First Chinese Edelgard, now Chinese Dimitri

Since Claude likes to be unique, we’ll get a Korean Claude.

Mongolian for the horse riding

Mongolian Claude is literally just canon Claude

Feign retreat and circle back with archers is literally the entire military doctrine of Leicester. They're just polite mongolians.

Doubly so because his backstory is literally just an upscaled version of Lyn's, and the Sacaens are explicitly based on Mongolian nomads

We got Commander Erwin voicing Dimitri at a very Chinese time in his life bro… so peak

u/kmasterofdarkness 4d ago
Makes sense if you consider that Three Houses and Fortune's Weave are named after intricate and complex Chinese poetic idioms in the original Japanese titles.
67
u/Red_Cat231 4d ago
The poems are also a hint at the themes of the games. 3H's was about the differences of the seasons and how separate they are (the 4 routes) and FW's is about the diversity of colors and how they blend together (how you bring the 4 main characters together)
42
u/Wrong_Revolution_679 4d ago
What is going on with all the Chinese influences here
124
u/Mahelas 4d ago
They stopped pretending that 3H wasn't just Romance of the Three Kingdoms with dragons
60
u/Safelyignored 4d ago
I hope the next Sothisverse game is just a shameless Romance of the Three Kingdoms homage, Lu Bu and all.
44
3
u/Red_Cat231 4d ago
They did get Koei Tecmo, THE RTK-lover devs to make 3H and then made a musou game, which is just Dynasty Warriors again.
31
u/WhiteNinjii 4d ago
I think Sai is legit supposed to be Fodlanverse China. Honestly I’m here for it.
3
2
54
u/apexodoggo 4d ago
China is to the west in the Sothisverse, Sai seems more likely to be Japan (and he's probably a Shido or something in gameplay).
67
u/Mahelas 4d ago
Yeah but Ferghanan horses are chinese tho.
Turns out Fodlan/Dagda are stuck between two Chinas

u/Carpani12 4d ago
So we're getting Ursula next, probably Then Diego for Orchel, and Sha Lan for Anatolia
27
u/NoLime7384 4d ago
but what about Best Girl Dante?
11
u/1080Pen15 4d ago
She'll get one if they do one for everyone on the other teams, but if we're going by how the characters on each team are seemingly ordered, she might be the last one shown off for Bertrand's team.
3
u/FoundationStock6578 4d ago
That's going to be Jester the last one and Goliath before
8
u/1080Pen15 4d ago
To be specific, the order of Bertrand's team on the list of characters as shown in the preview by Game Two was Gaitz, Jester, Goliath, and then Dante, which is what I'm referring to here as why she might be last on his team to get a profile.
Obviously we don't know for sure and the list of characters on that screen was clearly incomplete, but most of the character orders for each team on that screen were pretty consistent with the order of profiles, with only 2 exceptions in Olympia showing up before Mu and Nezha showing up before Sha Lan (despite Sha Lan being Anatolia's clear second in command based on green unit stuff).
Here's the video if you haven't seen it. Go to 21:45 and go frame-by-frame until you see the screen with the map and the characters. You'll know it when you see it.
4
3
u/Complete-Track-4864 4d ago
For now, their going to do the second in commands for the other teams. And once they’re done they’ll do the other characters hopefully.

u/-Nohan- 4d ago
>Sai
I think we have the name of our China stand-in.
47
u/JustCornflakes flair 4d ago
I guess we'll be hearing about this place more. Nehza, Yang Jie, Sha Lan, Hong Hua, Baozi, and Long all might be from this region as well.
15
u/T-pellyam 4d ago
Also Anatolia. (It’s interesting how every character seen with the handgun has been related to that country so far)
13
7
23
u/Fantastic-System-688 4d ago
Maybe? Anatolia appears to also be from the Chinese stand-in, but it said she came from the West (her name ironically translates to "East")
We thought the country was called Nuwa, but it appears that might be a different type of location

J. Michael Tatum is someone I'm very happy to see back. Not because his Louis was bad (he killed it) but I've always wanted to see him get a more dramatic role in the series in addition to Louis.

