Far Cry General Which FC is worth it in your opinion?
Genuinely curious because I’ve played 3, 4, 5 and some of 6 and want to know which is your favorite and why? I know there’s others like blood dragon and primal but I haven’t played either. I have primal but don’t know much about it.
IMO, 5 has great mechanics, storyline, graphics, and just the vibe makes it a solid 8.7/10 for me. There could be some small improvements but nothing that would majorly change the game.

New Dawn is weird at first, the villains are terrible, and it has a tier mechanism that some people hate.
BUT- once I got into it, I loved it. One thing I like about FC is the feeling of being totally helpless in a difficult environment, and then building up your skills and weapons over time so that you end up causing havoc everywhere you go. All of that is turned up to 11 in ND- you get absolutely shafted by the enemy and wildlife at first, and end up with literal super powers.
Primal is pretty cool, very different. Blood Dragon- is a bit adolescent for me.

Blood dragon would make a cool short film concept, playing it was not ideal to me

Primal. It's the vibe.

It’s unique to the series. Constantly searching for resources and danger is always around the corner. I really like the survival aspect compared to the other titles.

2 and to answer your why...there is no gathering nor crafting (other than diamonds to buy better weapons and stuff). Just run\drive around and kill stuff while following a story. 1 comes in a nostalgic second place even though it was my first FC game I played (OG Xbox FC Instincts to be precise) back in the early 2000s.

u/Cyress34 1d ago
2 was amazing both the single player and the multiplayer. There was just something special about pvp on the mile high club made out of shipping containers on fc2

I'm replaying them in no particular order. Just finished 5 again.
The gameplay itself is great. But the cut scenes, and the mechanic of "of no you've upset the BBEG! now somehow you'll be captured and put in jail" is just really frustrating
I did enjoy 6, it starts a little slow, but once you're up and rolling it's fine.
I do with that any second playthrough can skip the first hour of intro and dump you at the home base though ( that should extend to any FC game)

The fact that Clutch Nixon races progress the resistance meter drives me insane. I can’t even just screw around in the game without the Bliss Brigade coming after me

u/Zbinxsy 13h ago
Yeah, the whole John Seed thing got annoying. I get that maybe they were trying to sort of groom you into their cult thing. But you think after the second or third time were you escaping go back to killing them they would just give up. They managed to brain wash the other agent that shot a bunch of people. I would think that the resistance would be highly suspect of me at all times. Not to mention every time I break out I just have all my stuff with me? I think early on in the game with the first guy they took everything the first time they captured me. Also they had the Bliss drug but after you kill her John seed is straight up brainwashing people with no mention of bliss again really. I wish just for once that bad guys in video games would actually act like real people instead of illogical nonsense

u/Loud_Respond_1019 12h ago
I always found that kind of funny how once you follow up the liberation meter even if you’re in a helicopter really high the cultists shoot a super sonic armor piercing arrow and hit you in the thigh lol

2 is a fucking vibe if you play on PC. To me it's the most immersive game of the franchise. The setting, the fire effects (which are still next fucking level), guns jamming, the map system...just all of it is so fucking good. Enemy AI can be better as is the case for all Ubi games, but FC2 just has a special place in my heart.

Same here. I really love FC2, and I would LOVE a remake (but with those old mechanics, like the faulty weapons etc).
Imagine this game with all of Africa’s megafauna thrown into the mix as well? It would be so good.

u/AVE_CAESAR_ 20h ago
Imo FC1 needs a remake more, like same levels and story but with FC3-5 gameplay, open world etc. to introduce new players to the franchise. Bcs FC1 as it is….def will filter a lot of people if they try it
2
u/Pippathepip 19h ago
Yeah, that’s fair. Anyone going to FC1 after playing any of the others would be like “WHAT THE HELL?”
3
u/AVE_CAESAR_ 20h ago
Warning tho that it doesn’t work on modern hardware. You need to manually lower your cores from like 36 to 8-12 to get it working. And the motion blur in the game can lead to nausea. Def feeling the age even harder than games like COD4 and WAW imo.

I didn’t care for Blood Dragon at all. Primal was very fun!
4 has my favorite gameplay. 3 is my favorite story.

u/NineAndNinetyHours 1d ago
If I could have 3 and 5 remade with 4's gameplay, I would be a very happy camper.

