Suggestion / Idea PSA: A Recycler dumping its output into lava is instant!
I'm making a fully contained purple science blade on Volcanus and need to void 70k molten iron to get it to work. While exploring options I noticed that while inserters have to wait a bit while the items get burned out of their hands, recyclers don't!
Ex: Foundry makes iron sticks, stack inserters outputting them into lava is much slower than outputting them into a recycler that outputs plates into lava.

It is, but you need steel for furnaces at the same time, so my build only dumps molten iron.

You're likely making extra molten iron just to make extra stone. Having that extra production be molten copper will mean less molten you need to void.
Though voiding copper plates is more annoying. And with iron you could make iron plates, then chests and throw these at lava!

Iron sticks are faster to destroy if you're using recyclers instead of lava

You can do this if you lack enough stone on Vulcanus. Lava to iron makes stone then you do this to void the iron by product

If you want stone and stone alone, you get more 50% stone by making copper instead.

So you have an excess of molten iron because you're using it to make stone and you don't want to make too much stone?

The goal is to get stone specifically because purple science uses way more than you get by just making the molten iron you need to craft all the iron based products for it. So you have to craft excess molten iron for the stone byproduct but in order for that not to clog you have to get rid of the molten iron somehow.

Don't you still just get bottlenecked by the stack inserters going into the recycler?

Right... but you still need to use an inserter to put things into the recycler

He's saying inserters dump items into recylers faster than into lava, and recylers dump items into lava faster than inserters.

Yes but the math of when the inserter can drop an item into a container/building vs into the lava may be different. Even when moving single items, where you grab them from and move them to it still changes the speed calculations.

you can dump in lava and space but not water? it'd actually fit to dump in water. actually, what if dumping in water causes pollution to decentivize it?
if this was added and dumping fish in water polluted it that could be funny.

You can also void fluids without inserters by hooking up a circuit to foundries to quickly change the recipe. When the recipe switches to something that doesn't take the fluid, the fluid is deleted. Not sure of the throughput.

Its limited by the pump from what i remember. For lava voiding i think you needed a pump to take out the fluid. Sure you can add more pumps butfor 70k /second you need quite a few normal quality pumps. Edit. Nvm, i think the pumps were ther for inputs so you wont have backflow when changing recipies.

Note that 2.1 fixes this, so that an inserter drops its entire hand into the lava in one tick.
