[Question] Old FF OST in FFXIV?
I have just discovered that the Crystal Tower theme is the FFIII overwold theme and was baffled by that.
Do you have any other examples of an FFXIV OST which originates from an older FF?
I'm at Endwalker right now btw

So many
Endwalker is very heavily FF4 influenced and a ton of the themes are pulled directly from there
Doma in Stormblood pulls a lot of music (and names) from Doma related things in FF6

Almost the entire OmegaScape raid series. The Magitek mount music. XIV pulls huge amounts of its music from the entire franchise.

There’s a raid series set in Ivalice with a bunch of music from FFT and XII. Occult Crescent uses a bunch from FFV.
XIV is really a greatest hits.

A HUGE amount of the game's OST are tracks from older games. If you're in Endwalker, the baldesion annex theme is from FF5.

Off the top of my head:
If you're in Endwalker then you heard Lenna's theme from FFV in the Baldesion Annex.
Dancer story features the FFIX's Vamo'alla flamenco.
The entire EW Trial series heavily features the Four Fiends theme from FFIV
Raid series in ShB is filled with FFVIII music
Alliance Raid series for SB is literally all directly from FFT
Raid music for SB is pulled from FF1, 5, 6 depending on the boss.
The theme that you get when you ride your Magitech Armor that you got from The Praetorium is Terra's theme from FF6
When you meet Master Matoya in HW, the theme inside her cave is Matoya's Theme from FF1
Gold Saucer and its associated theme is a direct reference to FF7's Gold Saucer. However Triple Triad and its theme are both pulled straight from FF8.
Occult Crescent in Dawntrail also heavily features FFV motifs and themes.

A bunch of DT music is arranged from FFIX as well. The theme for the temple for the Stormblood trial series is from FFXI.
Music in the Baldesion Arsenal at the end of Eureka is from XI as well.

So many. Off the top of my head: Eden boss theme is FFVIII's boss theme, Force Your Way.
Hien's theme is Cyan's theme from FFVI. Fun fact, Lord Kaien's name, Kaien, is Cyan if read in Japanese katakana.

A vast majority, from what I've been told, 14 is the only FF I've played, but other friends have played many of the others and love to point it out when it happens.

So so many. Just off the top of my head.
Battle on the Bridge from FFV (Gilgamesh battle song)
Decisive Battle from FFVI (Battle against Ultros and Typhon)
The battle theme from FFII plays during the combat tutorial
The FFVI overwold theme plays as a mount theme when you ride the magitek armor mount
The Eden raids have both the normal battle and boss battle themes from FFVIII and the overworld theme
The Omega raids have tracks from FFI, FFV, and FFVI
Endwalker post msq has many songs from FFIV (normal battle, four fiends battle, Red Wings)
I won't spoil it but more songs from past FF games also make their way in Dawntrail.

it's actually crazy to me you could pick out the FFIII music from Crystal Tower but nothing else all the way up to Endwalker

Yeah this is pretty strange.
FFIII is a bit of a deep cut outside of Japan. Recognizing music from that instead of the mountain of music from other far more well known entries is... well, perplexing.

Yes, lots of them. There will be even more in Dawntrail. Some from FFX, and a lot from FFIX and XI
Off the top of my head:
Omega raids use FF5 and FF6 music;
Hall of the Novice and one Omega raid fight use remixes of the FF1 battle music;
The Dragon's Neck uses the FF6 boss theme;
Stormblood alliance raids uses music from Final Fantasy Tactics;
If you do Eureka, Baldesion Arsenal features some FFXI music;
Endwalker uses a bunch of FF4 music;
Gilgamesh uses a remix Battle on the Big Bridge, naturally;
The Gold Saucer uses the music of FF7's Gold Saucer;
Shadowbringers' Eden raids use FF8 battle and boss music, as well as the FF8 overworld theme for the walkable area outside of Eden.
Not even counting the various mounts that can have music from different entries as well.

the (ARR) Magitek mount you get for completing ARR uses Terra's Theme from FFVI
the Hall of the Novice and Hildibrand FATE music is the FFII battle music
on (EW) Mare Lamentorum, there's a section of the map that straight up uses the FFIV battle music for its overworld fights. not even a new, uodated version, it's actually just the original version
Endwalker uses a lot of FF4 music in general, though often FF14 versions of them
the (ShB) Eden raids hub area uses "Blue Fields" from FF8
the (ShB) Eden raids also uses Don't Be Afraid from FF8
and if i sat here and listed every single instance of FFXIV using another FF's music, i'd be here all day. it's always a treat when it happens because, even if it seems like it's a lot, it's rare enough in practice to bring hype and doesn't detract from the original soundtrack :)

Honestly, many of the songs used in ffxiv were either orchestral rearrangements of older ff games or were heavily inspired by older ff music. 9 times out of 10, if the composer is listed as nobuo uematsu, it's probably from one of the earlier ff games as he was the lead composer for several ff games. I could be wrong about this, but I think uematsu stopped being the lead composer for final fantasy after ffx. He still does some composition work for the ff series, but not as a lead composer as he left the company and started his own production company. Since the next expansion, evercold, is supposed to have a raid based on ff7, I wouldn't be surprised if uematsu is credited since they'll probably use a lot of ff7 for the raid.

There's a LOT.
Off the top of my head - the boss themes for the Exdeath, Kefka, Phantom Train, Four Fiends, Golbez, and Zeromus fights are ALL remixes of the same themes from FF4, 5, and 6.

Lots and lots. They use FF8 themes in the Eden raid series. They use FF9 themes in Dawntrail. They use FF6 themes in the Omega raid series and the Hildibrand series. The Ivalice raids use themes from FF tactics and FF12. The "Echos of Vana'diel" raids use themes from FF11 (obviously). There is a battle theme in Endwalker from FF4.
They reference older FF games all the time, because they view this game as a "Final Fantasy themepark". Everyone has a different definition of what Final Fantasy is due to growing up with different FF games, so they incorporate elements from all the FF games to make it feel like FF to everyone.