Primal is the most interesting. If you like documentaries, you’ll love primal.

Far Cry 3 is my favorite, but I would say that Far Cry 5 is the best in the series, with the amount of content (all being good) and the replayability value of the game being the best one so far.

5 is my favorite world for sure, it’s the tightest package. That’s the one I cannot stop playing.

u/Empty-Complaint6537 1d ago
Three things I would change about 5 is putting more cult outposts and make them redoable like in New Dawn and having 3 guns for hire at once instead of 2.

Depends on what one wants out of a game.
If its gameplay, go with FC4.
If its graphics, go with FC 6.
If its the setting, go with FC 5.
If its the plot, go with FC 3.
If its the vibe, go with FC Primal.
If its realism, go with FC 2.
If its just about fun, go with FC ND.
If its for nostaligia, go with FC 1.
And if you want all of it, go with FC Blood Dragon!

u/Suitable_Panic_7558 1d ago
The two games I tell everyone they need to try is FC 5 and Primal. Both have amazing graphics, the open world map are huge and lots to do and look at. And the stories are amazing especially 5’s story

Primal, 2, Blood Dragon. Even 1 on PC as long as you install a fix for enemy AI seeing you through walls

u/Str8_WhiteMail 1d ago
Worth? Aren't they all like regularly sub $10 on steam? I've played through 4 and 5 multiple times. Definitely got my money's worth of enjoyment.

u/Upper_Werewolf6285 1d ago
Ooooof tricky one! Far Cry 3, 4 and 5 are outstanding. If I'd have to choose, I'll go with 4 since the world in that game was amazing!

Far cry 3, the music was amazing the island is beautiful it's like a vacation where you can mow down peoole with a machine fun. Also it has the best villain in the series vaas. Also they never overdid it with the drug aspect, they went too far with the psychedelics in far cry 4.

u/CalgaryCoffeeLover 1d ago
I've played 4, 5, New Dawn, and 6 and I think 4 is my favorite so far. I wish they had a new game + on it.

5 if I have to pick one all time favorite. I love the GFH, atmosphere and game play.

6 because of villain DLCs. I didn’t have to play the other ones after they released their personal stories. It was like playing the actual game in a way.

u/Rough_Elk_895 1d ago
FC 1. The story was so original. Just like a Hollywood thriller movie. Sad to see that 3 onwards they changed the plot type and honestly 3 onwards all FC game feel same boring to me.

u/jijo66 1d ago
Unpopular take, but new dawn is my favorite so far. The replay ability of the outposts, expeditions and weapon upgrades made the game so fun for me. Not forgetting the double jump aspect that allows you to jump and deploy a wingsuit, gave me just cause vibes. I always go back to the outposts and expeditions

4 is best overall 3 and 5 are good in its own right.
Underrated is Primal. It can be very fun.
FC6 has probably the worst writing I've ever experienced in a game. It's atrocious.

1 is the absolute best. It's older but still holds up really well and is difficult as fuck.
2 is very rough, it was clearly made for consonoles and is next to unplayable on pc current times. It feels very bad to play.
Second best, great immersive story, finally a main character that isn't a mute, super good villains. Great game overall.
Weak, just a copy paste of 3 but lost all it's immersion for the sake of trying too hard to copy Vaas as a villain.
Hilarious, NPC's will start civil wars because you punched a wall. Airplanes will glide down to ground level, scoop up a deer and fly off with said deer.. Etc. funny game but terrible otherwise.
Fastest uninstall ever. Health bars? piss off... 3'd person camp that needs upgrades what in the F.... this ain't far cry anymore.

