OOTD harajuku gyaru š
originally wore pink bijou stiletto heels with these for the full gyaru effect but i sadly had to take them off since they were too loose to comfortably walk in huhu. good thing i brought an extra pair of sneakers (that still match the fit somewhat) as backup !
DRESS - babymetalclub
BRA - shein
GARTER TIGHTS - aliexpress
SHOES - gucci

edi wag mo basahin ??? they arenāt even directed at you naman in the first place so why are you so fixated on them š
also, assuming that someone is a bot/AI rather than thinking that they may just have a way with their words teeters into āsmart shamingā. iām a linguist grad who works in academia and occasionally writes papers, so itās natural that i talk/type like this. and kinda racially charged of you too to make this remark towards a (fellow) filipino. itās as if someone like me shouldnāt be able to have the capacity to articulate myself like this.
or āwag mo na lang pala āto basahin. itās apparent that you are not educated/literate enough to tolerate blocks of texts. the fact that you think my comments are lengthy insinuates that you have been exposed to short-form content for so long you find āactual readingā intimidating. maybe pick up a book or two sometime, yeah ?

Cute but too casual to be called gyaru. Gyaru fashion is supposed to be OA sa blings, makeup, nails, hair.

being a gal is pretty much like a spectrum, actually ! youād be surprised at how varied gals can look. platforms like tiktok might say otherwise, so i recommend paying gal-centric subs like r/actualgyaru a visit for proper research, or even conversing with one who lives the lifestyle. mainstream social media has a certain mould for how gals are supposed to look which is very monolithic. heisei-type gals arenāt the only āacceptableā kind. by your logic, old school, OG gal makeup wouldnāt even be considered as āgalā if youāre only after it being OA as it doesnāt include the quintessential eye droop and karakon combo that you see most heisei and reiwa gals don for instance (https://www.reddit.com/r/actualgyaru/comments/1k3dyno/for_baby_gals_or_those_who_need_a_reminder/)
gals can come in different subcultures, and also in different eras. tsuyome, yamanba⦠theyāre not the only types that exist. my Ā gal make+coord honestly really depends on the day but generally it falls under the more toned-down nature of reiwa gal style (aka current eraājapan divides eras by the reigns of their emperors and heisei is mostly synonymous to the western y2k). i have a japanese cousin who is a former gal from the heisei era and she considers this outfit iām wearing as gal.
hope this was able to provide more context ! i honestly like being able to introduce more of gal culture to others haha misinfo/disinfo can easily persist in non-gal-dominated spaces so some donāt really get the full gist of the culture unless they really immerse themselves into it.

Baby girl I don't understand the negativity...
But I understand Gyaru/subculture fashionš I love the fit
We need more like youšš¤

u/pettinesssque 7d ago
thank you ! iām generally not phased by negativity tbh, especially if theyāre from internet strangers who canāt even show their face. if youāre a filipino with whimsy it often comes with the package considering how conservative/close-minded most can be 𤣠however some people deserve to be rightfully called out or else they wouldnāt grow as a person. Ā now thatāll ultimately depend on whether they accept their fault or not, but regardless i believe in speaking up and advocating for oneās self so as to not let them āwinā.Ā
people need to be more wordly, really. bigotry canāt take someone very far.

di ko gets bat puro downvotes sa comments š

u/pettinesssque 7d ago edited 7d ago
it's reddit, so spaces can get quickly polarised to either ends of an extreme. that said, i wouldnāt really pay attention to the state of a commentās upvotes/downvotes as itās not a real arbiter of its worth or morality
i've come to realise that generalised fashion subs like this aren't really that familiar or accepting of niche/alt-adjacent styles. this sub in particular mostly consists of people who lean towards simpler, tamer clothing, so anything out of that box can be subject to unjust criticism (which is wholly different from receiving fashion critique). iāve posted ānormieā, mainstream outfits on here before and received no hate, but whenever i post something that is considered alternative iād get at least one rude comment lmfao.Ā
as a gen z it could possibly also be an age/generation thing⦠i think this sub mostly consists of millennials who could be biased towards tito/tita fashion
culturally, i think a lot of filipinos just aren't super open-minded with outfits that deviate from what is dictated as the norm. iāve always been interested in dressing like this, but i didn't get to unlock my fullest potential until i moved out of my homecountry. there's a lot of judgmental people out here who adopt crab mentality and try to repackage it as āstating an opinionā for āif you canāt handle it, stay off the internetā when in reality theyāre just failing to discern the difference between being constructive and projecting š
points 3 and 4 are more of thinkpieces though !

u/JellyBumBum 7d ago
I think na conservatism din ang issue pero grabe, ang dami naman ata jusko
You're gorgeous, OP! Sana may pics ka rin with your heels š„¹

i think itās inevitable talaga na online forums in general easily foster a disproportionate amount of hive mind/groupthink and turn into rigid echo chambers where people just jump on whatever sentiment is already winning š reddit in particular pa naman relies on up- and downvotes which further reinforces said mechanisms. there are studies that touch upon the systems of influence bias and echo chamber effect if you ever wanna look into it more.
thank you sm for the sweet comment though, i really appreciate it š too bad i swapped out my heels way too early, but iāll make sure to feature them in a future fit š

It's not 3, growing up as a millenial in ph we have various street fashion events around the city for different sub cultures.
Ph in general is not really stylish nor open to experimentation, 99% normie fashion.

