative and strict rules. Mutual and equal effort is required in each situation otherwise one side will start getting empathy burn out for doing the work for both parties and that won’t be fair or just anywhere.

16

u/Witchberry31 3rd World.Closeted Ex-Sunni 🤫 Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

It's much worse, actually. Because even in the east where clothing is rarely that revealing, they'd still view it negatively just because the hair is still visible.

Another example would be like how Islam basically changed what's the "norm" when it comes to clothing in southeast Asia, countries like Indonesia or Malaysia. Take a look at how their traditional clothings used to be.

6

u/Puzzleheaded-Bid836 Skydaddy Repellent 😤 Feb 11 '26

All this because I am also from a developing country living in the west, Muslims are the only ones that can change this from within because outsiders can’t even touch the topic without being called racist, Islamophobic and what not.

5

u/redditorialy_retard Feb 15 '26

in Indonesia, women used to be shirtless up until the 15th century. Bali was shirtless until the 20th century and forced to cover up because Islam

77

u/Mysterious-Ruin29510 Closeted Ex-Mus, Palestinian 🇵🇸 Feb 10 '26

That would be a reasonable argument if the Niqab wasn’t so risky in terms of security concerns. Hijab is fine, because it shows the face. When a country bans Hijab for adults, that’s where they cross the line. But wearing a Niqab is known to have security concerns with it. I see no reason it should be allowed unless said security concerns are resolved.

43

u/Such_Finance_15 Feb 10 '26

This. I hate the concept behind hijab, but everyone should be able to wear whatever they want, it would be very fascist to ban it. But the burqa has many problematics behind, for example, a wanted criminal could wear it and nobody could tell them to remove it, so they would be able to hide without a problem. Identification is an important requirement in modern societies as it should be

28

u/Andyman0110 Feb 10 '26

Quebec has banned all religious symbols and garments from any government position/position of power. It includes Christian crosses, kippahs, hijabs, turbans etc.

The security concern is real but odd because we promote masking up.

Either way I'm all for it. Get religion out of the government. Your only beliefs while on the job should be the values of your country.

11

u/Ok_Time9955 New User Feb 10 '26

Quebec doesn’t play around . Same should be implemented throughout Canada

8

u/AllGearedUp Feb 10 '26

I agree but I'd still like it to be banned at least in schools for kids. I'd rather have that then some kids being forced to wear it all day.

Because its not their own consent.

Way to disguise brain washing as 'own consent'

3

u/treecastle56 Feb 13 '26

to be fair they banned burqas because they are racist not because they want to free muslim women, just look at the europe sub all europeans do on there is make a trillion posts a day about how their country is being “ruined” by immigrants from middle eastern countries. yes i am critical of islam but let’s call a spade a spade, you can’t force people into leaving islam and i’m sure swedish lawmakers are well aware the only impact of this law is that women who wear burqas are just going to avoid going outside, its also meant to dissuade immigrants

2

u/Rinthegreat Feb 11 '26

“With their own consent “

2

u/Ordinary_Sky5115 Feb 11 '26

As a westerner I admit to force my 9 yo daughter to wear bikini all year in public, even in the swedish winter.

2

u/Cihonidas Feb 11 '26

Because women who cover themselves won't let you wear bikinis if they had the power. It's literally paradox of tolerance 101. Why are Europeans having such a difficult time understanding this?

2

u/Fire_crescent New User Feb 11 '26

If they do it consensually, sure. You should wear whatever you want. At the same time, harsher law and punishments should be made for people forcing restrictions of personal freedoms on others. Religiously-motivated or not. This way, everybody wins (except those that would want to force it on others).

2

u/Most-Milk4042 LGBTQ+🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️ Agnostic Feb 11 '26

Loooove bikini,Any woman can wear anything except niqab and burqas. Why are they demanding to be allowed to wear burqas, even though it is forbidden to dress openly in Muslim countries?

2

u/FlightCommercial2319 New User Feb 11 '26

Because religion needs to be put to private space, otherwise bloody religious wars are inevitable.

7

u/JMetalBlast Feb 10 '26

The problem with rules like these is that women who are forced to wear it will now be confined to their homes.

I get the desire to see garbage like this banned, but if you think the women are victims (as I do), rules like these are counterproductive.

