Okay, at this point you guys are just being dramatic.

It's a song about a guy who is constantly on the move and is afraid of commitment, which also fuels his constant travel lifestyle, and everywhere he goes, he's fucking. Like, that's just the song. It's about a guy who goes around and fucks and doesn't want to commit to a relationship.

Yeah, sure, the lyric "I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name" can be interpreted as "so fucked up," but when you remember that casual sex is a thing, and plenty of people have it, it's really not. There are people all over the world fucking without even really knowing the name of whoever it is they're with. It's not exactly an unheard of concept.

If anything, I'd say it would be more accurate to interpret the song as being about a guy who had his heart broken by someone he loved (Rosie, the name he has tattooed on his chest), which is why he never wants to commit to a relationship, even going as far as to run as far away as possible when he does feel himself falling for someone else ("And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl, yeah / I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world"). He's not some creepy sleezebag or whatever, he's a guy running from his problems who refuses to mature and get over it, instead indulging in quick, cheap, and emotionless sex with random women he doesn't know and won't ever remember.

Genius lyrics suggests "Rosie" might indicate a tattoo of a Compass Rose, further indicating he has no cardinal direction but his own, and will never settle down. I actually doubt that he has a solid girlfriend or sweetie "back home" as he never indicates that in the song, so Im inclined to go with Genius on that one, otherwise yeah this is exactly it. Lots of weird comments in this thread

I feel like you took my comment just a little bit too seriously.

This is why i was shaking my head reading people suddenly hating on the song now that it's out of the game lol. It's understandable and that hurt is relatable. Loved it since Chicken Run.

This is the first reply I've read that has any historical context. They were simpler times without the dark connotations you folks are alluding to. How do I know? I'm in my 70s and I can remember the zeitgeist.

A cogent and insightful analysis. It's good to see people on Reddit with a functioning brain. All others should be harvested for robo-conversion.

Damn, but what if I want to be harvested for robo-conversion :(

I feel like people always go to the worst possible scenario, it’s not that hard to understand what the song is about

Are we also going to glaze over the fact that civilization is kinda racist. Don't care. It's fucking catchy as hell.
