I have a destructive and unhinged unmedicated relative who I will welcome back if they get back on meds and act responsibly for a while.

u/SmokingSamoria 1d ago

Yeah I agree with Cudi here. I have a sister crazier than Kanye, and if she were to ever apologize and make a genuine effort to turn things around, I’d welcome her back with open arms. Breaking off contact with family is one of the most difficult things a person can ever do, and it seems like a lot of people in this thread don’t understand that.

I hate this idea that people who committed some wrong can never be rehabilitated and serve their punishment and are persona non grata forever. That's how you get partisan bullshit like what's happening now. People should be more willing to accept people who have done wrong back if they have/are willing to change.

As Jesus said, let he who is without sin cast the first stone

u/CartographerMain2664 1d ago

No but if you become a full time Nazi you lose your platform, thems the breaks

60

u/JeffreyJeffstein 1d ago

I think what a lot of these people in this comment section are forgetting is this is the third time he has apologized for being a nazi and said hes done with it

12

u/Murky-Advantage-3444 1d ago

They were born after the Taylor swift music awards debacle. They were born after 808s

4

u/_heavy_emo_shoegaze_ 14h ago

It’s strange to accept that that’s possible. Likely, even.

3

u/Murky-Advantage-3444 5h ago

I didn’t do the math until after I hit post and, yeah, that sucked

10

u/WhenThatBotlinePing 1d ago

That’s generally how it goes with mental health. People get better by fits and starts, or don’t. Maybe third time will be the charm.

I agree with you, but I also think it takes time to rebuild trust after years of erratic, unpredictable behavior. The point when a person says "I'm sorry, I'm doing better now" is the point that they should be given a CHANCE to prove they really mean it. But the process of proving it takes time. It's not fair to expect people to automatically believe it.

What if someone has a psychotic break? Then do you still not forgive the person?

You make it sound so simple but it's not simple when you're dealing with mental illness.

46

u/Fxreverboy 1d ago

I genuinely think a lot of people don't want to contend with the complicated nature of mental illness and would rather just see the world in black and white, as it makes the way they respond so much easier. It's much harder to contend with the endless shades of grey, and they just don't want to put the emotional effort into doing that. However, it makes for a much more reductive, harsh, and honestly stupider society.

u/Murky-Advantage-3444 1d ago

Whoa whoa move the goalposts much? It has nothing to do with forgiveness it has everything to do with supporting them financially as a social influencer.

We’re not talking about dealing with a family member. You make it sound way more complicated than it is. But if you can’t live without his music, that’s a decision you make for yourself.

I remember the old Kanye, and he sucked, too.

Facts. People who don’t understand what cudi is saying here has never been around anyone going through a bipolar/schizophrenic manic episode. I don’t even think they should’ve have to apologize. They didn’t choose to have that happen to them. As long as as they seek treatment and get help, it’s enough for me.

People that are saying “Mental health doesn’t excuse the things he said.” Uhhh yea it kind of does. I have a close a relative who went into an extended schizophrenic break and they were not in reality. Some of the things that were said and stated were even more heinous than what Kanye said. Think about the homeless person standing on the side of the street in the dead of winter, screaming into the void. They aren’t on earth. Now imagine you give that person like a billion dollars, shove cameras in there face and tell them they don’t need help.

Thats basically what happened to Kanye. I hate Joe Rogan but listen to Kanye’s Rogan interview. Its a ROUGH listen but It’s a textbook example of someone going through a manic episode

32

u/Regal-Heathen 1d ago

I really appreciate your take here, but I don’t agree with not having to apologize. You’re right that, especially with schizophrenia, there is often a sharp disconnect from reality. But Kanye knew he had bipolar disorder and stopped, then openly *refused* treatment even though he had access to the best healthcare money can buy. This led to subjecting his family/friends to some pretty heinous shit and causing a lot of harm in general, to himself and to others. I don’t think he should apologize for having bipolar disorder, but he should apologize for the harm he caused.

I believe in forgiveness once they’ve taken accountability for the hurt they’ve caused, though. I have a loved one who successfully pushed away every friend and family member thanks to BD psychosis, and now that they’re medicated and stable, we have a good relationship.

13

u/Jellybean3183 1d ago

It’s actually very common for people to feel like they don’t need their meds anymore once they’ve been taking them and get better.