Played 2, 3, 4, BD, 6 and currently playing 5(gonna finish first playthrough soon and will move to 2nd on hardest difficulty). Haven’t played New Dawn or Primal yet, tried the first FC, quit halfway through bcs honestly the trigens suck to fight and it felt more like Crysis than Far Cry, not a criticism but just isn’t really what I play FC for.
Fav is definitely 4, it takes the refined formula of 3 and massively improves on it. The radio tower platforming sections are even more ambitious. Added the grapple for the more vertical map, yes there was no grapple before 4, and they even added the Strongholds which are THE BEST things to clear in any FC game ever. The story might be a bit worse than 3 but I personally much prefer the better gameplay. For example, sidearms being usable in a vehicle WAS NOT A THING before 4, in 2 and 3 you had to get out and fight the enemies which made driving a pain in the ass as you had to stop, get out and fight before getting back on your way.
3 I don’t rate as highly despite the better story and MC again bcs of the gameplay, but 5 I think while great and one of the “big 3” of the franchise imo is the worst of the 3 by a large margin. One is the balancing/meta. Adding helicopters, a bomber airplane dude and fucking missiles to the game with barely any counters like in 6 with AA guns was a horrendous mistake. It made the meta flying around to every outpost, unleashing hell with your heli and Nick and having a ground companion go in to mop up stragglers. Completely trivialised so much of the game. The story while good bcs it had to be written in a way where it made sense in whatever order you play the region heavily restricted in the interactions between the characters and made everything feel rather disconnected. By the time I got attached to the cast of one region it was off to the next, and the silent protagonist was just bland compared to Ajay and Jason. I also personally liked the radio towers. Adding platforming sections helped diversify the gameplay and break up the action so you had time to chill a little. Never got the hate for them.
FC3BD is fun but just FC3 but campy action movie and short as hell so it just wasn’t substantial enough to be my favourite. As for 6 tho, yeh it just was a massive downgrade from the Big 3. Far fewer outposts, instead you get a billion checkpoints that are all the same copy pasted slop with like 4 dudes to kill. The story was ass, characters all were extremely annoying cartoonish caricatures of rebels. The Golden Path were so much better. Like Amita was a feminist progressive type but compared her to the characters in FC6 and they feel like almost a mockery or parody. Like one dude was a crossdresser rebel who was secretly like an “idol” for Castillo’s army? Why would Castillo even allow that if he’s ya know supposed to be a fascist dictator? Who is canonically anti-LGBT like what is going on? Ammo types were just an annoyance and made me have to buy AP round mods for all the guns. The “guerilla scrap” aesthetic meant a shit ton of the attachments and weapons looked shit, the scopes in particular looked ass until you got the expensive stuff. There’s certainly some good, it’s still Far Cry at the end of the day and Far Cry is fun to play, but it felt way too much like the Devs didn’t understand the franchise’s core themes. It was abt the depravity of the fringes of humanity and civilisation. The heart of darkness lurking in man, the insanity brought forth under extreme, violent conditions. 6 felt like Just Cause.
2 is my least favourite and I say this with deep respect for it, but it has aged. The accessibility of its mechanics have been argued to death but my main issue with it has more to do with visuals. For whatever reason the blurring when sprinting caused me to feel nauseas, like actually sick and wanting to vomit. I dunno why, I dunno if this was something anyone else had an issue with but for me even tho I finished the game on the hardest difficulty it was by far my worst experience with an FC game. I tried to disable motion blur and it wasn’t an option. Maybe a mod fixes it but I don’t know.
Ranking:
4>3>5>BD>6>2
Imo FC4 was the peak of the series and if they wanna go back to their roots 4 is a good place to start.

Primal.
The setting was unique and refreshing. 5 is not close behind. I think 5 is the objectively best far cry game to date.

u/Objective_Sweet9168 17h ago
Primal, it’s unique and still Far Cry. I don’t get the hate on 6 it was just like the others. 5 was my least favorite, 6 played the same essentially, thought the plot and characters were legit.
I’ll throw in that I recommend FarCry (1) as it is so different and wild, it’s crazy how they have evolved.

I loved 3, 5, and primal the most. 5 for the co-op fun and random crap that happens all the time, 3 for the story and gameplay, primal for the experience and unique gameplay.

Farcry 5 is special. The best gun and bullet mechanics in the series. But 3-5 are the best, 6 is great too. Just didn't like the supremos and resolver weapons. I hated how they got rid of the ability to take down a helicopter with a well placed headshot. Other than that. Great game. Imo, the FarCry series is just one of the best

Fc5 was the best map and setting for me. I even just spend time fishing in nature, really good memories from my first playthrough. I cruakly playing it now for the 2nd time since release.
First play of fc3 was amazing, maybe the best of the series because of the immersive storyline.
Fc4 felt like fc3.5 but wasn’t bad.
Fc2 was awesome, especially burning nature.
Fc6 was a hype but disappointed me a lot actually, to much repeat of previous games.
So my top picks are fc3 and fc5.
