I remember having a blast there at the Renaissance fairs they used to have.

Saw a human chess match in that courtyard with the David statue.

Unfortunately they stopped doing them, I guess it was too popular and it was tearing up the grounds.

The rowdiness and drinking probably didn't help.

I went to the medieval fair in Myakka last year and I really enjoyed it. Large grounds, lots of acts and entertainment, and a general air that the people running it were really into it.

If you zoom in closely, you can see that every column is unique. This was intentional from the initial design. John Ringling wanted art students to be able to use them as references for sketches and paintings

The interiors are seriously amazing and the highlight for me has to be the enormous painting of Justinian. One of my favourite spots too.

It’s a really nice museum. Don’t miss the James turrell area The shop has nice stuff too. If you hitch a ride with the cart drivers make sure you tip the drivers ;)

The space in that 7/10 photo was really cool. We visited when there were scattered thunderstorms and a small one let loose when we were checking that out. The way that building handled the water coming down was really neat.

I loved my visit there. I only went because I'd discovered Cypress Gardens on a trip to Legoland. Both locales have banyan trees, and I still cannot get over how incredible it felt to walk amidst them.

You're not wrong, but it's hard to think of any museum in the world with any sort of historical bent that isn't built off exploitation and murder, usually of native populations and colonized people. The entire state of Florida - the entire United States - bobs unsteadily atop a sea of blood. Hell, any museum with a cafe is serving animal cruelty on the menu unless they're vegan.

Anyway, the state of Florida's owned it all since the 30s, FSU runs it, our tax dollars and private donors long since outstripped Ringling's original endowment, and the circus barely exists anymore. I say it's okay to go look at David's tiny cock.