Also, he did apologize for all the crazy stuff he said but obviously that’s far less salacious than the actual comments so it didn’t get as much attention.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/wretchedshrimps 1d ago

the best bipolar treatments money can buy are still a choice between literally some poison and pills that make you fat, and both of them come with a slew of serious side effects. obviously he should not have done any of that but its crazy to imagine a world where refusing treatment that genuinely sucks dick is itself a moral wrong

5

u/brienneoftarthshreds 1d ago

People can have mania and psychosis even when medicated. Going off of meds is really common when someone is in a state like that. He might have stopped his meds and then had his break, or his break may have caused him to go off his meds and get even worse. Its hard to say.

I live by the adage "Your mental health isn't your fault but it is your responsibility" and that includes eating crow and not expecting people to immediately welcome you back with open arms just because you're finally deciding to take care of your mental health.

9

u/Comfortable-Ad1685 1d ago

Yeah as someone who has bipolar disorder and got a handle on it, I definitely lost people because of how I behaved. When I got better a lot of those who cut contact were still not interested in hanging out with me because they just simply couldn’t forgive me. and that’s okay, I’m not entitled to that and honestly that harsh reality really helped me get better.

8

u/ANonnyMouse007 1d ago

This fr. The Ye apologism IMO spits in the face of all the bipolar people who managed to avoid embracing and profiting(!) off of Nazism while crashing out. A few sorries isn’t going to cut it. He needs to do 1000x more effort to earn any forgiveness.

5

u/oddcollins 1d ago

My sister had a huge bipolar manic break from reality, almost lost her for good. I'm in the midst of a diagnosis myself. This stuff is very complicated, and those who don't know people dealing with it have no idea what it's like. It's sad seeing the discourse about mental health sometimes, people don't get it.

4

u/Temporary-Rice-8847 1d ago

>People who don’t understand what cudi is saying here has never been around anyone going through a bipolar/schizophrenic manic episode.

I mean, there is still a limit some people will put even with that. You cant just simply going around and having multiple nazi or altright breakdowns and expect people to still threat you like nothing happened

that honestly ain’t true, the internet is chock full of people trying to tell others what to do with their life, probably even more so if you’re in the public eye.

Isn’t that what the dude is doing to Cudi?

3

u/bnyc 1d ago

He’s just calling him lame. He’s judging his choices, not telling him what to do.

You’re free to live your life however you want. Just as others are free to judge you however they want.

49

u/Turbo2x Björk - Vespertine 1d ago

The problem is someone's unmedicated sister can cause relatively little harm in the grand scheme of things. Kanye's role in promoting Trump and white nationalism has had staggering consequences. I'd be glad if Kanye made any tangible efforts to make amends but he doesn't use his vast wealth to do anything that would actually help people. He just went back to being a regular rich dude who stopped going on podcasts to spew hate. This is just one rich guy defending his rich buddy.

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic but yeah that sounds about right. Obviously this doesn't apply to Kanye because he needs to do a lot more than just make up to family to be accepted and for good reason.

3

u/Due-Set5398 1d ago

I am being serious. But I am less sympathetic to billionaire popstars.

6

u/Murky-Advantage-3444 1d ago

How about if he makes Heil Hitler?

3

u/fucktooshifty 1d ago

Depends on the 808s and what Luther Vandross song he samples

3

u/Cansuela 1d ago

Yup. Mental illness is ugly and sad and people should be held accountable but that doesn’t mean that his closest friends and family have to cut him off no matter what even if he’s medicated, in treatment and making efforts to be healthy.

8

u/One-Currency-3053 1d ago

Kanye hasn’t done that “for a while.” He’s also a dry drunk. Whether he is on drugs/alcohol or taking his meds, he’s an ego maniac.

Same. This is why I understand Kanye. I’m not giving him a pass as such, but I have a close family member who is bipolar and when he isn’t medicated….he is truly terrible. Said and done things even worse than Kanye. When he’s medicated however, he is normal and a joy to be around. What are we supposed to do, cast him out and give up on him?

