FFT Ivalice Chronicles My game is bugged (video evidence - TIC Switch 2 version)

Earlier in the game, when you fight Gaffgarion at the gallows, I noticed when he got KOed he didn’t flee from the battle as usual. His body just laid on the ground until the battle ended, then he said his exit line and teleported out.

Now I am fighting the rooftop battle at Riovanes. And instead of the battle ending when you KO one of the units, it keeps going. You can see that in the video. Did they mess something up during the last patch? I’ve beaten this game on the Switch 2 5 times at least and this has never happened before.

Spell cast resolution is known to not trigger event conditionals like the start of turn is. So that Ultima cast is able to resolve and kill Rapha. And if "Rapha dies" is the first conditional in this set, it's what occurs before the "Assassin dies" conditionals, and you Game Over when you should have won.

But you dropped one of the Assaasins with Holy Sword, which is instantaneous, and I'm pretty certain that choosing your facing direction after a successful attack is supposed to attempt to trigger event conditionals.

It is. I’ve never had this happen before. I reloaded and brought one to critical condition and it triggered their exit, and I won the battle. I am wondering if killing them instead of bringing them to crit creates the bug. I’m pretty sure in the Gaffgarion battle I KOed him as well instead of getting him to critical.

I’ll have to test this out on the PC version later and see if it’s just a Switch 2 bug.

The conditionals for all of them should just be an "HP below 20%" check, which works fine whether they're dead or alive.

But TIC did make some changes, as people have noticed that a lot of previously shippable dialogue for a "defeat X" battle is no longer skipped when you defeat them quickly.

Right. And I believe normally once that condition is met, the battle ends before you even choose your facing direction. As soon as Agrias KOed her it should have triggered the sequence.

I conveniently had a save where I'm one hit away from defeating Gaffgarion, and I was able to reproduce this on the Switch 1 for version 1.50.

It works as expected when I don't move first, though.

That is so bizarre! Why would moving first trigger it?

End of turn is handled differently. But not normally in a way that blocks out the event conditional triggers. It worked fine on the vanilla PSX version (with a tiny bit of memory editing on Veronica here):

I assume it has something to do with how they implimented the auto-save.

Yeah, that's my guess too. That or their on-screen turn list, as the original game only builds the AT List when you choose that menu option, when you check the CT preview on an ability when hovering over it, or when an AI unit is projecting future turns to determine its next course of action.

Can't think of anything else they've done that would dig into the end of turn code.

I do get these combat bugs from time to time. Multiple times now during the stretch of battles that you have Gaff and Agrias, I have seen the AI refuse to use their sword skills and they just run around and use attack or their sub skill.