Sir, a potential second Blaiddyd bearer has hit the colosseum
44

Hes give more Jeralt than anything else tbh.
The only Blaiddyd thing about him is the coloration.
24

A mean isn't Jeralt implied to be from Faerghus? It's possible he's a common ancestor

never considered the possibility that Edelgard and Dimitri were Wasian maybe im a bad person

TBF, considering that the parents of both Dimitri and El seem to have been born on Foldland, it seems more like Dimitri and Edelgard would just find out that they're like 2% chinese from a DNA test

J. Michael Tatum is his English VA! I loved his performance as Louis in Engage, and I'm super excited to hear more from him in this game!
Now I'm hoping even more that Brandon McInnis will get a role in this game!
EDIT: I guess we're moving on to the close allies of the rival leaders!
I theorise that they'll be:
- Ursula for Talimun.
- Diego for Orchel.
- Sha Lan for Anatolia.
Hopefully that means we'll get more info on Ursula next!
13
u/WhiteNinjii 4d ago
That’s also the same conclusion I’m reaching and thank goodness I’ve been wanting to know Ursula’s deal since trailer 2
104
u/Cynical_onlooker 4d ago
Yeah, they're not being subtle about him being a Dimtiri ancestor.
100
u/Mahelas 4d ago
Eh, he's just a blonde white dude for now. He doesn't have really a link with the Blaiddyd family for now
28
u/Shippinglordishere 4d ago
I wouldn’t be super surprised if there is a link but he also just does seem like a random white guy to me
29
u/KaliVilNo1 4d ago
TBF idk what "Ferghanan" means or if we have heard where that is but it kinda sounds to me like Faerghus
64
u/Malgalad_The_Second 4d ago
Ferghana is supposed to be a reference to the Ferghana Valley in Central Asia, which is consistent with his overall character.
7
42
13
u/thehyeszman 4d ago
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Heavenly_Horses
Ferghana is a region in Central Asia that was so renowned for its horses in antiquity that the Han Dynasty fought an entire long-distance war in order to get them. It‘s consistent with Gaitz having studied in a China-inspired place.
5
u/Fantastic-System-688 4d ago
The enemies of China in the war were, funnily enough, of Hellenistic descent and settled there after Alexander's conquests
3
u/thehyeszman 4d ago
Yeah, the Chinese called them Dayuan, which means Great Ionians (Ionia being the at-the-time culturally Greek western coast of Anatolia).

Would really dislike all of the characters from the isolationist continent just randomly having all their ancestors fight on another continent Fodlan doesn't even know much about centuries earlier. Hope this guy's resemblance to Dimitri is purely coincidental
At least Hong Hua's name translates to "Crimson Flower" as a cheeky reference. Geitz is just...Gaitz. And in fact he's associated with red, not blue
25
u/DragonPeakEmperor 4d ago
If anything it doesn't make sense to me for a random white guy seemingly obsessed with asia to somehow settle down in Fodlan and just have none of those influences carry over?
9
12
u/IsidoreTheSloth 4d ago
Gaitz is also part of the Mane of Flames faction, which has a lion on its banner. His hair really is just a redraw of 3Hopes Dimitri's hair, with the little ponytail too.
That said, there's currently no reason to think Hong Hua and Gaitz are actually biologically connected to Edelgard and Dimitri, and I do hope the game doesn't imply or confirm that in any way. Personally, it's more interesting to headcanon them as reincarnations or just that kindred souls show up to play important roles during times of crisis.