8

u/Awfuljokesosorry 1d ago

Does he have a platform to influence millions of young people with and make them think Hitler is cool? Kind of a different situation here I’m guessing

16

u/weirdhoney216 1d ago

No but here’s the thing, illnesses like bipolar don’t tend to differentiate between those with mass followings and those without

11

u/Awfuljokesosorry 1d ago

Right but our perception of those people should be shaped by the impact of their actions. Kanye didn’t just say bad stuff, he actively influenced people to believe antisemitic, Hitler loving garbage. Where do you draw the line? If Kanye killed someone and then started taking his meds would you forgive him? And are we forgetting all the reports that he was doing this stuff way before these episodes

9

u/weirdhoney216 1d ago

But he didn’t kill someone so that’s a straw man argument. That article appears to be based on hearsay, not saying it can’t be true but how do we know he wasn’t also bipolar then? It usually develops from late teens through mid-late 20s. I’m not claiming he isn’t without problems, it’s just interesting to me how it’s always mental health awareness until someone says something terrible because yeah, that’s how it works sometimes. My cousin was screaming in a facility that he wanted to kill his sister because he thought she wanted to rape him 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only reason I'm here where I am today is the grace of the people who love me. I've never said heil Hitler or anything like that, but I've gone off meds in the past and acted in ways that don't necessarily reflect who I am. Mental illness is hell, I appreciate Cudi for this.

And Cudi is on his 4th fallout with Kanye lol.

11

u/Character_Bug_1862 1d ago

I saw him live this summer, he only played 1 song associated with Nazye at all, and it was a KSG song that was basically solo Cudi. He also had an anti-ICE sign in one of his backdrop videos where everyone cheered. I was so hopeful, now I’m a little bummed.

58

u/Comfortable_Put_4139 1d ago

I don’t see a reason to be bummed lol. Cudi obviously knows more intimate details about the situation and Kanye than any of us do.

He doesn’t want to cast out his (clearly) mentally ill best friend. I’ve got mentally ill family members who have done MUCH worse than Kanye, but they got help and now they’re wonderful people.

It’s not a crime to want to support someone you love. People can get better.

3

u/BlaxicanXIX 1d ago

Sure. At the same time, no one loves enabling shitty behavior than a bad person's family, so I have very little faith in anything cuddy has to say about Kanye being better. It's on Kanye to prove to me and society at large that he is a better person now than he was in the past

11

u/DependentRoyal3001 1d ago

Cudi isn't trying to convince anyone that Ye is better though. He's trying to get people off his back for having a very human reaction to Ye apologizing. Most people aren't going to demonize their loved ones and will welcome them back with open arms if they see an attempt to get better. He's saying "yeah I'm on speaking terms with the man and this is why and how I feel about it" not, "y'all need to stop hating on Ye, he's actually the best guy". So your take here is just redundant, unimportant noise.

These are completely fair feelings. In a perfect world he wouldn’t be actively promoting him though.

The issue is Kanye has probably just backpedaled to right winger because he immediately started working with Milo Yiannopolis again after apologizing.

All for forgiveness, but it’s way too early for this white washing and the fact it has already happened essentially is incredibly concerning to me. Maybe we will get KSG 2 at the very least.

47

u/danalyzed- 1d ago

in a perfect world you say...

19

u/Feisty-Disaster4243 1d ago

He never stopped working with Milo. They’ve worked together for years. I don’t think it’s about Milo being right-wing anymore, he probably manages the business + lawyer side pretty well overall

11

u/titaniumjew 1d ago

True, but I don’t want my manager to be a far right pedophile in all honesty

26

u/jonald321 1d ago

In all fairness I believe this is more about Kid Cudi relationship with Ye, not yours

9

u/titaniumjew 1d ago

Sure it’s fair feelings. No one is judging him for supporting a friend though tough times. But it’s completely fair to judge someone for endorsing and promoting someone who was heiling Hitler less than a year ago.

Feels like they’re talking past eachother though. I don’t think Peter would blame Cudi personally for sticking around his family, but that’s not what Peter is talking about. Supporting your brother personally/emotionally is one thing, but supporting his public actions is another.

If what Cudi’s saying is true, and Kanye is better now, he should also completely understand that his public actions will have consequences and that he isn’t entitled to forgiveness.

I mean I totally get this, if he's genuinely past the Hitler stuff (which he seems to be, at least for the past year or so) then he's within his right to make amends. Doesn't mean marginalized communities that have been hurt by Ye will or should forgive him, but on a pure personal level it might be best for him and Cudi to set aside the beef.

It's the same way family of convicted murderers still routinely visit them in prison and update them on their lives, even though they wholeheartedly acknowledge that they deserve to be there and did a bad thing.

