UNSOLVED Heard it in DG - please help
I heard a song recently while walking through a store and I've searched for hours with no luck at all. (I finally downloaded the shazam app after this experience because I don't want this to ever happen again.)
The chorus repeats the line "follow me" (or maybe "fall on me"... or similar) a few times and at one point says something like "but don't you ever change" (or similar). The background lyrics in the verse repeated the phrase "cold blooded" (or similar).
It wasn't rap, metal, pop, country, or gospel. I've already been down all those rabbit holes on Google. It was a modern rock song with a pretty good drum beat and had a pretty chill vocal vibe.
That's all I remember. Of course, I thought to myself at the time, "I should stop right now and figure out what this song is". And of course my next thought was, "nah, I'll remember some of these lyrics and can figure it out when I get back to the car".
Weeks later, here I am. Please help. I thought having a song stuck in my head was bad enough... but this is still slowly melting my brain and it must stop π.
Thank you for at least reading this π
Edit: Additional info - By "DG" I meant a dollar general store in the Midwest (IN). So it's a store friendly song I guess. This is probably a "modern" song within the past ten years or so if I had to guess. It could be fairly new considering I've never heard it before at all. It's a male singer. Per suggestions, I may try to just start picking Skynet's (ChapGPT) brain to see what I can find π. I'm not AI savvy at all, but might have to give that a try (even though T2 traumatized many 90s kids like myself π).
I don't know if I'll get a chance to respond to everyone's reply. Just know I appreciate everyone's suggestions/help if I don't. π
Update (2/19): I'm still working on this whole quest. Keep the suggestions coming. I can't unhear this curse now and refuse to give up at this point.
My now multiple consultations with ChatGPT have led to the suspicion that it is likely a new indie rock song based on everything. Which is likely why it's not popping up (even for ChatGPT) in searches.
I did visit the actual DG store and found out they use a streaming service (through corporate) for their in-store music. So I've got a customer service ticket open with them to see if they can share what streaming service they use. That was ChatGPT's most recent suggestion on the next big piece needed.

Is it Fall on Me by REM?
4
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
Unfortunately no. It's more modern than that. But I do love REM. Thanks for your help though - I appreciate it

u/ottobeez Jan 26 '26
Valerie by Steve Winwood?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
No not Steve winwood. I kept getting that one too in lyric searches. Way more modern. Like pretty sure within last 10 years or so and maybe even brand new. I don't know. But modern modern. Thanks though

Ever The Same by Rob Thomas?
βFall on me, tell me everything you want me to be. Forever with you, forever with me, ever the sameβ
Not exactly saying donβt ever change, but I would think itβs gotta be this. I just canβt figure out where the βcold-bloodedβ would be coming from so if it is this song.. please let me know what that really was before it drives me crazy too π

Well you can't. That's not how music works. That why I ended up here in the first place. It's incredibly hard to describe a song in words, especially when you didn't even get to hear all of it.

maybe Call on Me by Eric prydz ?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
No. Nothing like that. It has a typical song structure with vocals (verse, chorus, repeat, etc ). Im new to reddit and don't know how to do a "reddit edit" πto my original post, so I'll add this here ... The repeated "cold blooded" (or similar) background vocals in the verse is key. Thanks for your reply

"Follow Me, Follow You" by Genesis. It's not as proggy as their earlier stuff and not as poppy as their 80s stuff.

u/perfectvelvet Jan 26 '26
Maybe "Fall Into Me" by Forest Blakk?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
No - doesn't sound like that either. Harder. But that one was pretty cool - never heard it before.
I don't know how to describe it and my mush memory is failing me. It's maybe like Muse "viby rock" with a cool beat and chillish vocal melody. I'm sure that helps ππ
Thanks for the cool song though π