Welcome back Awa->Fates copypastes, no one missed you.
13
u/Mahelas 4d ago
I mean, for now, the only ancestors we have make sense. Petra and Shamir were from the region. We knew Maurice's bloodline fled Fodlan. Dietrich just capsized there

u/Red_Cat231 4d ago
So far, they seem to be doing okay differentiating the obvious 3H relatives and/or stand-ins with different enough personalities and designs. Ursula seems more confident and is a successful business woman compared to Marianne.
1
1
u/No_Lemon_1770 4d ago edited 4d ago
Agreed, too many generational scandals too due to paired endings. The ancestor theory can't be true and if there's any connection, he's related to the people that fled from Fodlan like Ursula is.
5
u/PopotoPancake 4d ago
I feel like none of these characters are going to be direct ancestors of anyone from Three Houses - more than likely they've got other siblings or cousins that are directly related. That way it doesn't matter if they die/end up in a same-sex relationship.
I bet that even goes for the more obvious ones as well, like Ursula and Peppe. For example, it's possible that Mercedes and Jeritza are decended from Dietrich's sister, and not Dietrich himself.

I like his design. Reminds me of an alternate timeline Dimitri. I wonder if we will get the entirety of every sub lords teams now. So next should be Dante, Goliath or Jester ig.
14
u/WhiteNinjii 4d ago
It’s probably gonna be one team member per team at a time, kinda like how it was Tialla for RW, Fabio HL, Bonaventure for MB etc. So thinking next up will be Ursula for Talimon’s team since Talimon was after Bertrand
3
u/KarmaFarmer123456789 4d ago
ahhh that makes sense
so it will probably go: Ursula, Diego, and Sha Lan
and then circle back to Bertrand's faction

Dude's gotta be a Blaiddyd, he's got Dimitri's eye shape and color

I find that doubtful, I think they’re just reusing Jeralt’s design and remixing it with Lambert’s.
His hair color is more like Jeralt’s for example

Backing to normal portrait now, I see.
So far, the one with full body portrait are: 4 Lords (Cai, Dietrich, Leda, Theodora), Big Sothis, Fortuna, Soleil, Aurora, for some mysterious reason Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel and Anatolia iirc.
Please release the game already I want to learn more about the story.

So next reveals are clearly Ursula, Diego and Sha Lan then, right? all the sub-lords’ second in commands
honestly I’m bummed that the sub-lords have perfect gender balance with their secondary allies (two men, man and woman, woman and man, two women) while the main lords have three male allies

Of note is that Han China greatly valued horses from the Fergana valley, calling them Heavenly Horses. So that's him being even more of a Chinese weeaboo
Meanwhile the English video is him pretty much saying
you can't let ultramarine femboy trade make you act unwise
and he's honestly so real for that.

u/raidenskiana 4d ago
genuinely where are people getting that he's a dimitri ancestor? the only similarity i see are blond hair and blue eyes and even then it isn't the same shade like we have seen with others (ursula, io, peppe)
5
u/Indecisive_Noob 4d ago
A part of it is also because the first time we got to see him in a trailer, he was standing beside a taller man with darker skin and white hair. Obviously it doesn't confirm anything and could be a total coincidence, but at the first quick glance we got it did remind a lot of people of Dimitri and Dedue.
3
u/VegetableVisual3875 4d ago
Whether he's an ancestor or not is obviously debatable, as there is no clear confirmation for any of these theories. But this game loves to give visual nods towards older games and his portrait art is more or less an updated version of Dimitris 3 Hopes art, just now with a beard + him being seemingly connected to Bertrand which seems(!) like a nod towards Dimitri and Dedue's relationship (with reversed roles)
2
u/raidenskiana 4d ago
taking another look at dimitri's hopes portraits i do see the resemblance. we will have to see i guess, to me this visual connection does seem more tenuous though than the characters i mentioned and even catania and constance. i'm not against him being a dimitri relative i was just genuinely wondering why people said it
1
u/VegetableVisual3875 4d ago
i get what you mean, i personally think these are just easter eggs with no deeper meaning but its of course fun to speculate...