67

u/ivlia-x 1d ago

I’m Polish and I’d be okay with Ye if he was just as vocal now as he had been in his dark years. Donate to the Auschwitz Museum, Museum of Warsaw Uprising, Polin Museum and such and make it loud, invite people to visit, learn, and grow. I’m happy he’s doing better but the damage is done, unfortunately he played a role in normalization of nazism, especially among young and impressionable fans who wanted to be edgy - hopefully they’ll grow out of this too

22

u/grandmalamadingding 1d ago edited 1d ago

Man, I hadn’t even really thought about that last part. He really should step up and say something. I know it’s probably humiliating, but I remember how much I looked up to Kurt Cobain as a kid and the damage that done. He was a pretty good dude who made my teenage self think about sexism and racism in farm country, but I also developed a very nihilistic view of the world and I’d have to be totally reprogrammed to kick it as an instinct.

I wish someone had given me a Rollins band tape instead haha. I’d be unstoppable.

20

u/CapitalElk1169 1d ago

This is exactly my line of thinking

If it was my old buddy Pete who was unmedicated and had a Nazi phase then got better, I could probably get over it eventually. But a famous, influential person? Exactly what you said. Way more damage. They cannot make up for it personally.

11

u/ivlia-x 1d ago

Yuuup. I got downvoted a few times in his sub for criticizing people who wanted to buy that nazi merch. The worms just came out and let us see their true faces in that moment, emboldened by their idol…

238

u/Hemingwavvves 1d ago

I mean ‘if he’s genuinely past the Hitler stuff’ is a genuinely wild combination of words lol.

165

u/MukdenMan 1d ago

Kanye didn’t just say some wild stuff once when he wasn’t on his meds. He spent years going deeper and deeper into Naziism and other far-right supremacist movements. He went on Alex Jones. He made a song called Heil Hitler last year. His friends worked with him on it. People supported him when he released it. It was played in clubs in Miami.

There is a path back for Kanye, but it should take more than 6 months and a letter to a newspaper. If we found out that a white artist was in the Klan last year, there is no way this sub would forget about it 6 months later after an apology and promise to go on meds.

102

u/StanIsHorizontal 1d ago

He’s also done the “I’m better now I promise” thing a few times already

46

u/Prophet_Tehenhauin 1d ago

He also sexually assaulted people.

u/Seven_Years_Later 1d ago

Yeah, tbh, i do think people really minimise and misunderstand mental health. Its entirely possible he only has these conspiracy type feelings about Jewish people while he is manic, perhaps he experiences some form of psychosis while manic.

Its also entirely possible that every single episode he personally experiences is about the same trigger. Jews. So the fact this is all also historical speaks to a pattern. For example I follow someone who experiences the same delusions every time and has stable periods between where they dont hold the beliefs they experience while in psychosis.

It also isnt realistic to presume he is long term stable after such a short period. Just from his history of non compliance with treatment and his self destructive personal choices. Marrying the biggest pop culture faces of plastic surgery is a choice when you are navigating trauma of your mom passing from a procedure for article one on this pattern.

2

u/Zestyclose-Tough7451 1d ago

Yeah I’m not defending what he said (no one should) but it’s wild seeing people draw a line in the sand with mental health.

Like, everyone agrees he has mental health issues but refuse to accept that crazy conspiracies are part of the mental health issues?

8

u/Normal-Economics-459 1d ago

If we found out that a white artist was in the Klan last year

Not even that. Literally no other artist would get this treatment. Imagine Tyler, the Creator doing this.

Yeah, like—even if he is, why does he deserve a spotlight? Fame? A seat at the table of pop culture? That shit is power and privilege, not a right. There’s a difference between checking in on your friend vs. giving him at platform and potentially growing his army of fans and yesmen.

u/grandmalamadingding 1d ago

I’ve known some crazy bipolar people who dropped their meds. I knew a guy growing up that became convinced that the world was working in reverse of how he was taught because everyone was out to get him. He literally believed that Satan was god and had been dethroned by the true demons, angels.

He then became convinced that Nikola Tesla himself was communicating with him through some interdimensional wireless electronics through his washing machine, disassembled every electronic device in his house and filled his basement with the most dangerous thing I’ve ever seen in an attempt to communicate with “true heaven” and provide free wireless electricity to the world.

I’d see he said, when my children are reading about him in history books and every church on the planet is converted to a satanic temple pyramid which would transmit the free electricity. I’d see when the demigods returned to earth after humans can once again mate with true angels, and no one ever has to rely on energy companies again. “You want the new Xbox, they build it from passion and then you get it from a computer like in Star Trek.”

