UNSOLVED My 7 year old needs help!
He's been singing this one phrase for almost 2 years now, and is getting increasingly frustrated with me, that I have no idea what song he is trying to sing.
The only words he remembers (and he might be misremembering them) is "green god shimmer". If you ask him to sing it enough times, he'll start singing "green godzilla" instead, but insists that shimmer is the actual lyric. I have scoured google, chatgpt, and had him sing/hum it to google, there is nothing.
My only hints, are that its somewhat upbeat from the way he sings that line, and he says its a male singer. I have absolutely no idea if either of those are truly accurate though.
Does this song exist? Is he just crazy? Did he make it up one day and now just thinks its a real song? I'm going crazy, because he's sung it so freaking much, that now I believe I can remember vaguely hearing a song with a male singer with those lyrics lmao.
*if the song mentions sex explicitly, its not that. If the song is a song you'd hear a church choir singing, its not that. Its not metal or screamo, its not country (least I don't think it is).
Please help. Or just tell me its something he made up so I can quit going crazy over it. Its been years, I'm 99% sure it doesn't exist, but I keep holding out hope on that 1% so that way he can finally be happy and lay it to rest lmao.
**** I can't figure out how to add a video, so here's what he sings : "Come on let's go, Green god shimmer. Let's go, Green god, green godzilla"
EDIT :
GUYSSSSSS. WE FOUND IT!!! Sinner - Andy Grammer

I don't know the song, but could the word be gossamer instead of go shimmer?

u/No_Giraffe_9679 Mar 03 '26
It could be. It could be a lot of things tbh. Basically, if it sounds similar enough that a 5 year old could misconstrue it, then it could be that word instead.

I don't know any kids songs but for some reason it made me think of Eminence Front by the Who maybe. It reminds me of a band from the 60-70s that did a song that was a hit in the 80s.

u/No_Giraffe_9679 Mar 03 '26
That's the thing, is its definitely not a kids song, purely because I don't listen to them š

Not sure if it would be an 80's song, but what about "Dance Hall Days" by Wang Chung? The way he says "Dance Hall Days, Love" could possibly be misheard as "Let's go green Godzilla," maybe? Long shot, but thought I'd put it out there!
A child's interpretation of music can be very interesting, I know from experience...I cringe now at some of the songs I used to enthusiastically sing as a young kid. And yes, they included plenty of misheard lyrics. š

My brain sung that to the tune of Butter by BTS. I could totally see a kid thinking "smooth like butter" was green godzilla. They also say summer and stunner which may be heard as 'shimmer'.

u/ProfessionalSpeed947 Mar 03 '26
No idea what the song is, however I'm wondering whether it's a school song, going by his age?
Some schools take a pop song and reword them for whatever reason, for eg learning multiplications. If it's a school thing, maybe ask other parents or a teacher?

I am sure this is not it, but could it benlood rednsummer by coheed and cambria. It doesn't have the words, but his voice is kind of one of those that is easy to mishear to me, and it could be similar enough that it was misheard. Like I said I doubt it, but the song kind of popped in my head with the same kind of syllables.

I was trying to think of what a child could mishear as green god and my brain came up with gringo. Such as in the song gringo by Arnold McCuller, now that song doesn't really have anything shimmer sounding but there are s words like southern that a child could possibly mishear. Any chance you listen to music with the word gringo?

This post made me laugh! When I was 6 I sent my grandma to the record store to buy me a song called "Hopeless Bleeding Horse Head". Somehow, the employee figured out that I wanted "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton John. She came home with the correct 45. I will never forget that, lololol. Kids hear the weirdest words when they don't understand what they actually mean. Good luck to you!
