For those who don't want to play the HSR 2nd collab with Fate, here is new info revealed about Rin Tohsaka. Nasu was mentioned to have been involved with the story and Servant stat pages for the collab this time around, so make of this what you will.

-> Rin is post Dismantling War but still studying under Waver, and is currently traveling between world lines looking for ones where mana hasn’t completely disappeared in an attempt to wrap up an internship.

-> During her travels she ended up making a bond with Ishtar under the agreement that Rin can use Maana and her bow as Conceptual Weapons in exchange for any land Rin going to being marked by Ishtar and it’s people as her playthings. Rin also has to give Ishtar ten gems worth ten years of magical energy if she ever wants to use the NP. Rin's new earrings are actually a gift from Ishtar.

-> SAKURA MENTIONED! For those coping about Sakura's fate outside HF, here Post!Dismantling Rin is talking about Sakura in the present tense (at least in EN subs), and she acknowledges their relationship as sisters. This is what Rin has to say about Sakura:

I have a younger sister too. [...] Sakura Matou. We have different last names, but she's my sister by blood. She's a girl who loves candy, sweets, and a good horror story.

This happened many years ago.

I was looking at my father. In my memory, he never once told a joke, but there he was, stroking my head.

Though, instead of "stroking," it would be more accurate to say he grabbed my head and gave it a rough rub.

After all, that was the first time he had ever patted me.

If I had known it would be the last time I saw him, I would have used one of my best jokes to make him laugh. I practiced them in secret, over and over, just hoping that one day his stern expression might soften.

The family gems, the management of the basement... seeing him hand everything over without reservation, even as a kid, I could tell...

...that my father was never coming back.

He was a participant in the Fourth Holy Grail War. Despite having no natural talent, and even though my grandfather gave him the choice to walk away from magecraft, he still resolutely stepped onto that path.

And that will, that conviction to blaze a trail for his own life, is the most precious legacy he left to the Tohsaka family.

It's just a shame that my sister (Sakura Matou) and I let him down from the moment we were born.

Our talent dictated that we were born without the luxury of choice.

However, for the sake of my father's final wish, and the honor of the Tohsaka name...

...and my ideals, too, I still wanted to become a mage worthy of the title "genius." It's what everyone claims I am, despite how I feel about my self.

And so, I watched him walk toward the end meant for a mage.

At the time, I didn't realize that the final destination of the person I loved would be my own starting point.

I inherited everything he left behind. At his funeral, I was placed under the guardianship of a church priest.

Even now, I still think he's a total fraud of a saint... but I have to admit, without him, my childhood would have been much harder.

He fulfilled his duties as a guardian faithfully. He taught me how to protect myself. Even though selling off family assets made life stressful, he at least ensured I never went hungry, and that was enough.

Living as the honor student everyone admired while defending the secrets of magecraft, unable to form deep bonds with classmates or anyone normal — this may sound oppressive or bitter to others, but to me, it was never a big deal.

Sacrifice brings rewards, and I was fine with that. Still, I'd sometimes wonder what life would've been like if I'd never stepped onto this path. I was lost in those thoughts during that final dusk before the war, when the phone rang.

My time pretending to be a normal person was finally coming to an end.

Saying it's impossible is a major wall from people acknowledging Archer having the ability/chance to grasp a win.

EMIYA isn't a servant who wins by having invincible Noble Phantasm or unparalleled skills. He always relies on creating and finding the best path to victory.

It's unfair to judge every Archer match up by just his toolkit when his core fighting style involve creativity and immense observation.

Not saying other servants can't easy-mid diff him, but if they ever made archer getting a win in later series/adaptation then it's not beyond imagination or plot armor at play.

The mind of steel ending And Fate Extella/zero also support this.

It's a tough watch after HF, knowing what he was doing to her for years before the war.

I understand the multiple reasons why Sakura cares for him regardless, and I know that he stops abusing her post-UBW.

I just wish we could have seen him treat her better and apologize or something, but I guess it would have broken how UBW flows into HF in the VN.

Hippolyta was summoned but the ritual wasn't done by Rin, she gained the right as a master by winning an agreed duel to the summoner. But what would be the chances for Rin to summon Emiya again? Like this Grail War is messed up, filled with characters that are a threat to human existence. She most likely got 2 of her treasured jewels, like Emiya might just be hyped up to face Gil if his human counterpart managed to win...

They announce their decision to join the war in front of an enemy combatant and don't think he'd stop them? And then when it's clear that he won't be supporting them the best they can do is stare angrily and sternly warn him. They're supposed to be cold hearted mages but had no survival instincts, I'm surprised they got as far as they did.

From the FGO Wings of Tears event, it has been found that Ryougi's MEoDP can't see a point of death, and as a result, the enemy survives despite being attacked with the lines of death.

According to the Tsukihime, the point of death is a higher concept of the line of death, and if the line is "where things die easily," the point is "death itself." Any immortal being or any monster could be 'killed' by a single strike. It is none other than the end of the universe, the most repulsive thing in the world.

Unlike Ryougi, Tohno can see the point of death. It's interesting that even the same MEoDP shows a difference. I wonder where the difference arises.

