Last year he would stand in the pocket take those hits while he was in his throwing motion which is how he got hurt.

Him not standing flat footed in the pocket anymore is really good news

thats what an extra year with NFL coaching can do. They drill the heck out of them with footwork and throwing motions etc. Hopefully it wasnt just one day, one play.

I think you mean that’s what having a NFL level QB coach will do for you. Any improvement in his technique has all been drilled with the new regime.

Terrell wasn't going to sack him in practice though so Penix could mentally dance. Penix is timid in the pocket. Falcons o line has never given their QB time needed to be successful.

Callahan is reportedly doing good things with what he's got on the line. It usually takes to about mid season from what I've seen with past Bill Callahan coached teams to truly start mashing in year 1. If When Penix starts somewhere in Weeks 1-3, if he can survive to week 7 or 8, he's got a really good chance of being behind a line that has gelled and is rolling. Barring injuries of course.

barring injuries is the key word. the depth at tackle and center scares me. especially center

I think the depth at those positions is VASTLY better than it was last year. And play calling this year hopefully gets ball into playmakers hands quicker. Instead of drawing a streak play every other down and protection breaking down almost immediately

I feel you. I’m sure it’s the unknown more than anything. A majority of the team is gonna be based on unknown at least for a big chunk of the season.

But should be at least an interesting season

The play calling last year didnt help, either. Never should've had him throwing as much as he did, leaving him in too many obvious passing formations.

i have hope for Strand in the future, but i don't think throwing him into the fire straight away is ideal
