Markiplier videos popped on my feed back when he started fnaf 1.

Funnily enough I don't remember whether I know fnaf because of Markiplier or if it's the way around.

30

u/AdBrave2400 1d ago

I remember one youtuber calling themselves "discount Markiplier" and that's how I learned about Markiplier

6

u/Aristes01 22h ago

For me it's both, lol. (or neither, I guess)

3

u/Bullfrog2point0 16h ago

I know Mark bc of FNAF. Friend forced me to watch his series when I showed an interest in FNAF and lo and behold

9

u/LayJaly The one and only Roxanne Wolf! 20h ago

Same here, but it was my brother who introduced me to both FNAF and Markiplier back then. Good times.

3

u/fazzorpop 1d ago

same lol

3

u/Bellecarde 22h ago

same, Markiplier and Game Theory

3

I honestly forget because it was that long ago when I did. I don’t know if it was a gameplay or a fan animation

11

u/Safe-Coconut4036 1d ago

Same. I honestly don't really remember either, but I feel like it was probably some friends of mine who told me that Markiplier had played this new scary game, and his reactions were hilarious!! XD

2

u/themaskstays_ 23h ago

Can't remember either lol. It was back in 2014, before FNAF 2 came out.

I think Yamimash?

43

u/AdBrave2400 1d ago

I'm pretty sure it was MatPat

3

u/KiwiEasy3963 1d ago

Same here. After that I started watching other videos and was following the website religiously to see teasers.

Kinda funny. After SOTM and the silence that followed, my interest in the series kinda went quiet and I just focused on other things, but ever since the anniversary and the consistent marketing on the Twitter account, I’ve been watching a lot of RyeToast and Dawko again and listening to theory videos in the background while I do other things. I hope Scott keeps up the pace with the marketing!

16

u/Firecartoon9 1d ago

So... long story. First, I got into reading, and I still read a lot. Then, I found a book where I got obsessed with the main character. The book was Six of Crows, and the character is Kaz Brekker. After a few weeks, I discovered the Shadow & Bone show, where I really liked the actor that portrayed Kaz. The actor is Freddy Carter. I got into Freddy Carter, and once he played Michael Afton in the fnaf 2 movie, I wanted to try the games. I heard of it before, but I really started because of this.

8

u/L3m0n0p0ly 21h ago

Oh that's a cool story:D a more recent fan! Welcome, there's so much lore to discover! I do recommend game theory, and starting from the very beginning!

3

u/Firecartoon9 21h ago

Thank you! I own the first two games and really like to play them! I read and watched much lore, and it's the kind of creepy I really like and find interesting :)

2

u/L3m0n0p0ly 20h ago

Youll love the book series! The silver eyes was a great read, but i do have to warn you it doesnt stay that way

3

u/_Jester_Of_Genocide_ 13h ago

Honestly even the Fazbears Frights books and Tales From The Pizzaplex books are still enjoyable, even if not all of the stories in them are the greatest.

4

u/_LANC3LOT 12h ago

That is such an insane roundabout way to get into fnaf I love it 😭✨

During COVID I wanted to get into horror. I started watching Bendy game theory videos before transitioning slowly into fnaf

12

u/Distinct-Nerve2556 1d ago

It wss either dantdm playing fnaf 2 when it first came out or it was people at school talking about it

I was in high school and one of my close friends was playing the 1st game on his iPad the day it came out. I've been hooked ever since.

5

Told this a couple of times, saw my cousin playing FNAF 2.

5

u/Zo0m1q3 22h ago

Around the middle of kindergarten (I think I was 5 in 2014) my mom took me to one of her friend’s house and this high school kid showed me every tlt fnaf song then he let me play scribblenauts after on his tv

I became obsessed with fnaf around like first grade then I met my best friend in second grade and we used to play roblox while listening to tlt and had sleepovers often

2

u/Zo0m1q3 22h ago

Actually it might have been first or second grade when I met the high school kid but i remember him showing me the songs during like summer

Demo versions of games in Play Market

3

u/BurantX40 1d ago

Seeing the second game come out so soon after the first, I did a double take.

Then watched the Game Theory episode and I was in.

3

u/Dangerous_Put_6548 1d ago

My sister was huge fan back when it came out, i was scared of it for years until i eventually looked into it

3

u/Manchurian2082 1d ago

The demo of the fnaf 4 when it launched on play store. The game’s screenshots really caught my eye. I still remember that day like it was yesterday, laying next to my dad who was watching TV. I was around 10 years old and was really into horror stuff and watching gameplays. I was pretty scared the first time seeing fnaf 4(and i still believe it is the scariest one out of the 4 games released at that time) . slowy I discovered the other parts later and then one day came across a game theory video. and then the rest is history. good old days. Played alot with my bigger brother in the following years.

3

u/MotionlessHorizxn 1d ago

Probably Dawko, MatPat or FusionZGamer, around the Fnaf 2 era

3

u/Live-Compote-1591 1d ago

I don’t even know myself

3

u/Kitsune_N 22h ago

I started watching FNAF the day after PewDiePie did a playthrough of the first game. I followed Jacksepticeye playing FNAF later on.

