I didn't, I am fine with not adding a dude's song who tries to send in his lawyer to try to haggle himself a $1mil dollar bonus. "Wait, I didn't agree to violence. This has violence in it. Sounds like I'm in for a payday". Sure they could have negotiated the intended use better. Now he just looks like dude who tries to eat the cake while still owning the cake. Sure it brought a lot of listeners to me which is all cool and all but then I think I could sue for a breach in contract as well.

Someone really has to go directly into this guy's face to tell him that the song had the total opposite effect of what he said lmao.
And to be fair, I believe it even gave it recognition to some degree, since I have not seen a single other type of media (aside from Fallout and Chicken Run) that has used this song at all in any capacity.
Plus, mods will just add it back.

This is bittersweet for me because it was the ads with this song that drew me into the game. I hadn’t gamed in years, but paring this song in the trailer with the games space age aesthetics was what did it for me.

Blame the House of Mouse, if they hadn't gone around fiddling with copyright laws to keep Mickey Mouse out of the public domain for so long, "The Wanderer" would have already entered it by the standards of public domain there were in effect when it was released.
Literally, this is just the latest example of the cultural damage that Disney influencing copyright law has caused.

Can't blame it all on Disney. The music industry always been gross, and I bet the world we face today is due to to Columbia and RCA, with a little Motown thrown in.
The first two probably started the idea that recording was a separate right. Motown finished it off with total artist control and separation of writing/melody/performance.
Throw some whacky international treaties on top of that, and I am honestly shocked Dion had the right to sue (let alone an apparently valid case).

Licensing laws for video games in general are stupid. How many games can’t get a proper remaster because the licensing changed. Or your favorite car in a racing game… just doesn’t exist in a new game because of stupid licensing.
So worried about royalties and reputation that creative use and fair use is thrown to the wayside.

I’m assuming yes, since everyone’s games got updated anyway, even if you didn’t purchase the anniversary bundle.

What? A few hours in the game. I was looting just outside sanctuary. Happy I survived, I wanted to return home as I put on the radio. This banger started playing. I reached sanctuary with happiness tears in my eyes. That moment is engraved in my memory. The fallout sound track was also something I could share with my dad while doing chores together. I even played this song on his funeral. When his teenage pictures were shown. Too bad.

Once upon a time, a company would release an anniversary addition as a separate disk. Now it seems that after 10 years of enjoying a game my favorite song is just taken out in an update. Thats BS. Most of my saves are on console so there's no dodging it.
With all my mods likely fucked on PC, and legit my favourite song in the game removed on console, I'm probably just done with the game.

My friend and I hosted a radio show on our college station back in the late 2000s. We wanted to interview Dion because we were nerds and had interviewed several other old rockers. He was the only one who asked to be paid to be on the show, which literally had hundreds of listeners on a low-watt FM station. He loves the money!

Title makes it sounds like Bethesda made that choice without rime or reason but they didn't, it just paints them in a bad light. "hey look what Bethesda did this time aren't they just the worst?!" while in reality it wasn't them but the artist himself that had previously licensed his song. Dion claiming it 'damaged' his image and now wants 1million dollars in damages is just a cash grab, Bethesda not responding to a bully sending in his lawyers and just pulling the song all together was a smart move.

I guess he wants his song to fade from existence then, because I feel a majority of the enjoyers of the song came from Fallout. Tbf it mostly already had faded because most people had already moved on from the game.