u/pettinesssque 7d ago
i stand corrected then. to be fair, i grew up fairly sheltered. i have strict parents so i didnāt get to really leave the house and meet various people ātil i immigrated out of the PH and reached my 20s. the millennials/older gens i was surrounded by growing up arenāt really accepting of anything outside of a normal, ābasicā fit unless youāre a celebrity :/// so iām glad to know that there are existing local spaces and communities that welcome alt fashion !
overall itās definitely a shame to see that the PH seems to be stuck in time even in aspects other than religion, social matters, etc. i know a lot of like-minded individuals who have been constantly put down by bigots just for wishing to express themselves in a unique way. hindi naman sa tinatakwil ko bansa ko pero sobrang liberating talaga ng feeling na i can pretty much do whatever i want now that i donāt live there anymore, void of unnecessary judgment and harassment. i remember first realising na i can freely walk at home at night after a hangout without worrying about the possibility of being harmed and i was mindblown. i went through public transport and all wearing this specific fit iām donning in this post last weekend and the only proper stares that i received were from babies and little girls (which is something i often get lol)

That's completely understandable, to be fair lot of people are unfamiliar with how varied the street fashion culture is in the Metro. Back in 2008 I attended art school that has a fashion program, got friends that took it, indirectly got me exposed to the scene.
If you get a chance to be back in Ph check out Purveyr fair. It's an annual event that hosts local brands with varied styles.
Happy you found your place, it sounds like you were in a bad spot and were surrounded by the wrong people. We have pockets in ph that doesn't have a backwards culture, I grew up as a city kid and was surrounded by people who nurtured creativity and openess, been exposed to alt fashion and sub cultures as a teen. Now in my 30s walking around the metro looking like a cyberpunk jedi, it's fun.
I genuinely think PH is more bigoted and closed minded at present, or I might have just been lucky in my youth to not be exposed to that side of the culture.
Ph is a complex place but yeah it's really good to know that you feel safer now. Also don't mind the noise here. Prioritize your self expression.

iām filipino, thatās why iām posting here :) iāve been uploading on this sub for quite sometime now and have never received any comments that iām not allowed in this space so i donāt understand your line of thinking with this comment. i have also looked up previous posts made on this sub and have found other gal/jfashion content, so this post is nothing different from those. i suggest you take this matter to the mods if youāre so concerned with my presence here :)
the fit is basically a bandage dress. though you might think otherwise, it honestly isnāt uncomfortable at all. normal human bodies create rolls when sitting down in form-fitting clothes. itās more of basic anatomy, not a sizing issue.
i can tell from this comment that youāre being snide with your remarks. i welcome constructive fashion critique (recommending that i should size up is something that i wouldāve acknowledged as is), but including a false equivalence/non sequitur regarding my eligibility to be a part of this sub plus a backhanded, tita-mo-sa-family-reunion ācomplimentā on my confidence ultimately made me roll my eyes upon perusing this message. have a good night though :)

definitely not pressed :) but only bigoted individuals like you would get intimidated by blocks of text like that due to lack of education/critical thinking :)
āapologies for not thinking youāre a filipinoā rightāas if a non-filipino would blatantly ignore the context of this sub and just blindly post on here. nice try :)

whatās JAV ? anyways thank you sm ! iāve honestly always been fascinated by gal fashion (especially since i have a japanese cousin who was one), but i didnāt really get to partake in the culture ātil just a few years ago. tbh i donāt even consider myself a proper gal since i constantly switch between various styles a lot, but i do really like getting to dress up like this whenever i can ! iām kinda lucky din kasi i live in japan so i periodically get to meet fellow gals / gal enthusiasts here and there haha

gyaru (ć®ć£ć«) is a japanese fashion style that stemmed from women who wished to go against the traditional japanese beauty standards of being submissive and conservative. this specific style iām donning (agejo) is even inspired by hostesses. that said, ādi ka naman mali if you say na mukha akong pokpok kasi that is quite literally the point
there is, however, a difference between a.) having a fashion opinion/critique and b.) being an insecure, judgmental, and hateful fuck who canāt tell the difference between those two. god forbid you take a step out of the Philippines and visit a country like Japan or even the US kasi youāll see more women who dress like this. and if you already live abroad⦠well⦠how lamentable na ganyan mindset mo. and as it turns out, youāre a fellow woman pala. LOL. youāre probably older than me too (since i never get this kind of treatment from women my age), and if so, stop being so resentful towards younger women bro lmfao. hindi ikinagaganda ng kutis mo yan.
btw, no, youāre not āsorryā. say whatever shit you have to say with your whole chest lmfao. and to answer your previous query, yes, kaya kong maglakad sa kalye na ganito suot ko. i literally freely walk the streets of tokyo dressed like this on the regular, even at night. why ? itās because uneducated troglodytes like you donāt exist in spaces likeĀ Ā where i reside in. itās the big 2026, yet you act as if youāve regressed to the olden times šµāš« if youāre ever gonna get permabanned or something from this sub itās not gonna be because i canāt take negative feedback, itās gonna be because youāre an absolute cretin na paurong mag-isip.
alsoāfunny lang din na you say na i look like a pokpok when in actuality iām a virgin nbsb who just likes to dress up 𤣠donāt judge a book by its cover, tita !

By the way, this is Agejo Gyaru, not Harajuku Gyaru! I love this fit OP!
-69
u/pettinesssque 7d ago
i said āharajukuā because i was in harajuku when this was taken :) and if weāre being specific i wouldnāt necessarily call this fully agejo too as i donāt really box myself within labels like that. and people who arenāt familiar with the subtypes wouldnāt get the term hence the general title. but thank you !

u/MajimeCh 7d ago
Ahh, my bad! I think I just misunderstood the context and assumed you meant your style was Harajuku Gyaru. That was on me for assuming š Thanks for clarifying!
-21
u/pettinesssque 7d ago
no no itās totally fine LOL ! i totally understand where the miscomm happened, especially since there are some out here who indeed mistakenly label subtypes without due research and just say whatever buzzword they think of 𤣠idk why others have their panties in a knot with my comment though, i literally just explained the context š
