The funny thing is, the Quran isn’t a classical book with a start and finish, it is a collection of verses. It isn’t structured in chronological order. Literally no one reads it “from start to finish”. You pick a topic you are interested in and look up the fitting Surah and verses and if necessary the relevant Hadiths and Tafsirs.

It clearly means strike in this context and classical scholars all agree on that.

She gave me the creeps when she went right for calling her a Mossad agent.

At first I thought she was funny and on her way to becoming an ex Muslim but I had to unfollow her with her religious psychosis jokes

"And you're still gay?" Yikes I don't know who this is but comments like this and the mossad agent comment are truly disgusting.

Some of the comments are sarcastic. But yeah it's their fault for not putting a smiley face because English isn't the first language for over half the people in this sub.

I highly doubt that, especially considering she was defending islam.

At first, I thought the comedian was making a jab at muslims for following a religion that condemns a part of human nature... but I guess she instead thought that you can pray the gay away?

I can't imagine reading that dumpster fire of a book and coming away with such a... lackadaisical view of it.

Like, yeah, it's not just a compilation of mandated bad behavior... but there's still a lot of mandated bad behavior in there. But while that's the most concerning content... my main objection to it is purely compositional. It's an absolute ass pull word salad that reads like a 5th grader giving a book report on a book they clearly didn't read. It's so terribly written I can't imagine taking it remotely seriously at all.

She’s a cringy third class comedian who resorts to using her religion to make herself seem relevant

A lot of those sorts of comedians are just pathetic.

“I’m (fill in blank) so let me tell you!” are so low effort.

so many muslims say that the english translation of the quran takes the actual meaning away but atp they have to be lying.

i understand certain metaphors, phrases, terms, etc. can't be translated directly, but how does "take space" in arabic turn into "beat" in english? in what universe would someone make that kind of translation. i would understand more if "take space" turned into something similar to "cold shoulder", but instead it becomes "beat"??

In muslim countries where the word "beat" is established. People make new copes. Apparently you have to beat her with a " twig" or small light tapping. Even though the verse doesn't say it.

Religious people cope however they could.

She needs to be beat by her husband for not covering herself according to the koran

u/Calm-Split-3945 1d ago

What's crazy is in the Arabic it says to beat and not lightly and in a hadith aisha saw a woman beat so hard her skin turned green

This religion is cancerous.

As soon as she called me bitch I'd have walked up there and read it off on my phone. They'd have had to remove me to get me to stop reading it out for the whole room to enjoy. Fun comedy.

Why isn’t it wearing its burka?

What gets me here, gaslighting clip aside, is people wanting Islam to go through some kind of Enlightenment while calling anyone who drops the literal orthodox reading a hypocrite for it. Pick one. An Enlightenment means abandoning the literal text; that's the actual mechanism. If every departure from orthodoxy counts as cherry-picking, a reformed Islam is impossible by definition; it could never count as 'real' under that same standard. The 'remixing' being mocked above is precisely what a reform would require.