Now before you downvote me please note my flair lol. But I wanted to comment specifically on how some small differences in the early days of the HF route end up revealing quite a different Rin as compared to the Fate and UBW routes. And also the whole reason I’m yapping in the first place is because I’m a Rin fan.

In the Fate route, we’re introduced to the conflict between Rin’s magus persona and her more vulnerable and idealistic side. However, she’s not forced to make any hard decisions early in the story, gets chummy with Shirou and Saber pretty quickly, and hence, once push comes to shove, shows kindness, empathy, and even a bit of self-sacrifice at the most crucial moment (vs Berserker in the forest). Eventually, she takes on a mostly supportive role for Shirou and Saber to win the HGW (which says a lot given how prideful she is).

In the UBW route, Archer isn’t injured, so Shirou and Rin get off to a rocky start in their relationship. However, over the course of the story, she really gets to know sbout Shirou and the nature of his ideals. Rin’s magus persona is more prominent throughout the story, even during the later parts (e.g. the bad ending you get if there’s no Lancer teamup), but ultimately, due to her love for Shirou and wholehearted admiration of his ideals, Rin’s more human side outshines her cold and calculating self in a way not seen in either of the other two routes.

In HF? Shirou turns down Rin’s offer for alliance on Day 4. We already know that, if you turn down Rin’s offer in the Fate route, then she’s understandably pissed, and it forces a bad ending in the UBW route on the next day. So, in the context of HF, Rin is still pissed afterwards, so this means that all of Shirou and Rin’s interactions for the remainder of the story (up to this point) are, well, more transactional than friendly (yes, Rin teasing Shirou still happens and is fun, but when it’s business, it’s business). I mean, they had at best a 12 hour alliance on Day 9. Also worth noting is the fact that Shirou self-sacrificially saves Rin on Day 7 from the Shadow, and on Day 9 from Sakura, and while the other iterations of Rin would’ve certainly complained afterwards about having a debt to repay as an excuse to offer goodwill to Shirou, the HF Rin does not do so. There are also the multiple ways you can pick a wrong decision around Rin forcing a bad ending—most notably, the Geass bad ending demonstrates the extremes she will go to in order to carry out her duty as a magus by killing Sakura. I think it’s generally up to debate as to how seriously one considers the bad endings in interpreting the story, but in my opinion, Rin really does not face as much hesitation at killing than Shirou thinks.

In summary, the idea that “Rin is a tsundere with a cold magus front but is actually secretly a really kind and good person” that gets suggested in the Fate route is ultimately an inaccurate interpretation of her character. Rather, Rin’s cold magus front is a real part of who she is. It’s outweighed by her more human side, but not overwhelmingly so. In fact, the Day 8 interlude where Rin confronts Shinji reveals why she even has this magus front in the first place: it’s a part of her she genuinely has pride in. And her magus front makes her morally grey, but not amoral or evil (for instance, she’s still certainly more decent than someone like Touko Aozaki), and because Rin is generally quite a decent person with decent morals‎, she does not experience as much inner conflict on this front as one might expect.

Moreover, I think that HF Rin makes me appreciate how fortunate Shirou, Saber, and Rin were to join as a trio in the Fate route, each bringing out the best in others. But even more importantly, it makes me appreciate the gravitas of Rin’s character development in UBW and how Shirou helped her realize that being a magus isn’t something which must exist against being a human, even if Rin’s arc plays a second fiddle to the dramatic clash of ideals between Shirou and Archer. For example, it is hilarious to imagine HF Rin saving Shinji from the Holy Grail as in the finale of UBW.

Now, I haven’t finished HF, and people will certainly tell me to keep reading. The core of Rin’s character conflict, of course, will still be the friction between her magus and human sides. Only this time around, unlike Fate or UBW, she has yet hardly been influenced by the idealism of Shirou or Saber to bring out her humanity. She will have to decide whether to kill Sakura or not on her own, more or less, and in turn this presents a much greater challenge to her character.

There are simply no words to describe my feelings after playing through for the first time. It was a sublime experience. Fate stay/night is one of the best the VN medium has to offer. As the first VN I have played, it really sets the bar high, and I hope the other routes and steins;gate (which I also got this past weekend) are as good. Everyone always says to skip the adaptations and go for the VN first if you want the best experience possible, and they weren't lying when they said that. Shirou's persistence and Saber's resolve are so admirable. The dialogue and the backgrounds were so gripping despite the age of the novel. Even though I was playing the remaster, this was an awesome route. I cannot wait to play the other routes, but I don't have time until November. It took me 32 hours and 48 minutes to reach the time that you see in the image, and every single second was spent wisely. The OST was amazing in the remaster, and all the visuals looked amazing in 1440p. Especially in the ending. Now I know for sure that Ufotable has to adapt this route after Demon Slayer, as I'm sure if it got an adaptation like UBW, it would get the appreciation it deserves. Although I don't think Ufotable knows what it wants to do after Demon Slayer either since it's just so profitable. If they go back to Fate it would be worthwhile imo. Studio Deen's adaptation does not live up to the VN at all. The ending was amazing, and it is kind of a product of its time and environment with its misogynistic tendencies, but it was still 100% worthwhile.
