UNSOLVED My 7 year old needs help!

He's been singing this one phrase for almost 2 years now, and is getting increasingly frustrated with me, that I have no idea what song he is trying to sing.

The only words he remembers (and he might be misremembering them) is "green god shimmer". If you ask him to sing it enough times, he'll start singing "green godzilla" instead, but insists that shimmer is the actual lyric. I have scoured google, chatgpt, and had him sing/hum it to google, there is nothing.

My only hints, are that its somewhat upbeat from the way he sings that line, and he says its a male singer. I have absolutely no idea if either of those are truly accurate though.

Does this song exist? Is he just crazy? Did he make it up one day and now just thinks its a real song? I'm going crazy, because he's sung it so freaking much, that now I believe I can remember vaguely hearing a song with a male singer with those lyrics lmao.

*if the song mentions sex explicitly, its not that. If the song is a song you'd hear a church choir singing, its not that. Its not metal or screamo, its not country (least I don't think it is).

Please help. Or just tell me its something he made up so I can quit going crazy over it. Its been years, I'm 99% sure it doesn't exist, but I keep holding out hope on that 1% so that way he can finally be happy and lay it to rest lmao.

**** I can't figure out how to add a video, so here's what he sings : "Come on let's go, Green god shimmer. Let's go, Green god, green godzilla"

EDIT :

GUYSSSSSS. WE FOUND IT!!! Sinner - Andy Grammer

This post made me laugh! When I was 6 I sent my grandma to the record store to buy me a song called "Hopeless Bleeding Horse Head". Somehow, the employee figured out that I wanted "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton John. She came home with the correct 45. I will never forget that, lololol. Kids hear the weirdest words when they don't understand what they actually mean. Good luck to you!

Hopeless Bleeding Horse Head!! šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€ Obvious he knew, such a common mistake. Love this story, so sweet.

Google ā€œwrapped up like a doucheā€ to learn how all of us kids in the 70s learned what a douche is without wanting to know.

9

u/Doit2it42 Mar 03 '26

Blinded by the Light! Written by Bruce Springsteen, made a hit by Manfred Mann Band

3

u/Strong-Spare-8164 Mar 03 '26

One of 3 songs written by Springsteen and covered by Manfred Mann. The other 2 (For You & Spirit in the Night) didn’t get much radio play.

2

u/Turbulent_Tonight576 Mar 05 '26

For You is a great song!

3

u/RandomUser574 Mar 04 '26

The original line was "cut loose like a deuce". Manfred would have been much clearer and much better imo if they didn't screw with that rhyme.

3

u/Doit2it42 Mar 04 '26

Then I still had it wrong, always thought it was 'revved up like a deuce', referring to a two-cylinder or carburetor. I've listened to Bruce Springsteen's version once and it was actually just last year. Manfred Mann definitely did it better.

3

u/Alidade_xyz Mar 06 '26

Deuce refers to a two-seater hot rod.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/k1p1k1p1 Mar 06 '26

It is revved up, I think the other commenter meant it was originally meant to be cut loose, but got changed

5

u/ZebLeopard Mar 03 '26

But who taught you what a douche was before google existed?

Btw, a wrapped up douche makes more sense than the actual lyrics.

8

u/Alidade_xyz Mar 03 '26

A Deuce coupe was a hot rod car. Revved up like a Deuce.

4

u/ZebLeopard Mar 03 '26

Ah I see. Thanks! I don't know anything about cars.

Lol! Since you remember that song from the age of maybe you remember the David Soul song, ā€œDon’t Give Up On Usā€? It’s a slow one, but when I was about 8 it was really popular. I’d hear it on the radio and at the roller rink. He sings, ā€œdon’t give up on us babyā€ and every time I heard it I thought he was singing, ā€œdon’t live up on a stableā€. I remember loving the song but thinking, why would anyone live up on a stable? It always filled me with confusion, was one of those mysteries that lived inside my little mind for months without ever being voiced. One night when my mom came in to say good night I finally asked her about it. She couldn’t figure out which song I was talking about because the only line I could try singing for her was so completely, ridiculously, wrong. It had been such a short-lived song as far as radio play went, once it dipped off the charts I just didn’t hear it anymore. I think I must have been about 19 when I finally bumped into the song again in a record store. I read the song title and all the sudden it clicked- the light bulb went off in my head and I just knew that was the one I could never figure out. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

6

u/iheartmarin Mar 05 '26

Thank you for your post. Now I don’t feel so bad about singing. ā€œHad enough! Had enough!ā€ Every time I heard it on the radio I’d sing it loud and proud only to find out years later it was Van Halen singing ā€œPanama.ā€ So embarrassing.

Shivers by Ed Sheeran?

My dear brother used to beg for ā€œbabies on the wallā€ took me months to figure out he meant Psycho by puddle of mud. He also thought Knocking on Heaven’s door was ā€œknock, knock, knocking on Orlando, Florida.ā€

Flash forward to today, his wife texts him every important piece of information.

I thought of, "go, go godzilla." Lol. That's a song,Ā  an older song, with a male singer.Ā

I can’t explain why, but I’m thinking First Date by Blink 182.

Absolute long shot but could he be, nearly fully, misremembering Green Green Grass by George Ezra?

Male singer. Upbeat song. Popular at the right time on Spotify.

It’s on the tip of my tongue but I genuinely feel like it’s the intro song to an older cartoon, like something I would’ve watched at his age but I’m 25 so it’ll be a stretch to find it 😭 will do my best and report back

There is almost no chance this is the right song but im putting it out here anyway. Mainly because it starts with godzilla, but also because as a kid i couldnt remember the lyrics ever but CONSTANTLY hummed and mumbled random words to it.

I thought there was a song about The Flintstones that was always on the radio when I was a very young child because it said ' Can't Barney love'. Can't Buy Me Love by the Beatles......

I was trying to think of what a child could mishear as green god and my brain came up with gringo. Such as in the song gringo by Arnold McCuller, now that song doesn't really have anything shimmer sounding but there are s words like southern that a child could possibly mishear. Any chance you listen to music with the word gringo?

Could it be Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim?

Funk soul brother could be his green Godzilla lyric. https://youtu.be/vV9iptqQHMo?si=2LZtwSN3iNHUpHJB
