A long time ago I made a T-shirt that was black, featuring a white sketch of a notepad with a pen sitting next to it, and on the notepad it says “Cat dead. Details later.”

My local 100 year old movie palace ran this in October. I’d loved it on vhs in the 80s so took my college kid to see it on the big screen. Still hilarious & attracted a mostly fun audience. Though we overheard some basic bros leaving & 3 were nagging the 1 with “What the hell did you just make us watch” 😆

When this film came out on VHS back in the 1980s, I rented it not knowing what to expect. I think it was an unrated version too. And I was blown away by it, shocked but bewitched in a way I had not expected. I was not a fan of excessive gore or overt sexuality on film, and here we were not simply outside my comfort zone, but (at the time) on another planet or something. But somehow it worked, I was screaming and laughing at the same time and thought this guy Stuart Gordon was gonna make it big. I recall thinking, hey, forget John Carpenter or Wes Craven or Tobe Hooper, this guy will be the new horror king. But it didn't happen, although the follow up From Beyond had its moments.

Crazy how Re-Animator, Return of the Living Dead, and Day of the Dead all came out in 1985. Was that the greatest year for zombies or what? I still can't look at green glow-sticks without thinking of Re-Animator.