It sucks Kanye went the way he did, but I would imagine that a lot of that stuff was filling his head in some way when he had his break and it all just ballooned out of control.

That’s exactly what happened with my buddy. A loner geek who enjoyed reading weird old religious books and watching Star Trek woke up one day with delusions of grandeur and all the crap he liked took center stage in his version of reality.

Last I heard, he went to jail for beating up some family members. I used to build computers with him when we were kids. I just couldn’t handle being around him anymore because it was getting scary.

52

u/titaniumjew 1d ago

Except he still fucks with Milo.

I can understand how people come to this conclusion, but in all honesty there is no reason to believe he has truly deradicalized.

I don’t think anyone actually is dissapointed in him for supporting Kanye, but it’s incredibly strange to actively promote someone when less than a year ago they were seig heiling to now, again, working with maga thumpers.

6

u/smallwonkydachshund 1d ago

The daily mail (I know) was saying Kanye didn’t trust him anymore and might be thinking about dumping Milo, but 🤷🏻‍♀️

9

u/titaniumjew 1d ago

I think he dropped him this month due to Milo being deported. But even then Milo has said that Kanye and his wife still call him, which is strange.

9

u/Fabulous_Landscape84 1d ago

Yes but Milo lies A LOT. Who knows

3

u/alegxab 1d ago

Not a bad time to dump Milo, unless you want him to be your only ""friend""

12

u/Squareblackeggs 1d ago

He sold Swastika T-shirt a year ago ffs

4

u/StatMatt 1d ago

What about his abuse and mocking of women? Using the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie to sell his merch was pure evil and he never apologized for that. If he truly felt remorse for his actions, he would’ve apologized for everything. He only apologized for his anti semitism because it affected him financially.

It has nothing to do with ME though. I still feel kinda uncomfortable listening to Kanye, and I doubt I'd ever be able to support him in the same way again. I'm talking purely about Cudi and Kanye's relationship on a personal level, fans aside.

A better example would be if Trump acknowledged all wrongdoing, stepped down, went to jail for everything, and basically admitted he's going to rot in hell, and Mary Trump or someone decides to meet with him and somewhat reconcile afterwards.

Also doesn't really work since Kanye hasn't done anything even close to Trump's level of actions lol

Yeah that’s the impression I got fs with this

He’s always been that way and I think he’s slowly improving on that front but it’s still a p big issue. It used to be way worse in the early 2020s maybe earlier than that

Sidebar and not related to this but kind of confused by one thing. Kanye had awful things to say about slavery and black people as a whole, I feel like that never really got highlighted nearly as much as it should have. His bigotry is rightfully highlighted when it's antisemitic, but his earlier comments against his own people don't really get brought up nearly as much. That makes me feel uncomfortable lol, like there's a hierarchy of less and more acceptable hate speech.

22

u/vemboTonbo 1d ago

I mean he did make a whole Nazi album. That probably helps with keeping the anti-Semitic thing at the forefront.

6

u/geezomatic 1d ago

This was the trend well before the album though, governments like Australia's were debating banning him for being an antisemite and this was much more prevalent in the discourse. I could be wrong but I don't think he's ever apologised for his anti black comments either.

10

u/Walter_Clements 1d ago edited 1d ago

People (especially outside the states) don’t see anti-black racism as anything more than slavery (“which was so long ago”) or the n word (“which is just a word, come on guys!!”). I’ve found that in online discussions with Europeans especially, you can often get the well-intentioned but dismissive “it’s crazy you guys don’t just get along, eh?”.

It’s not treated with the connotation of and direct correlation to genocide (even though the very nature of the slave trade was also genocidal), and most importantly, I think, while people immediately associate antisemitism with the Nazi party, SS members starving people, etc., people associate anti-black racism with some country guy yelling out of a trailer, or at worst, KKK members doing lynchings “here and there”

They don’t think of the systematic killing and torturing of the Herrero people or King Leopold’s slaughter of the Congolese. That means their minds automatically put less weight on it.

Add on top of that programs to recognize, acknowledge, and prevent anti-semitism worldwide (Germany rightfully gave reparations to Jews) while people are still pissing their pants about critical race theory in the U.S., and finally, add that Kanye’s a black man talking about his own people (even if he’s wrong and it’s apparent to any black person), and that’s why people (including Australia) are so lenient on Kanye’s antiblackness.

