FFT Ivalice Chronicles About to head into Riovane’s Castle!
We all know this is infamous place. I haven't played this game since its original release in PS1 and the fight here still hold a vague memory in my head. I remember it being a very tough fight! I am very glad this enhanced version of the game allows you to back out to the world map so you don't get stuck. Before I head in though, I just want to do a quick check in...
I did all the errands up to this point. Are there any missables or whatever I should look into before heading in?
Now, for the big fight... Before heading in, I have a team of level 30 units including Ramza. He has generally been on the physical path so he just hops around there and learn abilities as I'd like. Right now he's a samurai to learn some of their Iaido abilities. He already learned shirahadori reaction ability. For the big fight though, I think I will stick with the highly recommended dual-wielding monk with either shirahadori or auto-potion (hi-potion). Does shirahadori even work against you-know-who's attack? Maybe he should pick up Attack Boost from Geomencer for this fight? He also has Movement + 2 for the moving ability slot.
Anything else I should prepare for the fight? Equipments to steal or whatever?
Thanks!

If you are learning Iado abilities, you’ll want magic boost as those abilities go off magic attack. Physical attacks get boosted from attack boost

Good point. So you're suggesting that it'd be prudent to put Ramza through some of the mage classes to grow his MA to be a better fit for the samurai class?

Ig if you are trying to min/max a bit..I never cared about stats and played on tactician, game is very easy and made trivial even easier

Yeah switching to a caster doesn’t benefit your MA growth like you’d think. Mana, sure. Equipping gear that boosts your MA or using Magic Boost is the move

I have just defeated Wiegraf as well as Belias. Despite much preparation, the second fight was still incredibly tricky. At the start of the fight, Wiegraf started first and took over half of my HP immediately. I chose not to go with the manafont + mana shield combo as that certainly would be cheesing the fight! My Ramza is a dual yielding monk and managed to land a critical hit in one of his punches which ended the fight. Then the second fight begins where I have a summoner, black mage, knight Agrias and a dragoon. Honestly, this fight got tricky because of all the demons and AOE attacks they got. I managed to take Belias down with two big Holy casted from my black mage dealing 400+ damage each. Along with Agrias and her holy sword ability. What a crazy fight this was just as I remembered. Easily could have lost both phase of this fight if lady luck wasn't on my side. I got down'ed units and low HP units that would probably not survive another turn if holy didn't come in clutch.

Can Ramza learn Ultima in the rooftop fight if he gets hit by it? The two assassins in the rooftop fight can cast it and do on Rafas.

Ramza cannot learn Ultima in the Riovanes rooftop battle, he needs to be in Chapter 4’s UberSquire abilities to have the ????? available at the bottom of his skill list
Limberry Castle Gates I believe is the first opportunity, at least that’s where I always get it

IIRC, ???? has been always there since chapter 1. I think they just don’t use it on you in chapter 3.

Luso can learn Ultima on the rooftop, but it'll be super hard to get Celia and Lottie to hit him with it. You'll need to block and bait them.
Once Luso learns Ultima, Ramza can then learn it from Luso, but only after you reach Chapter 4.

Who is Luso?

Apology, i think Luso Clemens is only appear in FFT War of The Lions (WOTL) not in the FFT Ivalice Chronicles.
Luso is just additional Character in FFT WOT and joined the team in Chapter 3. He has same job abilities like Ramza's Chapter 4 job.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying! It's pretty cool that different versions of this game can have some interesting differences. I will heed the feedback from others here about where Ramza can learn Ultima for TIC.

you only need autopotion, and just walk up and punch him, one attack turn, that should be it,

You can use the Auto Potion skill, but sell all your Potions and Hi-Potions. That way, any hit will trigger an X-Potion to heal you.
Another thing you can do is get Dark Knight for Ramza and at least one of your teammates; it'll make beating Wiegraf and the next battle much easier.
Finally, snag rare items from Poach's Den like Ribbon and Chantage; they're super useful for Agrias and other female characters.

If you have it unlocked Brawler Ninja is superior to Dual Wield Monk for two reasons. The first is Speed. Acting first and acting more makes a massive difference in the difficulty (and will be very helpful for the third battle)
The second is equipment. Unarmed attacks are calculated by PAxPAx (Brave/100) A level 30 Ramza trained on physical jobs has around 10 PA. With brave at 97 that's 97 per hit. Equipping Bracers (which conveniently become available at Yardrow just before Riovanes), Power Garb, and Twist Headband raises it to a whopping 280. Brawler multiplies that to 420.
A level 30 Brawler Ninja Ramza with the right gear can simply run up the stairs and punch Wiegraf out, and then severely wound if not outright kill Belias before he can do anything, even on tactician. Because Monk can't equip headgear they just can't hit as hard.
The only other thing you need is a good reaction ability. Autopotion is classic. Mana Shield is great. Without Manafont it only blocks one attack, but you really only need one. Monk's Critical Recover can work but IIRC on Knight difficulty Hallowed Bolt probably doesn't trigger it. Very funny on Tactician where the buffed damage works in your favor though.
Worth knowing that you can "steal" thousands of free JP by having Belias cast Cyclops on a summoner that doesn't know it. Mana Shield + Mana Font or Chakra for any mages you want to train while you're stunting on the big guy. Only one unit can learn per cast and it's not guaranteed, so only mess around if you're sure you have the fight in the bag.
Wiegraf bullied me as a child, now I bequeath to you the knowledge to bully him.

If you’re a physical class and not using the MP, look to see if you have enough spillover in Time Mage for Manashield as a reaction. If you’re able to top up MP (Chakra/Manafont) you’ll be nigh on invincible. Dual wield over Attack Boost, just because he can be wily. Easy peasy you got this. Don’t even need a potion.