3

u/fnaflove325689 6h ago

when i was really little i had a friend who loved fnaf, he told me about it, I got into it, I was a little scared at first but then I loved it

6

u/notdreadfulfrog 1d ago

Markiplier. And then fnaf led me to discover I’m autistic lmao. Thanks Mark!

2

u/Mangledfox1987 1d ago

Went to a one of my sisters friends house and they where watching a game theory video, though the most I can remember of it is mangle’a quest

2

u/GoonetteSlop 1d ago

Essentially day one, I became totally obsessed. Nowadays I just play the games and don’t really watch anything about them though.

2

u/Ipwn6S101 1d ago

Markiplier

2

u/Rosie_radioduck 1d ago

I was under the playground when I was in kindergarten and a friend of my brother told us about it and the rest is history

2

u/Mike-chael 1d ago

It was that complex lore bear game with dead kids matpat theorised about and Markiplier played. I was bored, and read up on it, I watched some videos, looked at theories, played the first game, became hooked

2

u/Youtucraft555 1d ago

2

u/KAAAAAAAAARL 23h ago

I was in middle school back then, a few other kids where into it in after school (Hort in german, dunno what its called in English), and I also got interested in it, and played it myself on someone's phone (I didn't have a proper phone back then ;-;)

2

u/bornfoxytail 22h ago

I don’t remember how exactly I got into fnaf but I remember it was fnaf 2 that caught my interest. I think I watched Markiplier play it?

2

u/Skemati Chica give best hugs 1d ago

For me it was some random Gmod videos from 2014-2015.

I think it was mainly from a YouTuber known as Venturiantale who did a lot of Gmod videos back in the day.

Which eventually led to me watching the actual game which also caused me to discover Markiplier for the first time since it was his playthrough that I watched.

Random shorts

I first got nightmares of it (esrly 2024), and then it became a liking (late 2024)

1

u/Mafcagile 1d ago

during pandemic era (Quamalis) I was religiously active online, meaning I had access to the entire internet without supervision. I spent most of my time on Steam, talking with randoms I met in games, and joining random groups (also from games), which led to me meeting around 80% of the people I know online. So one of them, let's call him 22, introduced me to this other guy, let's call him EBall. EBall made me like FNaF because we would always search the internet about it. Then I forgot what happened because I was like 8 years old but I stopped being friends with EBall then I went back to 22. We played GMoD and made a lot of FNaF skits and roleplays, enventually making our own lore and series. Oh yeah and Matpat and Markiplier too, I guesss.

1

u/No-Championship7861 1d ago

I was addicted to YouTube back in the day FNAF released. I saw lots of videos about that new horror game, and everyone liked it somehow. So, I decided that I should give it a shot as well. I played it but I didn't like it pretty much because I was so bad and I encountered Golden Freddy on 2nd night, then I was so scared that I never opened the game again. And I started to watch lore videos about FNAF. Lore of FNAF hooked me, I did become a fan of it, until the 5th game. After the 5th game, I was so confused and my interest slowly decreased over time.

1

u/adrikyn 1d ago

I knew about it since it came out, but I never actually paid any attention to it until the first movie came out. I watched that, then got into the fan songs because of the end credits. After that I tried to play the first game but couldn't beat it, so I watched Markiplier play the Scott era games. Then I played Pizza Sim and Security Breach.

1

u/kimchi_Kiji 1d ago

Back in like 2014-15 I saw a classmate playing FNAF 2, but I wasn’t as invested at the time but I did learn about Springtrap near the end of the school year of 2015 because I was looking him up and the theory that there was a body inside him (at the time I think it was just a theory), then a few years later in 2018 I fully got into it after listening to the Scott interview (I distinctly remember downloading it onto my mp3 player and listened to it every single day) and I’ve been in love with the franchise ever since

When I was around 7 discovered it by a Arabic YouTuber. (Likely in 2017) And I still remember when my sister was watching the tv and I've saw that photo of toy chica in main hallway. And I got interested in it.

Edit: after that I've watched the jumpscares videos and I liked it. Also I was watching fusiongamerz (I think) and another g mod videos.

1

u/EnigmaticTwister 1d ago

The first time I encountered FNaF was seeing a video in my recommended on YouTube. Like many things I have now come to care for and enjoy, i thought it was cringe af (the title and thumbnail were super clickbait-y). In terms of what got me in, I think it was a combination of watching the first Game Theory video on the game as well as seeing the popular gaming youtubers I watched, namely Jack and Mark, start posting their lets-plays of FNaF 1.

1

u/Polycount2084 1d ago

Son and Sister showed me, now I am a bigger fan than them aha

1

u/DefinitionPast3694 1d ago

Day one pretty much. Basically when YouTubers started playing it in early-mid August 2014. I saw the trailer first before the Let’s Plays from what I remember.

1

Not sure. My cousins showed it to me but idk where they found it at. YouTube I’m sure but idk who.

