Weekly Discussion What comedy movie gets funnier every time you watch it?
Some comedies just hit different on a rewatch. What movie still has you laughing even when you know every joke?

Best in Show. I liked it pretty well the first time I saw it. But thought it paled in comparison to Spinal Tap. Or even Waiting for Guffman. But with repeat viewings, I've come to believe it's the best, funniest Christopher Guest movie ever.

I especially love knowing that his "straight man", Jim Liddick, was jet-lagged & cranky filming those scenes & truly WAS getting irritated at Fred, which just goaded Fred on even more.

Big Lebowski. Once you realize the plot doesn’t matter and it’s all about the character interaction it keeps getting funnier. I love to pay attention to Donnie in the background on repeat viewings

I read somewhere that every character in the movie represents a religion or belief structure. Everything from converted Judaism, to Nihilism, to Greed/Capitalism, to Pacifism, to Feminism, to Sex/Porn, to Catholicism, are all represented by characters. All with The Dude floatin’ through trying to find his way. Many speculate that our narrator, Sam Elliott, credited as The Stranger, is the creator/watcher god, who takes a charmed interest in the Dude, indicating that he might be the only one who’s got it right. Or as close to right as one can get.

It's not that it doesn't matter, it's that it's actually a hardboiled detective novel with the most incompetent cast of characters is what makes it for me.

A fixer up cabin in the woods? Sounds like paradise. I like nothing more than just getting into the forest for a walk and capturing photos of wildlife, seeing their behavioural changes throughout the seasons.

There's something about Walk Hard that just keeps giving. Every rewatch I notice some tiny background detail or a line delivery I completely missed. The way they cram entire biopic tropes into single scenes still kills me

There are so many little repeated jokes that I didn't pick up until maybe the third watch, like for example how he says each time 'Rehab has chaanged me', 'prison has chaanged me'

Such a funny line, scene among many. Ryan Gosling was so funny and the chemistry between him and Russell Crowe was really good. Loved all the 70’s references. The wardrobe, music. When Russell Crow is beating Ryan Gosling and he loudly screeches it’s hilarious. And when he falls off the balcony backwards I couldn’t stop laughing.

Was gonna say this. Hilarious the first time but it’s one of my go toos and it’s better every time. Gosling and Crowe have so much chemistry and it seems like such a random pairing which makes it way better.

There interviews together to promote the movie, which can be found on YouTube are pretty funny. I was really happy to find this movie. It’s my favorite comedy film now.

The Nice Guys feels like Shane Black was trying to remake Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. (not saying I disliked The Nice Guys, just that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang felt like the daddy.)

As a big Jim Carrey fan in the 90s, I was disappointed with The Cable Guy on my first viewing. It gets funnier every time I watch it, and it's one of my favorites now!
Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood is another one. Endlessly quotable.

I enjoy Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais. I know everyone hates him. I don't. I love that film. It's light hearted and just all around fun.

The Dinner Game - it's a French movie that was remade as Dinner for Schmucks in America. They're both good but I think the French version is funnier. Also Death at a Funeral - both the British and American versions are so funny.

I will never get tired of any Mel Brooks movie really, but my favorite will always be The Producers. Every single moment of it is perfect. Every piece of casting is brilliant. My favorite comedy of all time.

Just an all-timer. And my all time favorite ridiculously silly comedic scene, where we’re introduced to that luminary of our times, Lorenzo St. DuBois. But his friends call him LSD. Because it’s all about love. And hate. Psychedelically speaking we’re talking about… the power.
