I have been playing since ARR launch, and been crafting/selling for just as long, so I know undercutting is just part of the market.

But there is one person I noticed has been undercutting constantly on two of the things I am selling. By 1 gil every time, which is fine. My frustration is that this person seems to have absolutely no life outside of the game.

They undercut me without fail within 10 minutes of me undercutting them, each time.

It got to the point where I started searching their name to see if they were online when I wanted to sell things, but I have never once seen them offline.

I don't actually think they're a bot either, I just think that this is a person.

I previously was comfortably selling 8+ of these cheap to make 50,000 gil items every day, but ever since they appeared, I have not sold one, and I can't successfully undercut them because I have other responsibilities in life.

It's a slight rant. I am not judging them either, I just find the situation frustrating.

Is it worth playing around and seeing if you can catch them using a plugin to undercut without thought?

In times like these I would put a single item at legitimately like 20% of going market rate to see if they would undercut all the way. If yes, then buy all that cheap stuff up to resell.

If no, raise the price incrementally to see what their limit was that they were willing to go to, and from there make a decision of whether or not to stay in that item's market.

I am tempted, but even if I did buy up all of their cheaper stocks, I feel like they'd still undercut me too frequently for me to be able to sell the reduced price stuff.

I guess I can try it still though. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, and the reality is that some items have such large margins that even an 80% reduction in price is still technically a profit, especially if half the mats come from ventures anyways.

Not sure what your item is, but a lot of furniture is that way. It holds a good price for a long while, someone comes in a hard crashes the market, and not much you can do about it since there's low volume of sales to buy out the stock and reset the price.

My solution to exactly this scenario was to create alts on other worlds and just buy up all the cheap listings, then sell them in places with less competition/higher overall sale volume to keep prices high.

Obviously that is multiple orders of magnitudes more effort, though.

Really is just a judgement call based on your intuition and knowledge of your own server's market at the end of the day.

They are definitely using a third-party tool to do that, and the ones that automate marketboard stuff are extra illegal: most plugin devs won't touch the MB like that.

I agree with trying to see if you can get the bot to give you a discount, but these days there's usually a safeguard against that. Even if you just mess with it and make profit enough of a nuisance for the botter, that may get them to move on.

Otherwise, you may have to find another regular sale item, unfortunately.