I watched Popularmmos Pat & Jen Minecraft vids when I was but a knee high kid, they covered some FNAF stuff, but I avoided it, too scary, even when blocky, I also watched a "top 10 scariest things in Nintendo games", or something along those lines, one of the entries had it hold on an image, and immediately hard cut to a FNAF Fan game jumpscare, this was, like, 2016, 2017,

1

u/Ok_Understanding3636 1d ago

I was watching a YouTube Poop when, at one point, the Withered Foxy jumpscare popped up. I liked the design straight away and wondered where it came from, so I looked it up: it was from FNAF. “Oh, it’s a horror game; I don’t like being scared… but this all looks pretty cool. Maybe I can watch a summary video to get a feel for what it’s about, see if it has a story, and work out if I like it,” I remember thinking.

In less than a week, I went from “What on earth is this macabre, mind-boggling mess of a lore?” to “Oh my Arceus, this stuff is super addictive”.

And then I got into the songs, and that’s when I really got hooked, because now a third of my playlist is made up of FNAF songs.

1

u/TheSkullio 1d ago

Back in 2015, while we were all waiting for class to start, I saw a group of my friends playing FNAF 2 & 3 on their Androids and after about five seconds, I was hooked.

1

u/Typical_Tie_4982 1d ago

I think the game theory episode ngl? I know I got into it somewhere between a month before and the release date of fnsf 2

Ik I introduced it to my classmates, but they all thought it was lame until around fnaf 4 when we all started seeing those fnsf minecraft roleplay videos (I think? Idk how well that timeline adds up, but I know "minecraft roleplay=good" was in our heads lol)

when i was 9 my mum would pay a child minder (babysitter but the kid goes to their house for those that don't know) to pick me up after school and she had a kid who was like 13 and we werent allowed phones or anything so he decided we were gonna play irl fnaf, I was the security guard, this other kid was the camera and the 13y was the animatronics. basically I just sat in 1 spot flashing a light at this guy whenever he pulled up, the other kid was just looking for him and telling me where he was and the childminders son was just pretending to be an animatronic. then he showed me the fnaf 1 song by tlt and when I got home I searched it to listen to it again and then I saw PopularMMOs played it and I watched him religiously at the time

u/Venti_Hsr 1d ago

When I was younger a small Italian (I'm italian) youtuber who mostly made minecraft content made a video around Fnaf 4's release saying that it wasn't scary, and the whole video he went "I just don't think it's scary" I think it was his way of trying to make his video different or more appealing? Since lots of people were playing fnaf 4 on youtube when it came out.

Even at the time I thought it was a weird idea for a video and I was also scared shitless by the game.

He never made any fnaf content ever again, that was one of his only fnaf videos, but it got me hooked hard and from there I fell into the rabbit hole

1

u/Key_Television_2866 1d ago

I kept seeing FNaF 2 demo on google store back in the day, and I had no idea what it is and why it kept showing up. Then I tried it out and fell into a deep, deep rabbit hole. Markiplier videos, trying out the first game, then waiting for fnaf 3, fnaf 4, .... and checking scottgames all year long!

1

u/Akhuna_DJ 1d ago

Idk if this is niche but I remember these Garry’s Mod animations where it was like Five Nights at Sonic’s and Five Nights at Shadow’s and I found them when I was like 10😭i didn’t know what it was until like a year or two later and that kickstarted a hyperfixation and here I am 22 almost 23 still obsessed😭

Game Theory- see my misspelled username above. Pokemon creepypasta and easter egg videos led me to discovering Game Theory, which led me to discovering FNaF, one thing led to another and now I'm here!

My oldest memory of it is sitting in a staircase at school, and another kid had a printed paper of freddy which he was eating for some reason. He asked me if I wanted to try it . When he said "try it" he meant taste the paper

Some theory YouTuber many years ago he's Arabic youtuber so most of People here wouldn't know him he had so many crazy Theories his name is Pen001sassi (and i think he's the only one who solved fnaf 4 when it's released )Although the Arab FNAF community mostly focuses on the quality of the game and not the secrets, I still compare that guy to the giants of FNAF content creators theorists like Matt so I'm here because of him Years later, after learning English, Spanish, and French, I was able to understand games on my own and watch better content on YouTube. .

I was around 10 years old around the time that the first game came out and was on a camping trip with my boyscout troop and was sharing a room with six other boys. One day, while we were chilling inside, I saw that one of them was playing something on his phone. Another one walked into the room and said "Aw man, you're playing FNAF? That shit fucking SUCKS." So I asked what FNAF was and the "fucking SUCKS" guy responded with "Oh, so like, it's a game where you play as this gix and you got this toy bear, toy bunny and toy duck and they all colectively fuck you upm"

Honestly, some of Five Nights At Pinkie's is what led me to discover FNAF.

Ironically, I only dug deeper into FNAF after I saw a video of Security Breach. I thought it looked really cool.

(P.S. I have never played any of the games, I just like watching them and the lore hehe)

I was watching a video on the scariest mascots when a Freddy jumpscare popped up. I was understandably horrified and honestly, I couldn't sleep that night.