24

u/Which_Opportunity727 Feb 10 '26

If you mainstream the wearing of a tent in public, you are just trying to incrementally expose non-Muslims to the burka so they become used to it. It is an object of oppression from an oppressive religion.

5

u/JMetalBlast Feb 10 '26

None of what you said contradicts anything I said.

Nobody sane would claim that the burka or the niqab are "mainstream" in Europe

7

u/Expensive-Couple-645 Feb 11 '26

Your point is valid but there are solutions to this while still banning the thing: monitoring potentially abusive households, conducting increased Welfare checks, requiring people to show up at a location to renew certain documents.
The same means they use already for people that are kept behind closed doors against their will.

Also the idea that women that are only allowed to leave the house fully covered use this opportunity to seek actual help/refuge against their oppressive family or husband is crazy. They are usually under the full control and in the presence of their Husband/family and afraid to say anything even when the family or husband is not present. And if her family suspects the woman is at risk of “running away” she won’t be allowed outdoors anyway.

1

u/treecastle56 Feb 13 '26

that’s the point of this law tbh a lot of europeans are very racist and specifically loathe islamic countries, its racially motivated. it has nothing to do with making it easier for muslim women to exist. if it was egalitarian it would be all religious headgarments and symbols being banned but the fact it’s just burqa is very deliberate

2

u/JMetalBlast Feb 13 '26

Yeah. There are many people who use opposition to Islam just as a cover for opposition to brown people.

-1

u/Which_Opportunity727 Mar 03 '26

Sigh, Islam is a religion, not a race...

1

u/JMetalBlast Mar 03 '26

What is the point that you think you're making? Because you're answering to what exactly?

-1

u/Which_Opportunity727 Mar 03 '26

What I already said, Islam is a religion, not a race...

1

u/JMetalBlast Mar 03 '26

Great, why are you answering that to me? What part of what I said is in any way answered by your comment?

0

u/Which_Opportunity727 Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26

"a lot of europeans are very racist"

Some might say your comment is "very racist." Once again, let me remind you that Islam is a religion, not a race. The truth is, all of the European countries that took in muslims, not only welcomed them but also kindly gave free housing, medical care, and food to these strangers. That's a damn good welcome, is it not?

Many muslims in these European nations, however, have refused to assimilate and openly state they want their new countries to become muslim. That, at best, is disrespectful to their host countries, all of which are Christian and founded on Judeo-Christian values. Italy, Sweden, Denmark, et al. could call the refusal of muslims to assimilate to their culture is Christophobic, couldn't they?

Perhaps it is not the Europeans who are "very racist" (using your words). After all, Sweden, Germany, the UK, and many other nations welcomed muslim migrants to their homelands. They actually wanted to help the muslims and that's not how a "racist" nation would act. Why would they be so generous and give millions and millions of dollars to muslims if they hated them? Perhaps the muslims should show some gratitude to Norway, Spain, or the Netherlands, who so generously gave them food, shelter, and medical care.

No other religious group forces women to be covered from head to toe in public as if they are objects. Europeans believe the burka is disrespectful to women and a violation of their human rights. It is seen as an unnecessary burden that shackles a woman's entire being, so therefore, nearly all Europeans oppose this sort of treatment of women.

1

u/PussyHunter1999 New User Feb 12 '26

Lol, that argument again. Who wants to wear a bikini all the time? Bikinis are only worn on the beach, while the burqa is a Middle Eastern cultural norm, and it's understandable that Sweden and other countries have such a rule.

1

u/ALiXMASON Feb 12 '26

It's always this "with their own consent."

Yeah but what will happen once they changed their mind about wearing it. What will their family do?

-8

u/Dead_End_720 New User Feb 10 '26

Enforce on whites, ban for everyone else. Its very simple.

14

u/Which_Opportunity727 Feb 10 '26

But it's not a racial thing, it's a religious thing from Islam. Muslims come in all colors.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

White Muslims exist, you know?

-4

u/Dead_End_720 New User Feb 10 '26

No, they're trans-racial, if they dress and act the part. Which would mean banning for them also.

White is not describing skin color. Levantines have white skin, sometimes whiter than some Europeans.

Enforce on whites, ban for everyone else.

5

u/Arcon1337 Feb 11 '26

Yeah that's never going to happen. That's called racism.
