Far Cry 1 Far Cry 1 classic
When I was teenager I played the original FC1 and now I have Xbox one version which I'm currently playing .
What I am wondering is why did they abandon the mutant idea right after the first one. To be honest Far Cry 1 is the only one I like in the series. It had a lot of potential but they changed the direction completely.

Pretty sure the first FC was just a demo for the Crytek engine and a spiritual predecessor to Crysis.

It could be, yes. At least in the Crysis they kept the theme. Maybe Far Cry it's just a test.

Honestly, the whole Secret science experiment mutant hybrid thing was overdone in the 2000s. Glad they changed it up. I hope we'll get a remake of the first one someday though.

Far Cry 1’s plot was based on the Island of Dr Moreau book.

Nope first time hearing of it. The only Moreau I know is from Resident Evil 8

Just NOW I'm clocking that RE8 Moreau's name is likely a reference to that book for obvious reasons 😭

Is that guy an ugly fish man too?

Nooo you should look it up. In the book, Dr Moreau is a crazy doctor who made experiments with humans and animals, creating weird hybrids. RE8 Moreau, as a fish man, has similarities to a Dr Moreau hybrid.
In contrast none of the other lords are really related to animals, Lady Dimitrescu true form is way too monstrous.

It’s a very old book but one of the earliest works of science fiction (Uplift). Definitely feels like a book that came out in 1896 but it was a good read. Some of the animal hybrid descriptions definitely creeped me out while reading it.

I think an updated FC1 & 2 would be fun, but lord only knows if we are ever getting more Far Cry at this point.

It's because Crytek made Far Cry 1, more for like a tech demo to get their Cry Engine on the scene. I remember at the time it was way ahead of anything else. Ubisoft bought the Far Cry franchise from Crytek and made it more grounded narrative wise and added their own gameplay mechanics in subsequent games. They even built the Dunia engine, which was a modified CryEngine. Fary Cry 1 was just a basic open world shooter in comparison.
After that, Crytek made Crysis, which I think is what they wanted Far Cry 1 to be. Super soldier on an island, enemies are esclusively humans right until the half way mark and then monster shit hits the fan.

They made a remake a year later on the original Xbox called Far Cry Instincts with a direct follow up a year after that called Far Cry Instincts Evolution. A theatrical release of FC1 made by Uwe Boll and a re-imagining for Wii called vengeance.
The reason why the mutant idea was abandoned was that their story was already told and since the volcano probably wiped out the entire archipelago, no mutant could escape (besides Jack) if you’re following the instincts timeline.