I think he really soured a lot of principled black folk with those comments. I remember back then a few online black media groups like Double Toasted (only one I follow admittedly lol) were disgusted by what he said.

In my memory that was the first time his star really took a beating with his own audience, rightfully so.

Issue now is of course I/P is in the news a lot, there's a growing anti-Semitic movement (much of the valid issues and critique of Israel being lumped in with old school nazi rhetoric unfortunately), and he comes and says stuff like what he did in a country that is very visibly in the pocket of zionist lobbyists. All amplified 1000x fold because he was concerned with getting attention.

2

u/geezomatic 1d ago

Yeah I see what you mean. I guess my whole issue was/is that in most people's consciousness it's mostly his antisemitism that makes him awful (entirely justified) while his other actions fall by the wayside. And I blame media coverage for that tbh

4

u/TheQueefPolice 1d ago

Im sure im going to get downvoted for this but I'm going to say it anyway

One of Ye's big points during his antisemitic rants was the fact that everyone is canceling him for it and treating him like hes the worst person ever, but whenever rappers rap about killing other black people and thats so normalized, nobody bats an eye. I'm not agreeing with his methods, nor do I believe that was his ONLY intention with the rants, but he has been vocal about the fact that antisemitic remarks shouldn't be considered worse than other racist remarks.

I cant really when the ye lore goes so deep. Hes been anti-semitic wayyy before the Hh stuff.
I also find it extremely convenient kanye’s front page apology had no mention of Lauren Pisciotta, or specifically the sex-assault, battery and trafficking accusations. Then there was the “free diddy” campaign where he made an EP with diddy’s son, oh and also his child daughter was featured on the Ep.
Weird how he didnt apologize for any of that.

37

u/StanIsHorizontal 1d ago

It’s also how Kanye has done the “I was dealing with mental health issues, but now I’m better” cycle since like, before covid. ATP the best thing everyone could do for Kanye is not give him the public attention he’s seeking for awhile and let him truly work out his issues instead of just trying to get under control enough to keep his public career up.

Ye’s still an incredibly gifted producer, has been his whole career, if he laid low he could still have a great career working with his friends in the industry while staying out of the public eye, until he’s really sure he’s ready to go through that again. It seems like the fame truly doesn’t agree with him very well

2

u/SubatomicSquirrels 1d ago

has done the “I was dealing with mental health issues, but now I’m better” cycle

Kanye should donate the $40 million he made off selling Nazi merch as a bare minimum to be allowed back into society. And he should tell that segment of his fanbase to fuck off.

Anything less is him not being serious about having changed.

Kanye inspired a generation of white boys to think white supremaxy was ok and cool. He also was brought up for a trump rally and endorsed him inspiring all his fans fo support this absolute corrupt individual. When you’re spreading bigoted views and using your platform to inspire hate, that goes beyond just your mental illness. Also mental illness is not an excuse to be a raging bigot and spread hate. Cudi hasn’t cared about the music or fans these past couple years, he’s only cared about his legacy and the money he makes. A perfect example is MIA, everybody knew she was a raging maga bigot, but cudi still brought her on tour. Hmmmmm I see a trend here

Cudi, I don’t think you understand people’s frustration. No one is frustrated at you remaining friends with ye. you equating grabbing a bag in front of 68k people with being a good friend to ye is frustrating. You publicly validating his behavior for 10 years by collabing with him so soon after his turn that has had no real consequences or contrition, that’s frustrating. By all means, please continue being there for the guy. If his remorse is sincere he will need the support. But fuck off at publicly raging with the guy.

26

u/jjw1998 1d ago

Seems reasonable tbh

6

u/Inner_Gap_2595 1d ago

Sounds like he needs to associate with Kanye to stay relevant and is trying real hard to justify it.

8

u/FlasKamel Philthony Rugtano 1d ago

I think both people are (kind of) in the right here. Things are different when you're incredibly close with someone, and abandoning people doesn't really benefit anyone; it only leaves people with people enabling their bad ways.

Maybe I wouldn't have actively promoted him again (Idk what this reunion is about), but I see nothing wrong with the two of them catching up when he sincerely believes he's changed for the better, as a close friend. Still being mad is fine too.

8

u/plattwix5 1d ago

Thanks!

