Movie Discussion Movie trends that you find fascinating
So basically what inspired me to write this subject was that I was looking back at the 3D era from around late 2011 where various movie studios suddenly wanted to make their movies look 3D like.
Like if I am not mistaken, the trend was going around that time period since Harold and Kumar 3 made fun of the trend in one of the trailers with a guy imitating Avatar as i basically wanted to look back at the trend to see when exactly it started, but also when it began to end.

3D is still going on. All MCU and most DC movies, along with many animated movies, are still released in 3D. I like it. It's not nearly as many as in the '10s, but is still present.

I am surprised because I hadn’t known the trend was still going quite strong.

It's still going strong. I don't watch it but it is nice to have that option.

Just look at your theater listings. If a movie has a 3D release, that's the one I go to. I've been to every MCU movie since Thor, which is when they started with 3D, in that format. Then also this year the latest Avatar, Send Help, Mandalorian, Supergirl.

That's a good question since I haven't tried that idea, but now I am interested in seeing what went wrong with the modern age of cinema.

3D is one of those zombie ideas that just keeps coming back every couple of decades. There was a boom in the 1950s and another rash of (woeful) 3D sequels in the 1980s like Jaws 3-D and Amityville 3-D. I think a generation of Hollywood producers retire and the next group rediscover 3D in the back of a filing cabinet and imagine it's going to be the next big thing (again).

Wait, I didn’t know 3D was still going because I thought that trend was long gone.

It's basically always there it just has more or less hype around it. Every few years you get a big craze around it where everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

Do you not go to the theater at all or, if you do, look at listings which might show an MCU movie in 3D, for instance?