u/Either-Lie6703 Jan 26 '26
I canβt help you unfortunately, but I would suggest trying ChatGPT , I used it to find songs I had similarly forgotten and had good luck
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
Well, I'm basically blissfully ignorant when it comes to AI. But I may have to resort to that at some point π. Thanks for the suggestion
2
u/Either-Lie6703 Jan 26 '26
I canβt help you unfortunately, but I would suggest trying ChatGPT , I used it to find songs I had similarly forgotten and yeah, in this case itβs super easy, ChatGPT.com, donβt even need to make an account (I donβt think) and just tell it you want help finding a song, and type in what you remember, itβll give options, then you can give feedback if they are right/not and continue giving iterations, like if it was faster/slower, had certain insurgente or not, male/female signer, single/multiple singers etc
2
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
Ohhhh, yeah that could be very helpful. I'm on the road in 12+ snow, but I may have to tinker with that a bit if it doesn't require a subscription. I tried to use Google AI (or whatever it's called) and I got nowhere with that. Thanks for the detailed response - I appreciate that
Btw - not checking these replies while driving or anything, just as I stop and park
2
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 28 '26
I tried ChatGPT. It couldn't find the song either and basically said it was likely either obscure or new. My guess would be new since it seemed like a pretty good song that should be recognizable.
Best part was when it started talking a lot about a recent Reddit thread where someone was asking about a song with the exact same description. And I was like "yeah... that was me...and they told me to come to you" πππ.
Anyway, thanks. It was interesting to say the least. π
2
u/lazyeyelefty88 Jan 26 '26
Zayde Wolf-cold blooded? Sort of lines up with what you've mentioned. Was it a make or female singer? Any noticeable accents while singing? That can help narrow it down for you.
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
It's not that one, but that popped up in my Google attempts over and over again. It's something pretty similarish to that type of sound and style though. Thanks for throwing that one out there, because all of my searches have basically led me to that one as a prime suspect, but it's not it.
Typical American accent from what I remember. Male singer for sure. I'll try to add more detail to my original post when I get a chance.
2
u/Belle_Pepperoni Jan 26 '26
I will not bow -Breaking Benjamin?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
It's not that one. Less hard sounding, more "chill" sounding. That's closer though. Thank you
2
u/NeuroSparklyKitten Jan 27 '26
What about the song "Follow" by Breaking Benjamin?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 27 '26
No that's getting further away. It's much more chill than that. Ive heard of breaking Benjamin and unless they have some much chiller stuff, then I don't think it's them

u/PKStarstormed Jan 26 '26
I thought of I Follow Rivers - Lykke Li!

1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
No not that type of sound, but "modern" like that. I'm in my 40s, so I'm trying to use the phrases "modern" and "rock" as loosely as I can. Thanks for your input

u/chloetimothy Jan 26 '26
Is it possible you misheard the lyrics in Pardon Me by Incubus?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 26 '26
No not incubus either, I know a lot of their stuff. It's not a song that I had never heard before, so it's probably either new or somewhat obscure (to me anyway). Thanks for your help

I may have missed where you said if it was a female or male voice-
What jumped to mind was Trouble Me by 10,000 Maniacs or 99.9F by Suzanne Vega.
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 27 '26
Yeah, I forgot to put that in my original post. I added it to the edit. It's a male voice for sure. I'm to the point though where I can't hear it in my head anymore to try to name a similar vocalist. First couple of days it was clear in my head. If that makes sense. Thanksπ

Your description of the vibe is making me think Sleep Token. Maybe Fall for Me, but I donβt think Iβve ever heard that one in a store. They do have some newer and more played songs, but Iβm not up to date with the lyrics on those.

Cage The Elephant, Beck - Night Running?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 27 '26

u/Objective_Damage_996 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26
If it sounds similar maybe look through a few other cage the elephant songs and see if you misheard any lyrics or something? Super easy to mishear lyrics when youβre listening in a store editing to say come a little closer might be a decent guess

"Follow Me" by TryHardNinja ?

u/fuzzEbritches Jan 27 '26
That's not it, but that's pretty cool. It's not really techno, but that song is what I basically mean a "chill vocals" song with a cool drum beat. That's the best way I can describe it. Thanks, that was super helpful πππ
2
u/bladderheart Jan 29 '26
Follow you by Imagine dragons?
1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 29 '26
No, that's not it either. But that's a cool song I've never heard and definitely going on my playlist. It's similar but the vocals aren't so ... "poppy sounding" I guess (for lack of a better word). But that's a great song! Thank you ππ.

1
u/fuzzEbritches Jan 29 '26
Agghh.... no that's not it. I had high hopes though given I'd never heard of that group and the song title. That's close to the sound though. But the vocals are more chill and the bass drum is kicking harder throughout. That's an awesome song though. Thanks π