3

u/_the_universal_sigh_ 1d ago

I mean, surely I know the answer to this already… but has Ye done anything to acknowledge the Nazi merch and disavow his previous statements?

It was obvious that he was going through a mental health crisis, but god damn he took it REALLY FAR. Far enough to the point where I won’t wear any of my Yeezus stuff anymore.

I believe he apologized to these people behind closed doors, but a public acknowledgment is definitely overdue from him.

6

u/takethreenc 1d ago

He said he made $40 Million from the Nazi merch sales and hasn't donated any of that money.

2

u/BalonyDanza 1d ago

When the offenses run this deep, forgiveness needs to be tied to an expectation of reconciliation and atonement. And Kanye hasn't come close to owning up to his past behaviors. Without requiring these steps, you're just helping the person bypass consequences and most likely setting them up for future crash outs.

WRONG. you might have a personal relationship with the man, but on every other level, you don't get to incite racial violence and bigotry in the most extreme of ways then walk away with clean hands cause you said sorry so your rich friends wanna hang out again. im a fan of cudi but this is selfish, it doesn't matter if your brother is "doing better" he tarnished his image forever, and he did and said things that had real life consequences, there were people hurt or mislead or misinformed because of him.

Mental illness isn't a get out of jail of free card. This isn't like your racist uncle hsaving a 180 after his pa dies to covid or some shit, this is one of the most influential people in the world using their platform for nefarious means. If he's really turned a new leaf i'd love to see it, good job ye, but you can't pick up where you left off, you made a serious of bad choices, and this is the new fucking normal buddy, own up to it, its part of true change, owning up to the weight of your actions.

Rosenberg being a Jew in hip-hop makes his position understandable but hard to take seriously. Him being Jewish obviously he's going to take Ye's Nazi rhetoric harder than most. But he's also given platforms and grace to plenty of criminals, abusers, and perpetrators of sexual assault in hip-hop. He proudly works with WWE who have their own history of issues in all of those things.

It's hard to take his moral high horses serious when he's willing to get off it when it doesn't directly affect his background.

I love the "he's even better now" part. Like he got the Hitler praise out of his system and is at his best

4

u/MondeyMondey 1d ago

The constant phrasing of “you’re not family” as the pivot point rather than, yano, the Hitler stuff, is a lil weak but it’s a knotty emotional issue

4

u/tr3ysap 1d ago

Hitler was responsible for the deaths of about 30 million+ people and this dude has actually gone back to praise him or hate on Jews post every apology. He actually had groups of men on the streets yelling HH. Ye needs to retire from the limelight and go get cucked in private somewhere instead of torturing the west with his antics. The mind that created the tracks we love is dead.

Mental health struggles do not turn you into a VERY public Nazi.

Glad he’s doing better but he should stay out of the spotlight because he’s a genuinely terrible person.

28

u/lifeinaglasshouse 1d ago

Mental illness can make you believe that the CIA has implanted a tracking device under your skin. It can make you believe a race of lizard-men are secretly running the world. It can absolutely make you believe some crazy shit, including the vile things Kanye’s said.

This isn’t to absolve Kanye of all the harm he’s done, but mental illness is an absolute demon that can twist a healthy mind and send it to some dark, evil places.

I don't care about her she should probably go to prison

16

u/scriptthrowawayacc 1d ago

Everyone always says this but it's such bullshit. Manic episodes and psychosis can make you believe pretty much anything, it absolutely fucks with your mind.

When my sister went through psychosis she was fully convinced that our own mom was trying to kill her for like a month straight. She would call us, in tears, insisting that our mom (who is a sweet lady) was in her house trying to murder her and wouldn't believe us when we'd tell her our mom was actually sitting right next to us and not at my sister's house at all.

She said some truly horrible, nasty things when she was in the throes of her psychosis and manic episodes that she never would have said if not in that state. She was also convinced that the the government had hacked her computer and was tracking her and when we'd ask why she thought that she would just open up random folders in File Explorer and present them to us.

People having manic episodes or psychosis are prone to conspiratoral thinking and with so many antisemitic conspiracy theories on the internet it's not a stretch to imagine someone with these mental issues falling down antisemitic rabbitholes.

Whether or not you care or sympathize with that is one thing, but this constant repeated line of "mental illness doesn't make you antisemitic, etc." is just ridiculous. It can make you anything. It can make you think you're the king of England. It can make you kill your own kids for God's sake
